No, she grew up here in South St. Paul, but moved out of state to work right out of college in 1953. She was named after my Grandmother Wisniewski, wife of the man in the old picture I posted the other day.
When I get down there this afternoon - what section of the park would you say has been the least picked over so far? I was surprised how little of that center bluff had been touched on top by Saturday. I'm sure its been thoroughly molested by now.
I know it looks like a W but I'm pretty sure it's an N .... there was some chunks of concrete missing in the center of it. We pondered for awhile which one. The y is just the last letter for Railway vs Railroad.
Eilene Weida Park: From THG: A perennial favorite! Located in "Railroad Island" on the east side. Named after an activist.
Go ahead and dig in this park because everybody has and it just seems to be a ritual that must take place. There isn't much to it.
It looks small on the google map; may be worth a look-see before eating at the Statue Of Liberty restaurant! Any one have info on this gal Eilene Weida. That is a german-type name as my dad is German and he has a very similiar name
Not sure where the McAlpine's house is. I lived on Summit ave north end by tennis courts/baseball fields. Mr. Grover lived next door; he taught English at SSP. I learned so much about English from him, it has helped with my writing to this day (Cooler Crew posts the exception). Neighbors: Sobaski, Stevens, Bell
They used to have rules spelled out about not digging up high, near power lines, on water, etc. I can't find any rules like that now. It also specified the medallion would be found on the ground. I wonder if it still has to be on the ground?
Mr. Gower, yes. I worked on the paper and he was our advisor. We were his 6th hour class and basically wrote articles and worked on the paper during that hour. Great class.
Gower's lived at the start of the circle. My daughter's live immediately across the street from the tennis court on the ravine side. Between Woosley's and Robertson's, if you remember them. The Schumacher's lived right down the street from you. I dated their son Otto all through high school.
OOPPs, Mr Gower! We used to have parties at our house with LIVE bands, drove him nuts! I did a neighborhood newsletter called The Eagle Nest News. Mr Gower always thought I would go into the newspaper business.
Yes I loved the Schumacher's house and their great garden. My house overlooked the Mississippi River valley. gorgeous view.
We lived right next door to Gowers, 1108 Summit. grey house. big apple orchard. My dad used to make an ice slide down our hill to the cliff.
I went to school with the guy who lives at your house now.
That ravine is great. My grandson loves climbing down there and exploring. Lots of wildlife there now. Wild turkeys and deer. My daughter had a ten point buck in the back yard a while ago.
I am so glad my old house/neighborhood is being taken care of.
My childhood was Falcon Hgts, moved to SSP in 6th grade.
My grandma, who I spent a lot of time with, lived on Hamline across from Como Park. Big brick house. I could hear the lions roar at the zoo from her house. We went to Como a lot too.
I went to school with kids from almost every house up there. Woolsey, Klecatsky, Schumacher, McAlpine, Millberry, Bell, Stadt, Petrich, Hickock, Finden. All lived on Summit.
Frank Bell recently passed away. complications from diabeties, I believe, and he had heart issues. Just the nicest guy. He was the one that got me Med Hunting when we skipped school and almost found it together at the Ruth Street hunt in '69. I've been hunting ever since.
Quick story - Benton County Fair in St. Cloud (Actually Sauk Rapids) - we worked a pizza booth near the grandstand until closing - had a clear view of the whole row of Portapotties against one fence row.
Two drunk dudes whip a door open one night, and a drunker couple fell out (guy and girl) with something not quite buckled up correctly. You could tell by the stain on the back of her dress she was not using the "Purse Holder" for its intended purpose.
Again, I don't know what popped into my head to make me think about it, I just post everything.
I was thinking Western Pacific Railroad but couldn't figure out the y...
I still don't get the y, but I believe it is Water Power Reservation. It is on this really cool map.
Get out there and find it!
Go! Go!! Go!!!!!!!
::sulks away and puts on boots::
Kellogg park in many maps, books, and trail guide is referred to as Kellogg Mall ==== mall/moll. :pbpt:

Interesting description of someone! Was she a redhead?

Found the tree in #2, which also happens to have a geocache in it, final stage to a multi...
Spent most the rest of the day up on top... Now working and not digging... but still noodling... I'm conflicted.

Did they live by Mulberry's? They had a pool.
I also knew Carol Curry, Bevan's.
I am still friends with many, many of my SSP friends still.
Your grandpa's name is Eileen? Come on!
in a tree
on a bee
near the sea
What a wonderful find it would be!
I'm sure it's because of all the dummies... fear of lawsuits.
Have the parks dept starting delivering any porto potties down there yet?
You men have it so easy. By the way have you ever tried to take off 3 layers of clothes and keep them all from touching the gross biffy floor?
It reminds me of Thanksgiving of 2007 when I was having sewer issues and rented a porta potty for the gang. It was pretty cold that year. Brrrrrrrr
