The last several years were light in snowfall, and PP served us the medallion in fairly large parks. After the early find at Hidden Falls, the plan "b" medallion was readied for Central Park in Roseville. Perhaps they prepare a Large and Small park simultaniously, depending on snowfall and weather conditions, and if so- my guess(and God knows that's all it is) is that this might be a good year to try a smaller newer park!
I'll accept "good as any" as an affirmation of my thought process!
sounds as good as any! I hope your right. I'd like to see it at a small unknown park, like Taylor, or some where similar.
However crosby had a lot of snow the night before the hunt, phalen had a blizzard during the hunt, Cono 2001 had a lot of snow, and I'm not sure of the other years off hand.
I was thinking at work last night that if theres a lot of snow it might just get tossed out into the middle of an open field in a small park naked. (And yes, I'm talking about the medallion)
Oh my the fever is hitting when the first thing I do (after making a pot of coffee) is logging on.
THe puck has never been in White Bear Lake and that is Ramsey County. I keep on hoping one year he does that. I always keep an eye on Podvin Park as that park is named after Brass Monkeys Great Grandfather. It also isn't listed as a Park and it's as large as Newell. Oh well ... as you can see the fever has hit me!!!!!!!!!!
Podvin is completely wide open, I know that because that's where we ran the doorknocks from on the campaign I worked on this past fall. If it's in White Bear, I'd love to see it at Lakewood Hills, where the disc golf course is. That would be a great hunt.
I would love to see them open the hunt up to more than just Ramsey County. IMHO WSP, SSP, Lillydale and Mendota are more in tune with Saint Paul than Arden Hills and Shoreview.
I also wish we had a clear ruling on which cities WON'T have it. There is always the debate about Maplewood and whether or not they will allow it. It seemed like Roseville loved the fact it was at Central. They are very pro parks and encourage people to use their public space.
I think the fever is hitting me a little earlier this year too. Not sure why. I usually don't until the clues start coming out.
The last week it has been all about prep work. Cleaning out the folder where I keep all my maps, books, notes, etc. Yesterday I cleaned out my favorites file and added some new ones. Spent a good deal of time checking out maps of parks outside of St. Paul. Again not sure why... my spidey sense in tingling.
My husband wanted to know if it was OK to tell my co-workers that I've officially become obsessed. :pbpt:
Hello everyone!, this is my first post this year and boy I cant wait for the hunt to begin. Intresting posts already, I like the small park idea, Although I remember newell and merriam few years back and how I walked over that thing a million times and didnt find it, dam. Well looking forward to another year and hopefully this is the year for someone from the cooler crew, and not those who stumble across it after looking for ten minutes on there first day out! had to vent for a second, k all done now when is the first date of the hunt?
I hope everyone gets their howdy-dos out of the way before the hunt begins - I'm having a hard time keeping up with reading messages in other parts of the Cooler pages. Is THIS going to be the main traffic stop once the hunt begins, or are there going to be sub-folders for clues and such?
I wonder if it is any better/different than the free info that is out there online at Google, etc. Difference being you could put the software on your laptop and take it with you!
Not sure how much hunting I'll get to do this year.
My plans are changing a bit - not as easy to get someone to watch my house this time around - and a few other little glitches might mean I will come into town to teach the workshop, do a family event, then head home.
I keep thinking I'll be moved back by the next medallion hunt, but don't know what to think now.
Remember when the smoke stack tower was taken down this summer??
When I saw that on the news I thought to myself the clue writer might
make a reference to that. hmmmmm
I'm all nervous, shaking, and by myself...

P.S. - I like your avatar

I have this strange feeling that won't happen though. :pbpt:
I dont need guns pointed at me, because im carrying "weapons"....

There are also some nice parks in Little Canada.

First clue should be out the morning of the 17th

It's been a while, so hopefully I remember everything---
Open Google Earth while online and set the cache real big (Tools -> Options -> cache) based on the amount of memory you have.
Do a low level (zoomed way in) flyover of the areas you are interested in.
Now, you can view those areas off-line in high detail.
I like the idea of him using smokestack and Palin (Phalen) in clues.
<edit> ah yeah- the one bfg said
