2009 - Swede Hollow

Submitted by Clue Master on

Seems to be a lot of people at home tonight. I was going to go downtown and then remembered I hadn't seen the new Battlestar Galactica episodes and now it's a bit to late to head out.

I think some of the best spots to dig are along the upper path. just poking with a cane could be lucky.

Why did I just get this faint memory of 2003 after readig this with Como and Horton hearing a Who.

that Vic Tedesso was born in one of those shanty houses in Swede. He wrote a book about it. His dad lived there when first coming to America.

How long till the next clue????????????????????

Tesser,

Great noodling. I just read the last 3-4 hours....

Oak trees in general do not get that big by growing vertically - an oak that size would be a helluva lot fatter than what is in the park.. A lot of mature oaks are really gnarled and have large branches that go out sideways - like 90Ëš - Cottonwoods usually shoot straight up until the hit their max height - about 60-80 feet - and then start fattening up.

30 minutes to clue time.

Very interesting! Has anyone found the "open oak" then?
Mon, 01/26/2009 - 8:34 PM Permalink
PilotsHatGuy

Also I'd imagine their would be a lot of Cottonwoods down there. They're a fairly invasive and aggressive tree when it comes to seeding and i doubt much care has been taken in Swede for the kinds of trees establishing down there.

Nice job! Can you get the map to the right of it? It seems the upper NE corner of the park is missing. Unless I'm missing something.

Almost time.

Looking back over 8 years I have noticed that 6 of 8 times they tell you the park on clue 10.

Hey QueenMalley. One of the icons on the top of any post you make is labeled "Edit". I think you have 30 minutes after you make a post to go back and edit it. That way if you make a mistake, you can go back and fix it and there will be no evidence!

PHONY CLUE - WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Tonight's clue is a rather strange brew

Stirred with some gin and tonic

For those few decided to stay true,

Look at the park near Sonic.

Look long and deep, and dare not sleep

for this clue may be over-bearing

For those who care with polar underwear

This rhyme is nothing but a red herring!

I wish I could dig. I can poke a little, but I'm on restrictions after a car accident. I did try some poking yesterday, and man, I regret it today! Good luck everyone! I hope a Cooler finds it!

Your right, I did. Here's an updated one (sorry still not any higher resolution) that curves to the end of the park/ past the Hamm's Mansion.

tesser, don't forget we do Mock Hunts during the rest of the year. Mine will probably be in February this year. If you're feeling better by then, you can still get your chance to do some hunting.

I wonder if they will eventually mention all the Italian restaurants that are/were in the area. I sure miss Geno's - old family favorite - my parents went there on their first date in the 1930s. Wish I could ask them about some of the gangster tales of that era!

most of the large oaks are in the NE part of the park. Oaks usually have some dried leaves on them. The biggest oak in park is the nw coner of upper part of park.

I like to lone red oak growing on the northern point of that center bluff (#3)- it is a small red oak that is only about 15 feet tall, but it is definitely in the "Open" because the nearest tree of similar size is about 40 feet away.
