Jake showed her a pic of the med that he had and asked if it was what they found. She said yes. That tells me it was the normal size.

Thanks, I was wondering with that covering.. I guess they just didn't cover the whole medallion. Weird.

Question for those that take the time to read the rules...Pike Island, on Fort Snelling State Park, is in Ramsey County....is that off limits for the hunt? My wife, the spokesperson for the State Parks, was wondering...

KC0GRN

Technically, Pike Island is in Ramsey County (Though I'm not really sure why anyway), though I would assume they wouldn't hide the medallion there for a few reasons. One, anyone hunting would need a permit to park there, Two, anyone not wanting to pay would be risking their safety trying to cross the mississippi, Three, there are plenty of areas to hide the medallion that don't have these logistical problems.

Terry

Anything in the county would be fair game, but I don't see the PP hiding the puck where one would have to pay an entrance fee like one has to do in the state park system.

The next question in my mind are state parks actually public parks? Aren't they owned and managed by the state? Or are they just managed?

If your concerned about backwash... you need a stronger drink!

(there isn't as much backwash in the end of the bottle as you'd think anyway)

There should be an 8 term cluewriter limit.

Then what was in her hand?

Is she the "big hands" referred to in the Violent Femmes song??? Cuz there is no way that little thing in the picture was the size of Jakes med, or the one preceding or the one after.

Ares, I am so impressed with how coolercrew.com is looking and operating.

Thank you for all your work and efforts on the behalf of the Crew.

It amazes me that this all started with a small bunch of folks wanting to meet face-to-face after the 1998 hunt...and look what it's become.

Thank goodness, ares, you took on the project when we got that domain released. You have done a fabulous job!

Thank you!

The thing in her hands is NOT the med. It's what was stuck on the med. And in the pic you can see it's curled up so it looks a little smaller, and it probly is a little smaller than the med.

awww shucks.

now that the hunt is over i have to renew the domain again (first time in 7 years) come the 3rd of march, and i intend to move the registration over to where i've got my other domains, probably this week sometime. ($8.99 a year is a lot cheaper than $35 a year) while that happens, the site may be inaccessible for a day as the dns records get updated.

then again, it may not either. depends on how the registrar works it.

Unless something changes, this is the plan for the Mock Hunt...

Here we are with the Medallion hunt behind us. No longer is there a Bock hunt coming up (Medallion and bOCK = MOCK in case you weren't aware). Still this can hardly be considered the inbetween period any more as the Mock Hunt has developed a tradition of its own with this being the 10th year that I have had one. This year we'll be starting on Sunday, March 1st.

The Mock Hunt is patterned after the Winter Carnival Treasure Hunt and is very similar with just a few exceptions. For one, it will be in a park in St. Paul. Secondly, the clues are released at 7pm. Third, the prize is a lot smaller and will be given to the person who finds it, no matter how long it takes. Otherwise, as expected, there will be 12 clues, released once a day. You're looking for a medallion the same size as the one used by the Pioneer Press. It won't be hidden on private property, out on a body of ice or water, on the side of a cliff, on top of a building, inside of anything you need to break to look into, or anywhere else that would cause a reasonable person to ask if they should really be looking there. Nor will it be found in any of the places forbidden in the Winter Carnival hunt.

As for the prize, it will be determined by how many hunters we have. If you wish to be a registered hunter, it will cost $10 and if you find it, you will get all the money that has been collected which typically has been between $200 and $500. If you wish, you can also hunt for free as an unregistered hunter and if you find it in that case, you get $100 and the rest of the money will go towards another hunt's prize. You have until the release of the 4th clue to register. You can register by sending me a check (email me for an address to send it to), by PayPal (use this email address), or you can give it to me in person if you go to our kickoff event at Fabulous Fern's on Sunday March 1st starting at 6pm.

The park has been chosen and the clues are being written. I'm anticipating this hunt will be an interesting one. I'm not going to hide it *too* well this year so the prize may indeed go to the first person to figure out the clues properly.

Off topic but Hudson is hosting it's Hot Air Affair this weekend. I need volunteers that would be interested in crewing. You can learn more here...

http://www.meetup.com/The-TC-Singles-In-The-City-Meetup/calendar/9670818/

A special geocaching event will, also, be going on. I plan to hunt Saturday late morning/early afternoon.

Or, if you don't want to volunteer, in conjunction with the Hot Air Affair, I will be hosting a board game party at my condo Saturday at 8pm. Since I wasn't able to go to the Rehash Bash (in ALL of the past years) due to work, I invite one and all to stop by.

I wonder if, while y'all are up in the air, you would keep an eye out for this little lost dog who has been seen around the Hudson/Roberts/Houlton WI and Afton/Stillwater MN areas?

His story is a sad one, as he was lost while traveling and has been out on his own for over two months now.

He was last sighted near 110th and 80th (same as Badlands Road) near Roberts on January 23, but frequent sightings have been around the railroad trestle in Hudson, and along the riverbanks of the St. Croix between Afton/Hudson and Stillwater/Houlton.

If any of you see him, or even *think* you see him, please call me at 651-356-5470 and I will get someone out there to search the area.

If you would like some flyers to distribute to the club, with photos and phone numbers, please PM me your e-mail and I will get one to you that you can print off.

If that is not possible, I could arrange for a searcher to meet up with you at your starting point and give you flyers - just let me know how many you would like.

Thanks so much!

The dog's name is Hawkeye. He is a 3-year-old blue merle Australian shepherd.

Who is doing the geocaching hides? I asked Da Bloodound (Gary Glancy) and he said no one asked him to do so this year.

But, more importantly, will the cache sbe published Friday or do oyu need to pick up the coordinates somewhere?

Somehow it just begs a scientific research of raccoon scavenging techniques.

Maybe if I can find the same sized donut with a mock medallion in it, hide it exactly where the cluewriter did and track it's movement over a week or two...
