Yes - you can poo in Tim's Mock Hunt of Burning Poo

Submitted by THX 1138 on
My mock hunt is going to start Oct 16!!!! 2 clues a day, 12 clues in all! Clues 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 will be given as close to 9 AM as possible. Clues 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 will be given as close to 3 PM as possible. Right here. Clues 1 and 12 are special so they will be given at special times.

Prizes: 2 pairs of tickets to Minnesota Wild home games (tbd), 2 St Paul Saints hats, 2 Pioneer Press hats, 1 DVD of all the interviews for No Time For Cold Feet along with the Zephy news story and the story on last years finders from CM, 1 bag of m and m's

Clue #1

I captured the flag nearby burial mounds

But if you look near there you’ll be left in the dark

Because it’s a sacred area that is out of bounds

One thing's the same: it's in a Ramsey County Park

Clue #2

A post every year, hey have a beer

When you find this you're on your way

But to which park should I steer?

You might find out later today

Clue #3

The typical clue that doesn't tell you poo

Usually comes around clue number three

The park has tables, grills, and a shelter too

Is that all? Not when you find two twenty

Clue #4

Live in the present, but remember the past

A one, a two, one red, one blue

Other than a vote, what can be cast?

Another treasure was hidden here too

Clue #5

A street or a few can split into two

Many times this causes a plight

Even you can figure out this clue

Should you think of nuggets and a time with no light

Clue #6

The battle for the axe was settled by fate

In an overly heated battle

Look near the reason this bout causes such hate

And the rest will follow you like cattle

Clue #7

Normally you wouldn’t re-bake veal

But in this case you should give it a try

Figuring this clue is a pretty big deal

And if you don’t get it your chances might die

Clue #8

Step up to the challenge, move away from the lake

Rockin with Ben Folds may offer a guide

The prize can be taken without using a rake

Just look for a good spot for a rodent to hide

Clue #9

Terry, Shawn, Dan, Scott, and Jason

Couldn't have been any better

They teamed with Johnson and Johnson

To help me hide my Wild sweater

hey now - I love my idea :frown:

its better than a car part or a crossroads on a path

the brick is in my truck

I came home to do a few things before going back out- I found a huge shortcut to get out there too! cuts 5 minutes off my drive

funny thing is - a hunt is an addiction- the NEEEEED is there to be out there -like a damn drug

I'm working on another one, you know ramsey county's policies. Currently there can be only one cache there (not including the east woods, that's technically Maplewood park land).

actually, as implied by the mystic law of medallion hunting... failure to turn in a found medallion as soon as possible results in forfeiture of the prizes. I'll have to contact my lawyer on this one.

I'll defend Brad, he didn't do it to be a jerk at all. He was telling me a similiar idea for the Wild hunt if he found it. I didn't think he would actually do it for a mock hunt though. But I mean the prizes are so minimal, it was the fun of actually finding a prize, and going along with it.

This I will say, he owned this hunt. I set it up so that someone could find it early if they were smart and spent some time out there.

no - he's a jerk on this one

Could you share the "similar idea" with us so that we might all understand why anyone would do such a thing?
Thu, 10/20/2005 - 12:24 PM Permalink
tim_the_hunter

I had no idea. I wanted to check on it but people were out there too late and then too early.

The point was that he found it so early that he wanted the hunt to go on.

He's giving half the prize to mucky for finding it. They each get a pair of tickets to the wild game, and can bring whoever. They each get a hat for the saints and pioneer press.

I'm insane :goofy:

lol I'll be interested in reading the explanations. So it was at Beaver Lake right? Funny I never sspent any time on this hunt, and it's almost in my backyard.

Damn! I didn't intend for this to be hurtful or mean in anyway. I thought long and hard about what to do once I found it. I knew people were jonesin for a hunt and Tim had this one looking to be a cleverly interesting long one. I remember the forecast being nice for the next few days so people who might take it wrong would only be out some hours of walking around in a beautiful park on a beautiful day. I was going to post something if either the weather got bad or it was Friday morning since that's when the mouse hunt starts.

In hindsight Tammy said it best that maybe I should have mentioned it up front but still leave it where it was for people who still wanted to hunt. I guess I wasn't seeing 20/20 that night.

I sincerely apologize to everyone who hunted for this and is upset by the outcome. I realize that these hunts aren't only for the prize but to also hone our skills. I know it's not my position to decide how we do this but I took a selfish look at the situation and thought back to all the summer hunts that I couldn't even get out to the park before it was found and how much that sucked. Other than TMK I don't think anyone was out at the park to even have the chance to find it when I did. I taped it right back where Tim hid it so nothing was changed other than I replaced his plastic Wild jersey with a $10 winning lottery ticket. This was done on purpose as well so the next finder would have more than me in the end anyway. To keep the lawyers  out of it I'm relinquishing my rights to the prize. Cluck & Kitch can split it if they want.

This sucks big time. I was hoping the response would be lighthearted ribbing but I now realize that I was being insensitive to others schedules as well. But I do need to say that nobody forces us to go out there and hunt, so I do take some offense to those who said that they could have been doing so much more with their time. You chose to hunt, the treasure was still out there. You would have still been looking if I hadn't have found it. You made the choice. The outcome may have not been what you envisioned and I apologize again for that but to say that you were held back from doing anything else is not totally my fault.

Aside from this, I will say that Tim put on a great hunt. He was right in that if you got out there early and checked out the entire park you would have noticed the 21 posts at the north entrance to the park trail that defined where to start looking anyway. The rest was just dumb luck on my part at that stage of the game.

I can't wait for the explanations. Thanks Tim. Grats Tam & Kitch

:asleep: :frown: :sheepish:

No, thank you Tim

On another note: FWIW - I was/am still sick. I got sick from prancing around in my work clothes in windy 40 degree weather at a certain park one night. Maybe I could have included a virus as part of the prize package.

Recap: I hid a plastic Wild jersey at Beaver Lake Park in St.Paul/Maplewood. It was actually hidden on the Maplewood side of the park. I tried to make it so that you could figure out the park early if you smart, and give yourself a chance to find it early if you put the time in searching and got lucky. The idea was you could get there after clue 3, but it would probably take until later clues to narrow you in on where it was found. Brad got out there Tuesday night and did a good job searching and found it. The prize will be split with Tammy who found it again on Thursday afternoon for “2nd place”.

Clue #1: Basic clue 1Â… itÂ’s not at Mounds. In the dark was a vague reference to mcNIGHT or McKnight. Ramsey county park had 2 meanings: a park in Ramsey county, AND Beaver Lake is actually 1 of 9 Ramsey County parks. Out of bounds hints to Maplewood, which is considered off limits to hunts

Clue #2: There are 21 posts lining the western border of the park at the intersection of Maryland and McKnight/the trail. A post a year=21 years, 21 years= have a beer. If you started at those posts you were on your way. The rest of the clue points out that clue 3 might tell you the park.

Clue #3: I have always wanted to use poo in a clue. Number 3= third step down. Tables, grills, shelter=duh. Two twenty is my favorite clue, it stumped most people but if/when you discovered it you were sure. In the bag of the treasure hunterÂ’s guide there is a list of parks with low probability, beaver lake falls in this list. There are 2 photos of beaver lake on SteveÂ’s website. The photo numbers are 2 and 20.

Clue #4: Dr Seuss: one fish two fish, red fish blue fish. Cast is a fishing reference. Also, the real medallion was there in 1964.

Clue #5: Nuggets: Chicken MCnuggets, time with no light=NIGHT. MCNIGHT=MCKNIGHT which is split in two by beaver lake.

Clue #6: The battle for the axe is the Gophers vs. Badgers football game. The reason for the hate is it is a border battle. The treasure was found near the border of St. Paul and Maplewood.

Clue #7: rebakeveal= beaverlake. This was the only intended anagram, and was supposed to be the giveaway for beaver lake.

Clue #8: Step up=found under a step. Away from the lake= you could find it under the step easier when moving from the lake up to the path. Rockin with Ben Folds: Ben Folds song “rockin the suburbs”, it’s in Maplewood not St. Paul. You don’t need a rake. A good spot for a rodent to hide is under the step in a burrowed out area.

Clue #9: Camo Crew members= Camouflage. Johnson and Johnson= inventors of Duct Tape. Camouflage duct tape held the treasure in place. Wild sweater: it was a little plastic wild jersey with #1 on it. Jerseys are known as sweaters in hockey.
