1999 Pioneer Press Medallion Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

Allison Wonderland

I guess it's time to point this out again. The clue doesn't say LOOK for an iconoclast. It says BE an iconoclast. Break away from traditional thinking. It can be fun to

look at past hunts for ideas, but there's going to be something new this year and thinking in the old way won't help you.

No kidding, the clues are a little too cryptic. They raise the kitty, and it becomes a game for rocket

scientists. Dingdong Didillydias, whatever. Dillybar? You work at Dairy Queen or something?<

in hte clues they said it was in a park, and according to the city the capitol mall is not a park

OK here is why I think it is Marriam...

Clue 2. Great sliding hill

Clue 3. Numers adorn the door (2000 in big bold numbers over the front door) and the hours are 9-5 and some days 9-4

Clue 4. It has never been hidden there.

Clue 5. Longfellow magnet school borders the park.

Clue 6. Marriam (WEBSTER!) and the Longfellow shcool. Both can be found "in many a tome"

Clue 7. If you look through the line of trees that border I94 you will see the treasure island billbord.

Any questions?

I have to disagree with the Mall theory, the first clue says "A park is the spot..."

What is the "real" definition of an Iconoclast? Isn't it a rebel, or someone who does things out of the ordinary, i.e. a highland(er)?

Newell is running out of gas... Snow there has been sifted and resifted....those in favor of this so called Devil's Den, should have had all day to produce a small item

out of a small area of a small park. As for Ding Dong, I find the guy Hillarious, and I think we've are not sure of his sexual orientation and we should be beyond the

point where GAY is slanderous. Grow up.

Last line first stanza of clue #1....Look only on public ground in St. Paul

First line, 2nd stanza of clue #1....A park is the spot but a gold course is not

Could that be the public land is park like? Not necessarily a named park as such?

Just made a statement that the medallion doesn't have to be hidden in a park. Take it like you want just made a statement.

I checked around the Rec Center at Conway and didn't see any numbers on any of the doors, but its address would at least be close to 459. I only saw the back of

the library but its address would be completely different. I didn't think about Babe Ruth. That could be something. He certainly has been mentioned in many of the

tomes of baseball. You must have been on here a while to recall my Tim Conway comment.

the way they said somewhere a four leads me to think it's not part of the 9 and 5... It's gotta be a ref. to golf or disc golf (discering) there is a disc golf course in

KAPOSIA park that is by LINCOLN ELEM... lincoln fits into the whole iconoclast thing, or man of fame. the address is 357 on 9th, but my huntch is that it's not

there...ideas?

Downtown Dave - I would have agreed with you yesterday regarding the stretch...but after being hit with it this early morning, I can't seem to get it out of my mind as

the #1 likely spot. The stuff lacking in clues this year has been weighing heavy on my mind...so had been thinking of parks without all the park amenities.

Hopefully, the next clue will provide a better fix on a park.

If you want some real advice I would have to say it is probably in Brazil. Think of clue number three, it says "If you see Jesus on a hill, you are probably in Brazil,

and there are some really hot chicks there on the beach and usually they go topless, but I digress, if you want the medallion, search in Rio Dejascallion!"

Can anyone explain why people keep saying Highlanders are iconoclasts? Can a group even be an iconoclast? If I were Scottish I think I'd start to be getting

annoyed.

You know, treasure island, treasure chest....that's pretty good. As for any park on West Side, I think last years Cherokee appearance would keep it out of there....

EVERYBODY, LISTEN.

The Medallion is hidden at the State Capital.

Certainly you can read this statement and ignore it, but if you do so you will regret it a few days' time.

Look back to message #10772 for the evidence.

I would just say this: get out there and look for it.

I have trouble understanding why so many people are on-line instead of actually looking for the treasure.

Feel yourselves fortunate I'm in Ann Arbor, Michigan, else I'd find it myself (since you all are running in circles).

Somewhere in here there's a clue quite clear....

Once you see it. You will know it!

If you think first of trees in a line...

Telling you where to look, and that is tough!! Because EVERY park has some trees that are in a line.

From this a name will appear...

Tresure Island

That could lead you to a valuable sign.

It is the kind of sign that is there for a LONG LONG time and gets updated with what shows they have comming up. Trust me, if you're a vet hunter this will make

sence when you see it.

Sorry, Dingdong. Don't be too sensitive. Just having a little fun. The stress of this medallion hunt has made me

a little nutty.

Westside Will has some good ideas about Merriam... But then again Newell Park looked good. It's been ravaged by hunters... Not many people are there, now...

94 and maybe a 5. Could it be near the KS-95 tower...? 94.5 on your FM dial?<

Allison: just looked up the addresses, Conway Rec is 2090 Conway, library is 2105 Wilson. Be a stretch, but if you look at both you can get a 9 from the rec and a
