I woke up this morning craving manacotti after I saw Tims plate last night. I had to have some, so I went down to Yarussos to get some. I planned on getting a T-shirt to give away at the rehash also. They ended up donating a bunch of them for door prizes!!!!
one of the highlights from this hunt was the 11th clue, at night. I got there just as the clue was coming out and had to stop and watch the movement of all the lights below in the lower part of the park. I have never seen a night hunt with such an overlooking view. Trent would have loved that scene. It was like a dance of a thousand fire flies.
If we ever have a 12th clue in a valley again or below an overloking hill, some of you film buffs gotta film it.
WOW! I cannot believe it was RIGHT THERE!!! We were all over it that night. Instead of spotting it, we pushed it into the creek? How the hell?!!! Next year, I will be back with better tools and better lighting (I'm open to suggestions.) I cannot continue to be THIS close year after year!
We were at the bottom when the clue came out that night-- right by the spring. It was surreal-- all these little tiny lights started swarming right towards us. I will never forget it.
Ry had an interesting idea we wanted to share with you guys... from reading the PP article from the CW, he became curious as to WHEN the medallion would have been hidden. It mentioned that it snowed between the time it was hidden and when the hunt started. We looked at this website: http://www.uppermw.com/weather/archive.cfm
and it appears that it probably would have been hidden about a week before the first clue came out. The clue came out on the 17th. There were "traces" of snow that day and the day before and a third of an inch on the 13th and 14th (I don't know how a third of an inch differs from a "trace", to me that is the same). It snowed 4.7 inches on the 12th so we think it must have been hidden before then. Not that this info helps us at all, we were just curious...
Did anyone see the medallion, that tiny quarter like sticker could not have been the size of the medallion??... That would be so much smaller than the others...
Both Mad-dachsund and I had posted a couple of rants on the PP boards about poor digging techniques we witnessed (by the way MD your description of how the snow should look-dirty sugar- was spot on) and afterwards 2 different people actually admitted they might have been the ones who accidentally chucked it in the stream.
Then one actually got pissed and was defending the way he digs-saying "well your way didn't work for you either" ......... uuuuhhh my way didn't toss the medallion into the creek to be potentially lost forever. :eyeroll: tards!
Not sure if this is real or BS..... kinda funny either way
This is only my second year participating in this great social event called the medallion hunt. My grandson got me involved last year when I tried helping interpret the clues. I have to admit though I usually dont get many of them right. Up until this year I had never heard about the legend of the Green Donut stealing critter from 2004 Phalen. But then I read a number of posts and the Puck Planters confession about "that year in Phalen" and I assume he must have been referring to the Green Donut caper.
I live near the Gladstone Nature Area in Maplewood. I am an avid photographer, especially of nature. I often go for walks in Gladstone and the Vento/Gateway trails taking pictures of birds and the various wildlife I see. One late afternoon several years ago I spotted a critter running across Frost Ave with its face covered in Green icing. It was a raccoon. It stopped and turned its head towards me. Thats when I snapped the picture. As quick as I snapped the picture, it scampered into the weeds and was gone. At the time I thought it was pretty amusing seeing a green-faced raccoon carrying something in its mouth. I just assumed he had gotten into someones garbage and left over birthday cake. But now you all have got this old codger wondering about the 2004 Phalen thing. I will see if there is a way I can get a copy of it posted here or I'll send it to the PP and see if they can post it for me (I'm just not as computer savy like the rest of y'all).
The worst part is....I was there until 1:30 when it was announced...so I spent four times as much time looking for the medallion AFTER it was found than they did looking for the medallion the entire hunt! That hurts. :frown:
1. If you sink up to your hip in the mud, you will not find your boot or your dignity for a long time.
2. All treasure hunters do not do a thorough job..it's as if they expect the puck to be the size of an ammo can.
3. I used to hunt alone..now I have way more friends than I had Root Beer Schnapps.
4. There are other ways to determine what time it is--but ask first!
5. I must remember to watch the language when others are nearby..."How much does a good Hoe go for these days?" just isn't as family friendly as you think.
6. It doesn't matter how many hours/days I spend in the park....I can't find that thing.
7. A hand warmer duct-taped to the battery pack of the headlamp keeps the batteries warm and the lights bright.
8. Doing a prat-fall onto your back in the watery creek will not get you the $10,000, but the memory of the sight will entertain hunters for years to come.
9. If I ever find, I will alert someone to spread the word as I leave the park, rather than wait for hours.
10. It's very lonely being in the park at 3 a.m., but you have your choice of trees to search.
11. The ratio of dirty underwear clumps to dirty underwear clumps hiding the medallion just isn't worth it.
12. It's great to hunt with friends. I spent almost as much time hunting FOR friends...
13. I'm already looking forward to next year, which is waaaay different than last year.
14. And finally, if head to the biggest tree in the forest to go to the bathroom, make sure there isn't an old lady quietly busting clumps on the back side of the tree!
2002 - Merriam Park, next to second base. It was a short hunt, and the first one I remember actively participating in.
2003 - Como, Wooded area in a block of ice. The hunt went to 12
2004 - Phalen, Wooded area (mosh pit) in a donut (Cluewriter finally admits this year that hiding medallions in edible objects is a bad idea), also went to 12
2005 - Crosby, Cluewriter decides to find a huge park with a ton of woods, picks a big tree and hides the medallion there, impressively it was found on the 10th clue.
2006 - Battle Creek, Near some pine trees, found on the 6th clue. Cluewriter probably assumes this is because they didn't find a large enough patch of woods to use.
2007 - Hidden Falls, Hidden in a nice big patch of trees, although amazingly found in 3 clues, I'm sure the cluewriter kept notes to make sure that doesn't happen again, heh.
2007 part 2 - Central park, Near a tree, but this time it lasted longer
2008 - Indian Mounds, back to a large wooded area again, this time with lots of bluffs and hills and fun things to fall down. Went to 11.
2009 - Swede Hollow, By a tree, but cluewriter learns their lesson about having it too close to water.
Yup.. lots of trees since Merriam. Actually, it seems since Merriam, they haven't really used an interesting hiding spot, just any patch of woods they can find.

I didn't want to even think of going down in the hollow as the view was so fun to watch.
ok this is getting old :frown: :frown:
 :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:
Don't skip pages 6-12
Was the medallion smaller than this covering? If so, they made the new one smaller...

Where is the next clue
Oh silly me, I'm 364 days early

1) go out to the bar every night before AND after the clue
2) don't step foot in a park until clue 10
3) it's by a tree
--- There's nothing like the backwash of 20-30 strangers when you get the last swig of the Rootbeer Schnapps.
--- Marking your territory apparently does not mean much to humans.
-- Being a good clump buster gets you compliments - but not the medallion.
I read this wrong thought posen said Hiding dirty clumps to find dirty clumps..
