I found a phone, but was able to connect back through a friend and return it during the hunt. Great night out there,,,thanks to all who helped...fun night!
I disagree with the area being combed over...at about 2 p.m., we dug around a large tree just above the stream and outside of the path/circle, we found virgin snow on 1/3 of the tree base and an lemonaide container, large enough to hide the medallion in, still in plac under the snow...it has NOT been gone over very well. It's almost like some of the hunters might have been drinking....
Now thats cool! You people at home have to love the phone call and the picture reports back while you discuss the goings on...Almost as fun as being there!
I've read it. The waterfalls are nothing anymore. Place is still ther at the end of maria by 8th or north st, I'm not sure which. The spring is still leakin at the bottom of the hollow. Its the one on the left as you walk down...The house is way up on the blufff.
Just reading your post from earlier regarding Fountain Place. A couple of days ago I posted this:
"My husband played softball for Yarusso's a long time ago. We'd go there after the games. Always good food and friendly people. One of the players on his team lived in one of those big houses on the edge of SH to the east. They had 14 kids and bought what had previously been a rest home."
So I look up the address for these friends and it's 614 Fountain Place! The place has quite a history from being quite elegant, to a nursing home and finally home to a large family for 40 or more years. It does look a little tired.
OMG! When I got on here this AM I figured due to so few posts It had been found, but it hasn't!
Take a black light flashlight out there - that should turn up another blue 'glow.'
I so hope one o'the 'Heads find it! I'm really proud of the way we noodled the Clues as compared to the way out stuff on Mom Press' board. I think we did superb!
I should have listened to Kids. I was in SH until Clue #5 and didn't 'get back' [mentally] until further on. But I was there for the first four Clues! So I feel good about that; would feel better if I'd not gotten hung up on #5.
Oh, well! Much better than years past. I think I've come a long way since '98. LOL!!!
All those flashlights last night with the fog coming in - it looked a helluva lot like como after the leafblower dude stirred up all that dust. No winners yet?
I cannot believe that it wasn't found last night. It seems like every tree by the creek was being hacked up. I saw one Einstein just blindly shoveling and tossing int the creek and so I might be getting out my deep sea equipment because it very well could have flown into the creek. Pretty fun down there. I just hope that a coolerhead finds it. Enough of these rubes coming out of the woodwork for the last clue and having the medallion-detecting-horseshoe up their ass lead them right to it! Dagnabit! That makes me want to drink a lot and eat sliders. What a great transition into looking forward to the Vulcan Victory Dance!
\So I have to find a "big tree" and collect a "fee", right? The only way I can think after a couple hours of sleep is a "toll". If there is anywhere you can find a bridge, or where a bridge was supposed to be (between Bates and Payne potentially) maybe that is where our famous tree is?
Heck... this clue is written fairly goofy... who knows?
My only serious beef with the clues so far - absolutely nothing I can cipher as a place to "Line Up" a location. All street and landmark references have been obscure - including last night's clue.
Other than that, the anagrams, the references used - I really cannot complain. I don't think the CW's explains after this is over are NOT going to be head-spinning like last year.
Maybe... just maybe... the order of the clue represents that the "Tree" is the "Spring" we are looking for...
5. To extend or curve upward, as an arch.
There is a tree I want to say is near the halfway point around or farther south on the high path that fits this description. I noticed it yesterday as the only tree that really fell over the path as an arbor would - "arch". If anyone is going out soon, check it out... it can't hurt.
With as many people out there where the water sprang out of the ground in at least three different locations, and it still isn't found, then I think it's worth a shot.
That curved tree you are talking about is near the two massive oaks(?) at the top of the lip of the park - the house owner behind there has a huge brush pile wedged between the two oaks. That entire area on THAT (hill) side of the road has been excavated twice at least. I'd have to say that the valley side of the road in that area has remained largely untouched.
Thanks everyone for setting up the conference call last night. It was my first time out on a hunt at night. It was as crazy as what everyone says. I have been in Swede for the past 4 days and I am frankly surprised the puck has not yet been found.
This is all I can come up with for last night's clue.
"At the base of a tree collect a fee."
It has to be in a beer can. The fee would be a recycling fee.
Eureka would be a reference to the main recycling company used by Saint Paul.
How does the CW know if the puck is still where it is supposed to be? If it was in a beer can I can easily see someone picking up a frozen beer can and throwing it in the trash.
Anyone glean a stash item out of any of the clues? If the Palin reference is for Phalen creek, and the dog references were just there for anagrams, then what?
I'm not seeing the rules online right now. I have a wild idea. The first clue did not limit the puck to a park, as usual. Nor did it limit to public land! What if, by a "sin of omission" they placed it on the grounds of the church near North and Fountain? "Star" and "crossed"? No one would look there until Clue 12, and they've already narrowed it to the base of a tree. Isn't the Church about "midst" the park, halfway down the side?
Could you see the church allowing it, for Box?
Anyone dare to a casual search, near weeds (would that be the back side of the church grounds?)
I don't know, I think that things might get messed up pretty bad by people digging there. I think that the bad press that the paper would get while they need all the good press they can get. Just my thoughts. That would be crazy if they did, I just don't know if they can count on hunters being respectful to private property.
The only land I'd be worried about about seriously looking is that inner part of the traffic loop north of the Church. There's not much "grounds" around the church to search - those little triangles of land are a "NO" to me. I don't know about the edges of the parking lot - but were does the "spring" start - isn't that waaaay down the hillside?
Right behind the church. When I met you out there a couple days ago, we were digging on the side of the hill right under that location, then we went down the hill and met up with Mucluck and Ian on the trail with Gilby and Fantae in tow...
The rules state it's hidden on public land in Ramsey County.
2009 Treasure Hunt Rules
Pioneer Press
Treasure Hunt clues will be published in the Pioneer Press and on TwinCities.com beginning Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009. A new clue will appear daily through Thursday, January 29, 2009, unless the medallion is found prior to that date. Read the daily clues to search for the Pioneer Press medallion hidden on public land in Ramsey County. The medallion will not be hidden on the State Capitol grounds, at Como Zoo & Conservatory, under any skating surface, on a golf course, under artificial turf or at any construction site.
Our posted clue in the 2009 Treasure Hunt Clue folder has a misplaced comma and is missing a capital A. Doesn't change the meaning, but a lot of the purists out there consider punctuation and caps.
At the base of a big tree, collect a fee
It rests not far from the weeds
Who finds the spring will be able to sing
Eureka! And thanks to the Swedes
The clue posted on the PP Official TC Board is still missing the first line. :eyeroll:
It's the third time they've posted it wrong. The first time they fixed it around 6:30 in the morning, second time, shortly after it was posted, and now today its still wrong.
Not everyone reads a hard copy of the newspaper. That's pretty amateurish of them to screw it up three times.
Tree can also mean a "family tree" or ancestry. Alot of the clue meanings refer to ancestry.
Weed is a plant that is not valued where it is growing.
"To weed out", remove the less desirable.
Collect also can mean a short prayer comprising of an invocation, petition, and conclusing; or to bring together into one body; to gather objects. "Collect your thoughts."
In addition to the payment thing.
Weed is "also a sign of mourning."
But it just could mean the puck is at a big tree by a spring near weeds.
"April 1, 2004 is quite important as well for the Electrolux name since it is the date that The Eureka Company officially changed its name to Electrolux Home Care Products North America (Electrolux Home Care Products Ltd). This name change reflects who they are and have been for the past 30 years, a subsidiary of The Electrolux Group of Sweden. As such, they will continue to manufacture and market vacuum cleaners and other products under the Eureka, Sanitaire and Beam brand names plus additional products under the Electrolux brand name."

We went to minnesota music cafe for a last call, after a false rumor that Yarussos was still open.
Can't ever remember doing a last call after clue 11. Bad clue?
I have not read any posts since before the clue came out, so I'm way behind...
When I left the park I drove up top...it's deserted at aprox 3am. One flashlight below, and empty on top. Disappointing...
What deplorable behavior! Doesn't anybody have a little self-control..........(hiccup....burp)
Oh by the way it was 2am not 2pm...... sheesh lay off the rootbeer schnapps.
Left park around 2:30am not many people left by then. Majority started leaving between 12-1.
You know it's time to leave when frost starts forming on your jacket.
Thanks also to Redbear for setting it up.
Now does anybody know what kind of pen I should use since mine froze up and couldn't write the clue down?
hehe
Kinda feel like Gary Anderson during the big playoff missed field goal
4am comes to dang early....hopefully I don't get caught with keyboard squares on my face at work today...
Good luck to anyone able to get out this morning!

The Eureka clue does suck. And not in a good way.
All those flashlights last night with the fog coming in - it looked a helluva lot like como after the leafblower dude stirred up all that dust. No winners yet?
Kids are on the bus, so I'm heading back out for the puck...see some of you in the field!
Touche but shouldn't you have said muff said?
I sent you a PM can you please send me the famous phalen pic.
I misplaced it and would really love it.
Does anyone else have it?

Hang in there till the end.
But ....
My body is screaming... NNNOOOOOOOOOOO
I have not dug as feverishly as some off you
So I can only imagine how you feel.
I was hoping I'd wake up and find out it was found
I am going to bed then.
