2011 Allison Wonderland Mock Hunt

Submitted by ares on

If you're not planning to be at the Rehash Bash, you can still register by sending me the money via Paypal to this email address or send me an email and I'll give you an address to send the check to.

I expect we'll get a big turnout this year so there should be some good competition.

Clue #1

It seems the PP had trouble you see
With many cries of things that went afoul
Were attacks baseless? You might think tasteless,
Some considered throwing in the towel.

With a hunt cut short plans had to abort
The poor kiddies just did not understand
But no need to fear, a new hunt is here
The Mock Hunt by Allison Wonderland

Let's be obvious, not so devious,
And say plainly it's in a St. Paul park.
Buried in the snow, you might want to know
At least ten paces to the closest mark

Clue #2

If this hunt's taxing, maybe relaxing
Would be nice off in a warm floral home
But like the big fall where once they played ball
You will not be able to spot a dome.

Clue #3

Hunters get surly when hunts end early
Leaving them hardly time to sit and eat.
Yet a reminder, a two time finder,
Well you'll see that he has no time for cold feet

Clue #4

Prove you're not knaves where towers by graves
Loom ominously on the horizon
Don't focus on wealth, take care of your health
An ill body can cause you to wizen

Clue #5

If treasure you seek, make your move oblique
You can no longer go to the castle
To show expertise stay close to the trees
And finding the coin will seem quite facile.

Clue #6

Digging in the cold or panning for gold
Is a hard way to come by quick riches.
Pick up a guitar, become a rock star
Soon you’ll be surrounded by…ladies.

Clue #7

A great house of law is not made from straw
Yet the pulse of a building can be stilled
Its stones not eschewed, their purpose renewed
For here yet is land on which to rebuild.

Clue #8

With some derring-do and a fearless crew
You could find treasure out on the open sea
But you’ll come up short if too close to port
So go starboard and stick around for tea.

Clue #9

So where do you go with all of this snow?
You might be driving in circles by now.
Best look for a boat, one that does not float
And steer away from its snow covered bow

Clue #10

On a snowy night, by a street lamp’s light
From up on high we bid the coin adieu.
There will be no hints for we left no prints
You see, that night, the medallion, it flew.

well so far i gather the clues to mean what parks it isn't in, or the parks that may be near by. also, possibly what it might be hidden on or in but the clues haven't given me that "this is the one park" yet

clue 5 is interesting: military moves, chess moves, chess pieces, architecture?

the health thing? fairview the street, the hospital, park name? wealth = prosperity, health = fairview?

remember the clues for mounds pointing us to "burns" also.. hmmmpphh.

Incidentally, I'm sorta surprised more people on here haven't put the pieces together... especially with the latest clue (which is an awesome clue, by the way).

Total Allison dead herrings. It is CoNo for sure. Let's be "obvious".

There are a million spots where sight lines obscure the dome.

There's a castle, obliques, cemetaries at both ends, light towers

and power transmission towers all around. ill body -- empty shell

wizen -- to dry up -- shrunken like the swimming pool?

My thoughts are based on clue 3 and a hunch/coincidence, but Marley thinks its a good noodle. Will the next clue confirm or confound?

Either way, we might be able to get down to search Saturday if its not found by then.

  • **REGARDING CLUE #6***

All is well with our dear Mr. Wonderland. However, I hate to have to inform that you'll have to wait for the clue until about 9:30 tonight. I was to post the clue for him while he attends a meeting and we are having computer issues that I don't know how to fix! I am SO sorry!!!

I decided since I used to live in Los Angeles I would post tonight's clue at 7pm Pacific time.

But seriously, I had a meeting to go to tonight that started at 7pm so I had the clue all set to post on my computer. Three browsers with the clue all ready to send out, just had to hit the post button on each. I figured my girlfriend couldn't mess that up. But then sometime during the day my computer lost power and it all got lost which we didn't know until after the meeting started. So I have to apologize for the late posting but it wasn't supposed to happen that way.

Could "Pick Up a Guitar" be a play on words?

-- Guitar chords - Cords of Wood

In a few hours it will be 4 degrees below zero. A few hours after that it will be 4 above. A few hours after that it's supposed to be 20 above and there's a good chance we won't see negative temperatures again this year. At that point this hunt will really be on.

Yeah. Keep up your bs optimisim hat guy. Its below zero out here in the park right how. The future doesn't concern me. huh huh.
