2002 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

Terry

Hidden Falls has hills...but the park is mostly flat. Good idea!

Lots of good nooks and crannies down there.

Terry - I don't know about that because the clue says to trek up and down hills...they sure wouldn't want people doing that at mounds...if it was mounds, i think the clue would tell people not to trek the hills...

there's still one more river park. maybe 2.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:40 PM Permalink
Terry

That's what I'm saying...it would be a waste of time.

To hill or not to hill..........that is the question.

wolfpac

I thinks that treking up and down the hills is the waste of time.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:41 PM Permalink
Map Guy

Ares..I'm gonna rule them out.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:42 PM Permalink
Terry

Prospect Park is all about a city lot size big...so I tend to rule that out just by virtue of it's small size.

Unless one of the clues mentions Bing.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:43 PM Permalink
Terry

Then I'd go to Crosby.

OK...I can't get sucked in to these park theories yet...too early. I'll see you all later. Hopefully we'll get some solid info with #3...Later!!

"have no fear" of death? Arlington?

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:45 PM Permalink
ares

actually, the other one would be battle creek but that's something of a stretch from the river.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:45 PM Permalink
Map Guy

Lots of stretching going on.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:46 PM Permalink
Terry

Time will tell if any of this stretching leads to anything constructive.

Where does the river come in???

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:48 PM Permalink
Map Guy

Hunter and I took a walk at HF today and saw TMK scouting around.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:48 PM Permalink
Terry

Following my usual plan of paying attention to what the clues say...and don't say...

There's been no mention of trees, water, or picnics yet.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:49 PM Permalink
Map Guy

But there will be...just wait, TV.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:50 PM Permalink
Terry

I hate waiting! I liked things better when there were two clues every day.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:51 PM Permalink
rivvraft

Just a thought.......Wouldn't that be terrible if someone just out scouting actually found it :(

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:52 PM Permalink
Randahl

Whats the talk of a river park???? WHere oh where does the water come into play???? Am I just Blonde or what??

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:53 PM Permalink
Terry

Banish that thought!

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:53 PM Permalink
ares

it was just a thought, randy, since harriet island was explicitly excluded from the rules. i guess the theory is that the clues will point to it and they don't want us digging on it.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:55 PM Permalink
Map Guy

Randy...I started this theory back at post 9501.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:56 PM Permalink
Terry

Of course the rules also keep us out of Como Zoo so in theory, the clues could lead us back to Como Park and there needed to be explicit direction to stay out of the Zoo area.

Rushmore

Riv - When I was out scoping the capitol last week - I was tempted to look under, on top of, and into things, however, I was afraid I may find the medallion and ruin it for everyone - so I refrained and didn't look into things. Now that the clues are out though, it's free game, but I would HATE it if someone found it this early while out scoping.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:56 PM Permalink
ares

but the zoo's always been explicitly excluded, hasn't it terry?

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:58 PM Permalink
Map Guy

Yes, but TV, the Zoo has never been a "qualified" place before whereas HI has.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:58 PM Permalink
Terry

It has...but why in the rules this year then?

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:58 PM Permalink
Map Guy

Ares..we're on the same wave.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:59 PM Permalink
rivvraft

LAST WEEK...huh, starting real early, glad you didn't find it.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:59 PM Permalink
Randahl

THG...I now see your logic...good spin....

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 1:59 PM Permalink

Just a hunch, Rust...don't grab your shovel yet.

Rushmore

I have an idea!!

"You may knit your brows on this one"

Maybe this is implying that you can see the ONE that is on the top of the first trust center from the park

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 2:01 PM Permalink
Terry

It'll be interesting if they include all those "do not tread" things in next year's rules.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 2:01 PM Permalink
rivvraft

The clue writer is just throwing us off, this hunt has to last, look at all the advertising, CUB. We'll all be scratching our heads, to'in and fro'in all over town.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 2:02 PM Permalink
ares

ter, you're going to explicitly exclude it in the rules because you're going to point to someplace (or someplaces?) with similar characteristics. but you don't want to have hunters digging on h.i., and at the same time you don't want to be sufficiently explicit as to which park its actually in.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 2:03 PM Permalink
ares

rush, you're not the first person here with that idea!

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 2:03 PM Permalink
Rushmore

Dang - here I am, thinking I was all original.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 2:04 PM Permalink
Map Guy

Ter..Ares and I are speculating on the mindset of the clue-writer and anticipating that in the next few clues, the river will be mentioned.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 2:05 PM Permalink

I was just thinking that Rush and Ares are thinking alike

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 2:06 PM Permalink
rivvraft

Hummmmmm.....You may knit your brows on this one, could it be a knitted face with biggg brows inside of an UNO box.........

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 2:06 PM Permalink
Terry

Steve - I know and I tend to agree...and I even understand the golf course thing. Why waste a clue to state that every year....but the zoo? Was there damage there last year?

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 2:07 PM Permalink
ares

and 10 bucks, steve, says that if we hadn't been suggesting h.i. in here, it wouldn't have been mentioned in the rules on the last minute!

Can someone look up the dictionary meaning of Knit & Brows? Well, we know lemans terms but there may be something in it.
