ONLY 11 MORE WAKE-UPS!  And 2day's the 11th.  AN OMEN!!!!

Poor Li'l Roaster!  I know when I have a fever of just 98, 99 or so I'm down for the count.  I can imagine how bad 'Roaster feels.  You poor moms with your sick chillins.  But at least you can stay home...  And take it easy?  (Or is that an oxymoron with sick kids?)

ONLY 11 MORE WAKE-UPS!!!

OT, I just checked lil' roasters temp, he's a at 103.3, how high is too high??? should I be calling urgent care?

Tue, 01/11/2005 - 3:45 PM Permalink
OT

I'd call.  They will tell you how to get the temp down.  Use a cool rag on his neck, wrists an inside his elbow.  Try to keep it from getting any higher.  I've had kids have fevers that high and higher and the cool water helps.  Some recommend putting in a cool tub too, but that just seems drastic.  And give him some tylenol.

Tue, 01/11/2005 - 3:49 PM Permalink

LLady, get him in the tub with cool water. Put ice packs under his arms, behind his neck, and at his groin.  And call urgent care and talk to them about what to do next.

Sounds just like when I had the Hong Kong flu back in...  The late '60s, early '70s.

And 103.3 isn't that high for a little guy.  Maybe his fever is breaking now.  It will spike like that just before it breaks.  It's high, yes, but not unusual.

We have been giving him tylonol about every 4 hours, I'm worried I'm gonna give him too much cuz it says to give every 6-8. I'll try the cool rag first, I don't think he wants to get in the tub yet :)

OT

The lable is being cautious.  Prescription strength is higher than what is stated on the bottle, so don't worry about that.  And remember that a fever is our bodies way of fighting what ails us.  Sometimes it just gets a little carried away.  But the cool cloths do help.  Almost immediately.

Tue, 01/11/2005 - 3:54 PM Permalink
OT

I know.  It always seemed incredibly cruel to put an already feverish child in a tub with cold water!  I guess in drastic situations you would have no choice, but you're not at that point.

Tue, 01/11/2005 - 3:56 PM Permalink

Too high's when you're/they're either delirious or unresponsive.

I was both, off and on.

When they get there, put in tub and get fever down NOW.

Thanks, I didn't want to call the doc and sound like one of those worry wart moms :)

I remember my daughter-in-law calling me when my grandson was just an infant.  He was feverish and she didn't know what to do.  I got there and it was over 105 degrees!  I almost panicked!  But I had her get me a bowl of cold water and a couple of wash cloths and within minutes it went down to 102.

I've been there too, Green.  I can remember being sick when I was just a little girl and seeing bears in the window!

The weird thing is that he's been in really good spirits, Not crying, whining or complainig really. I know if my temp was 103. someone would be listening to me complain!

Worry-wart Mom?  There's no such thing. Mom's worry. Ittiz in their genes.

Tue, 01/11/2005 - 3:59 PM Permalink

Isn't that the truth!  Kids are pretty resilient!  Sometimes I've not felt well and would swear I was feverish, so I take my temp and nothing!  Or just a tenth of a degree or something.

No kidding!  I still worry and my baby is 28!  I won't tell you how old the oldest is.   Let's just say he's older than CM.  ;)

I don't really remember much of it.  I was in Jr. High, I guess about 12, 13, or 14?  Was outta school two weeks.  Had this high, high fever and was going crazy on my folks - talking all weird and stuff.  Doc said to get me in a cool tub, PRONTO, and do the ice pack thighy.

I've never had a/the flu like that since.  Just mild, usual stuff. I keep telling myself that I'm like immune now...  Man, I hope.  At my age getting that sick would definitely NOT be healthy.

If my temp hits 99.5, I'm down for the count.  Can't stay awake, can't get outta bed, etc.

My normal body temp is 96 sumpin', so when I take my temp and ittiz 98 sumpin', I know I'm sick or starting to get sick.

OT, maybe your normal body temps not 98, too.

I think I aged about 20 years.

You'll age much more than that over the years.

My wife was bout to put the kid in the cold water when she received a return call from the doc saying to only do that in extreme situations where it's a quick fix B4 heading to the hospital.  He said it would shock her little system and the rag method was much better and still obtained the same results. Which it did.

Let's just say he's older than CM.

Damn OT - You are much more O than I thought.  ;-)

My kids can get into that where the temps are up and Tylenol just doesn't do the job. Our Doc told me to alternate Tylenol and Advil.  So you are six hours apart on each drug.  Works like a charm!

I'm still trying to find a coffee cup to heat up some water in to take this Theraflu I have sitting here.  I might just get a cup of coffee out of the vending machine and hope the cherry flavor doesn't screw it up too much.

"What is your normalbody temperature? It's probably not 98.6 Â°F, the oft-quoted average that was determined in the nineteenth century. A recent study has reported an average temperature of 98.2 Â°F."

Scientists today know that normalis actually 98.2 plus or minus 0.6, that is to say anything in the range of 97.6° to 98.8° should be considered normal."

Damn dude, you ain't kiddin'!  Yuk

It's like a diet, diet, diet warm cherry pop with crap floating around in it.  I thought I'd use a cup of tea instead of coffee but didn't think that helped at all.  Hopefully the medicine will work.

So if mine is 98.2, which it is, does that make me average?  Or normal?  Or both?  Sounds boring to me.
