A harbor of trees and vegetation where nothing seen is unnatural.

Hard to figure that in a city park.

All wee see comes naturally...

In this 'harbor' of impressive 'arbor'

Harbor meaning A place of shelter; a refuge.

Arbor referring to the mass qty of flora...

And voila! You have a conservatory!

Everything in it comes naturally

OK...

OMG, now I put 2 + 2 together and get 5!

Conservatory is off limits. The flora inside is, for the most part, not naturally occurring in this climate.

The frog pond is out.

I'm with you on that one, zephy. Approach and have no fear? The zoo.

it was last year in mounds

Sure, sure... but as a reference point...

But they could just be referencing the conservatory as a clue. Not that it's physically inside.

The conservatory itself is man-made though. Kind of an oxy-moron clue if that's what it's referring to. Also with Lake Como being man-made.

So, what do we have thus far? A park with a dog park, a golf course, an impressive woods, and a natural water source nearby? Umm, does that even narrow it down that much?

Harbor could refer to shelter. Arbor could refer to a gazebo (similar to a shelter).

Or it could be the river... moving water doesn't freeze as well as still water, maybe somewhere there is both... also fits with harbor

Having no fear may be like a cliff, or a thin ice sign....

----------------------------

Just popped in my head - for those of you thinking mounds... there is the Archery sign in the back woods, since you can't shoot there anymore, it is now safe.

There's not too many places where you can stand without seeing anything man made. That appears to be the "gist" of Clue 3.

Battle Creek (Maplewood) has a LOT of that kind of settings - and many impressive, LARGE trees. If you want to spin the safety angle - Ramsey County Workhouse (lockup) makes up the 'missing' southeast corner of Battle Creek park.

But when have the clues ever been dead give-aways? Or made perfect logical sense, as deciphered?

Long Lake is 7 miles from my house

I was there Sunday

BC is still #1 for me.

I've never seen a gazebo that grew up naturally.

But a shelter of trees and other vegetation.

Woods. Gotta be some woods.

Dang. I'm tired of hunting woods.

NEVAH!

hehe

very rarely, I should say.

Yup. You have to figure out which parts of the clue make sense, because often times even with the explanations they're lame.

And, the thing about BC is that it is a Boxmeyer park. I don't think any of his other parks fit this clue. Sigh.

Harbor of impressive arbor... Arbor as in trees...Streets that are named for trees that lead to a park (aka a safe place)? Just noodling...
Mon, 01/19/2009 - 9:47 PM Permalink

I'm not going there until I have to. It is just too darn far away for me.

Yeah, I'm reading way to into this clue. Making something out of nothing.

Is there an area near a park that has a lot of streets named after trees?
Mon, 01/19/2009 - 9:48 PM Permalink

The Harbors at Harriet are called Upper and Lower and are run by the yacht club. I wish I could find a body of water, or part of a body of water named after a tree.

We were scouting around Marydale today. We weren't the only ones out there....

But there isn't a place in that park you wouldn't see something unnatural. Fishing pier, playground, picnic tables, asphalt walkways, the railroad, streets, houses, apartment buildings.

I think we're down to large parks with some woods that once inside, you don't see other unnatural things.

yeah I wasn't expecting it so early... I WAS expecting a Palin clue though if it were to be at Phalen, but I do think they could've had it be clue 5 or 6
Mon, 01/19/2009 - 9:51 PM Permalink
Terry

I won't be at BC until I have to be there.
Mon, 01/19/2009 - 9:52 PM Permalink

Dellwood is a street that runs into BC, both to the Maplewood side and the St.Paul side.

Same here.

Unless something really smacks me upside the head pointing to an exact area.
Mon, 01/19/2009 - 9:53 PM Permalink

I can't believe it's in the woods again.

Maybe its not as deep in the woods as we're thinking.

Harbor of impressive arbor. Boxwood hedge.
Mon, 01/19/2009 - 9:53 PM Permalink
zephyrus

Really, you could be in the woods at BC, Mounds, CoNo,Keller, Mosh pit at Phalen, and not see anything man-made if you want it to mean that literally.

There has to be others... Not that you can't see it from the park, but form where the puck is hiding.
Mon, 01/19/2009 - 9:54 PM Permalink
Terry

That would fit.

So where is there a boxwood hedge in a park?
Mon, 01/19/2009 - 9:54 PM Permalink

Does Map Guy map flora?
Mon, 01/19/2009 - 9:55 PM Permalink
Terry

Without leaves on the decidious trees, it would be hard not to see something less than natural unless you're really down a hole somewhere.
Mon, 01/19/2009 - 9:55 PM Permalink

not much
