Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.
Hidden falls is on my list but it has moved down. It doesn't seem to me there's any areas there that are clearly away from the woods and down a hill. As for Hillcrest, I doubt it. It seems anything related to Hillcrest is a matter of deriving the name itself from the clues. I don't think these clues are hinting at a park name, especially a small one. I think they are more likely describing aspects of the park or things that can be seen from nearby.
I've been too busy at work trying to wrap things up to keep up with the cooler, especially at this pace. And last night I was out filming for most of the evening. I made a few posts to my club, at least I can keep up with.
I do remember seeing something in the Guide about something sponsored by the Lion's club, don't recall offhand though.
The Pioneer Press and Cub Foods will host three special events for participants in the Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt who gather at the newspaper’s downtown St. Paul headquarters to await publication of clues:
“Vulcan Night†– Saturday, Jan. 26: The Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt heats up with a visit from the Winter Carnival Vulcans. The hunt’s presenting sponsor – Cub Foods – and Hormel, also a Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt sponsor, will participate. KOOL 108 and the station’s KOOL KAT mascot will help host the event and prize drawings.
“Tropical Night†– Sunday, Jan. 27: Colorful leis and Hawaiian shirts will brighten the night in time for an appearance by the Winter Carnival Royal Family. The WLOL party van will pull up to help host the event and prize giveaways.
“Movie Night†– Tuesday, Jan. 29: The Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt goes Hollywood with Marcus Theatres and K102. Treasure hunters can watch movie trailers, munch popcorn and win theater tickets, posters and other prizes. K102 will sponsor an appearance by the Rodeo Renegades danceline and a drawing for rodeo tickets.
Time: All events will be held from 11 p.m. until midnight. Events will take place, as scheduled, unless the medallion has been found. Call the Treasure Hunt Hot Line for the current status of the hunt at (651) 228-5547.
I think that the Hunter's pride refers to the Treasure Hunter's Guide. My guess is that a hole has been cut in a guide and the med stuck inside it. Who'd a known?
Allison, because between me and Green we have dug up those parks every year and it's just not there! I even checked back in August and it still wasn't there!
Either one of those parks will lose a member of the crew due to coronary failure!
Hi all, I am available tomorrow afternoon to dig, but since I just got home from work after being there at 7:30am, I will probably not go to the Press tonight.
My opinion is that the person hiding it, if they even knew about the race back when they wrote the clues wouldn't necessarily plan around such a thing. After all, they put it at Como last year and there was a ton of Winter Carnival activity.
Yes Regman...only because the other zones are too close to the events that are taking place there this year. FYI...the ski race was there last year too.
Reg's remember the rules are only what the PP posts and they can hide it anywhere without rhyme(well we know that) or reason.Just because they haven't done it before doesn't mean they won't!

I could see it being Phalen in the sense that it has lots of hills, but most I believe are on the Golf course. So you'd really be killing time checking all those out when you could just use your brain and know it's not on the golf course and you should just check near the one or two hills that are actually in the park.
We have been in the right park as early as the 4th clue - and in the wrong park clear up till it was found somewhere else. We've also been in the right park just about alone wondering why we were just about the only ones there.
Its kinda funny, every past year I see people diggin up highland golf course and watertower when it is never even at that park. They dont know the rules or clues
Otay. I'll get bock to you! THANKS!!!

Scribie, you know me....sooner or later. Diversification, baby.
Will do.....THX says to tell you I may have to have that boil removed about that time.....LOL!
The Medallion will NOT be found in BC!!!
I have no nytroclycerine!
Past experance has it that they wouldnt give the park away w/ one word on the 3rd clue
Allison, I agree. It's too early for a park name. But I'm going to feel so smart if it's Hillcrest! ;-)

Won't be in Linwood either Green....for the same reason!

Glad sumbuddy got that, Scribe! LOL!!!
Wasn't the coco and mocca thing last year like clue 8
Why would it not be in BC or Linwood?
Trophy.
You'd like that wouldn't you Steve?LOL!
It was in Linwood '69
Allison, I prefer zone 3 instead of zone 1.

Indian Mounds Park

Cherokee Regional Park
more goodies hiding in the parks
zone 3 of BC?
AW, There's a big international cross-country ski meet at BC. Thoughts are there will be too much traffic already with that.
Allison, because between me and Green we have dug up those parks every year and it's just not there! I even checked back in August and it still wasn't there!
Either one of those parks will lose a member of the crew due to coronary failure!
Of course, Scribie..in fact when we know what park its in, I'm gonna hide a few books for fun.
Some parks with notable hills and woods:
May not be a perfect list, but it was the best I could gather from the Guide.
See Reg's.....I was born in 69...missed it then too!
Good thinking, I think it may be at a smaller park. It was at como last year, and little parks often follow big ones.
I was born in 86

How much of the park does this meet use. What MHG zone?
I would like it to be back at Como...nice and close to the Guide.
Lee,you have mail!
Reg's my daughter was born 87! You could be my kid!LOL!
Steve,I heard that,if I'd known that I wouldn't have given you all my money!LOL!
Reg..the course is south of the parking lot.
Scribie..who says you'll be able to find them?
I agree, Scribe. As far as big parks go, what about Phalen. Big, lots of parking, and it hasn't been there for a long time
evening regs.
Don't rule out Phalen or any of the bigs.

I'm just saying that phalen may be a possibility. I am not jumping to a conclusion yet.
Back at ya, Scribe

I wouldn't rule out anything yet but a park outside the city limits, the Como Zoo and Harriet Island. Everything else is fair game.
I jumped towards Hidden Falls pretty early last year. Bad mistake
Phalen might also make sense if far away from the woods was really talking about the golf course where people use "irons" and "woods".
We have been in the right park as early as the 4th clue - and in the wrong park clear up till it was found somewhere else. We've also been in the right park just about alone wondering why we were just about the only ones there.
Weird game this hunt!

Wow, Allison! That's some noodling!
