I had some of those same thought marley. It seems to eliminate too many parks too easy. And the use of the word "near" is so vague.
I didn't necesarily interpret as you had to be able to see the dome from a park. But you could see the dome clearly, and the hiding spot is near to where you can see it. An example but a stretch is you can see the dome from the top of the historic highland park water tower, and near by is higholand park. or something like that.
BTW, the posts about the asparagus, and about medallionating, have me LMAO. Remember the year bananas were...ummm...prominent...in the postings? Well, I read on CNN yesterday that bananas may be extinct in 10 years, cuz they don't have sex. How ironic is THAT???
I actually saw someone snooping around Cass Gilbert and whatever that park is out in front of Washington. Is that Rice and Lawson? Probably is. I was not the only one at Highland doing a dome check either.
Joe Medallion was an obnoxious pest from the 1998 hunt. He would type one and two letter/number posts to get to a post number ending in 0 or 00 or 000. Those became known as Joes. Now folks have their own special ones in addition to those 0, 00, 000. Some might be birthdates, lucky numbers, etc.
I don't know what to think. I definetely never thought they were going to give so much away after just two clues. The conventional noodling of the second clue would be that you need to see the actual capital dome. I think that might eliminate too many parks too early. If another park makes sence, and can be "bent around" the 1st two clues, I will not eliminate it.
Treasure Hunting Rule #3- Never make assumptions about the cleverness of the cluewriter. If it seems like it eliminates too many parks, well maybe it does.
Battle Creek-- you can see the Capitol from the lower parts entrance. Indian Mounds-- duh like rr said! Harriet-- just the gold tip at the end almost in lilydale Cherokee-- yep  little parks kellogg--yep (through the skyway, not a clear view) prospect--yep mlk--yep central--yep dunning--yep
you cant see the dome from--- merriam--"unless you climb A tree" boyd--nope not me prospect Heights--nope highland--nope
But I am thinking that clue means more than just be able to see the "Capitol Dome"! That seems way to easy!
It's wrapped in a pioneer press paper! (only the Capitol part of the paper, then in clay/grass/ect...)
The 2nd and 4th stanza both start with the same letter, so far it's T.A.. The only park i can find with those letter at the beginning is Taylor Park, anyone have info on this park??
Can the dome be seen from the PP building? In the writer's office? ("Standing here") I don't think it can be seen from the entrance, because of the skyways (not last night in the dark, for sure), but possibly from the upper floors. The point being that if clue 2, lines 1+2 (and clue 1, among us) gave you the reference point at the PP, peeking nearby, the opposite direction down Cedar is Kellogg Park.
Very very true AW, I am extremely skeptical of this first clue. I liked MK's noodle that 'our dome' may be the state capital dome on the actual paper. might be able to see a paper box from the park.
I don't know if it's strictly my website, but rather that the Cooler Crew in general last year complained pretty loudly about the results of the hunt last year. So they might be referring to how the "Crueler Crew" stung them, but this year they're going to try harder perhaps.
Now last year, if someone had just gotten luck and had happened to find it early, that would have been one thing. But with the way it was hidden (and I use the term loosely) it was impossible for the the hunt to go past clue 6 or 7. By Clue 8, there wouldn't have even been any snow on top of it.
the same kids I used as a resource when they were cub scouts are now boy scouts... shoulder to shoulder search efforts. The downfall is i can't bribe them with a few cookies and cocoa anymore..
Suppose 'standing here' means the PP. Then the broadest interpretation of 'nearby' would be that it is not parked in the outer stretches of Ramsey County.
Eags!!! That's super!!!

I love it!

I can hardly wait for others to slog to that. Great work, Eags. You've always been good with words.
hey guys! I'm so excited to get started. good luck to everyone!
Glad I dusted off my pencil.

I'm NOT making that up!
I think there are still a few of those stuffed bananas around somewhere.
As I recall Eags, they probably are in a box you haven't unpacked yet.
Capitol is correctly Capitalized.
Hey DD! People in any of those downtown parks searching yet?
I always like to say that anyone that hunts is a member of the crew but maybe don't know it - yet.
Not yet, that I can tell. On tonights agends is to see if I can see the Capitol from any of my nearby park units. I'll report back!
I actually saw someone snooping around Cass Gilbert and whatever that park is out in front of Washington. Is that Rice and Lawson? Probably is. I was not the only one at Highland doing a dome check either.
joe - linwoods out
saw several peeps in harriet /on harriet during my drive home tonight!!
Oh yeah. Forgot to mention that earlier.
Hey! I was at Cass Gilbert. I didn't see you.

See you tonight??
rr
Must have missed each other, lee.
Foxdeluxe - the reference to the bursting into flames joe was the post number ended in 666.

"What is a "JOE"?" 1/8/03 10:28am
OR it could mean a couple miles. The word 'near' can be so vague.
That was quite the poem Eags, but where was the asparagus?
Allison - I think the asparagus was in a confessional. Read between the lines!

I just ate the best supper! Real comfort food..turkey, green beens and sweed potatoes. I'm ready to hunt.
Very very true AW, I am extremely skeptical of this first clue. I liked MK's noodle that 'our dome' may be the state capital dome on the actual paper. might be able to see a paper box from the park.
On my drive today I seen people looking at almost every park!!
Wow alot of people out on the second clue. I hope it was because of the holiday!
IM,BC,HI,prospect,mlk,central village, Cherokee,kellogg!
I like the peek mention, considering the telescope mounted at smith and the entrance into cherokee..
