2011 Allison Wonderland Mock Hunt

Submitted by ares on

If you're not planning to be at the Rehash Bash, you can still register by sending me the money via Paypal to this email address or send me an email and I'll give you an address to send the check to.

I expect we'll get a big turnout this year so there should be some good competition.

Clue #1

It seems the PP had trouble you see
With many cries of things that went afoul
Were attacks baseless? You might think tasteless,
Some considered throwing in the towel.

With a hunt cut short plans had to abort
The poor kiddies just did not understand
But no need to fear, a new hunt is here
The Mock Hunt by Allison Wonderland

Let's be obvious, not so devious,
And say plainly it's in a St. Paul park.
Buried in the snow, you might want to know
At least ten paces to the closest mark

Clue #2

If this hunt's taxing, maybe relaxing
Would be nice off in a warm floral home
But like the big fall where once they played ball
You will not be able to spot a dome.

Clue #3

Hunters get surly when hunts end early
Leaving them hardly time to sit and eat.
Yet a reminder, a two time finder,
Well you'll see that he has no time for cold feet

Clue #4

Prove you're not knaves where towers by graves
Loom ominously on the horizon
Don't focus on wealth, take care of your health
An ill body can cause you to wizen

Clue #5

If treasure you seek, make your move oblique
You can no longer go to the castle
To show expertise stay close to the trees
And finding the coin will seem quite facile.

Clue #6

Digging in the cold or panning for gold
Is a hard way to come by quick riches.
Pick up a guitar, become a rock star
Soon you’ll be surrounded by…ladies.

Clue #7

A great house of law is not made from straw
Yet the pulse of a building can be stilled
Its stones not eschewed, their purpose renewed
For here yet is land on which to rebuild.

Clue #8

With some derring-do and a fearless crew
You could find treasure out on the open sea
But you’ll come up short if too close to port
So go starboard and stick around for tea.

Clue #9

So where do you go with all of this snow?
You might be driving in circles by now.
Best look for a boat, one that does not float
And steer away from its snow covered bow

Clue #10

On a snowy night, by a street lamp’s light
From up on high we bid the coin adieu.
There will be no hints for we left no prints
You see, that night, the medallion, it flew.

Here is the new clue:

From up on high we bid the coin adieu.

There will be no hints for we left no prints

You see, that night, the medallion, it flew.

Clue #9

You might be driving in circles by now.

Best look for a boat, one that does not float

And steer away from its snow covered bow

And the previous clues:

Clue #8

With some derring-do and a fearless crew

You could find treasure out on the open sea

But youÂ’ll come up short if too close to port

Thanks for the lame clue. No help. We already knew this. At least we won't miss dinner reservations. Unless all of us out here are missing something we all think that it'll be pretty hard to do a paces clue for 12 with a toss into a vast sea of 2 feet of snow. I can only hope that I'm enlightened during dinner.

this hunt could go more than 12!

I'm off to work out. I'll be thinking of all of you sitting with your wives/girlfriends and how you'll be wishing you were somewhere else...

My wife and I are both debating going out to look. It looks like the morning might be a better option with this clue... VDay didn't factor into the decision at all.

We didn't make the snow. However we did think there would be more people digging it up. And if you're in the right spot to begin with, even a 12th clue isn't going to get you any closer.

Oh, there are people digging...no worries about that! It's a good hunt and I thank both of you for the fun in the snow!

It would be better if I found the medallion!

I know that. I agree. But its exactly what the doctor ordered. No probs. Fun fun fun. Still out here talking with a couple from the pp boards and a park cop that was 'not told there was a mock hunt going on'. Hehe. Bedtime soon. Maybe not.

had a wonderful Valentines evening doing what we love to do together and boy does my arm hurt from it! All that up and down motion, that snow is pretty deep.

Seriously, lots of hard work and many hours out there.

If the medallion was thrown in the snow naked than good luck to the one who nicks it. Hopefully its wrapped in a white washcloth like clue one sounds like.

We are having fun AW.

find that using a soft white wash cloth helps keep the staining to a minimum :sheepish:

Post from Valleygirl:

come up short if too close to port=away from river....

last clue: from up on high: IMP we bid the coin adeau..threw it off the cliffs into:

Bruce Vento sanctuary..

VG: worth a try...that's where the great falls were ten thousand years ago.,,

also it flew: Airport Holman field can be seen from Bruce Vento...

Wabasha Bridge down onto Raspberry Island.

Bandshell is modeled on the shape of a Chris-Craft.

the walking paths crisscross in flattened circles

that look like x's. Mound's graves and tower are visible,

as are hospitals, federal buildings, west publishing,

kellogg (cereal as health food originally).

well i'm tossin' inna towel..

oh wait that doesn't sound right

clocked in my 2 morning hours. saw no one..

thing that bugs me the most, dome clue only applies to where it flew "from" not where it "landed" considering no one was actually standing at the spot it landed.

thing that bugs me the 2nd, there are plenty of park "lights" around but only a few "street" lamps, if i were to take things literally...

park guy was giving me the stink eye again today

jake has to remember that this isn't the first one that flew. i recall a very irritated marley throwing a certain michael schumacher coin from near the high bridge in 2002.

Burned myself out before I got started on this. Did anybody see this article in the Strib? I have found a lot of things in St. Paul Parks over time, but nothing like this..... I hope it was obviously a goat.

That would seriously freak me out. And yes, I would look in a grocery sack near a trail in a park. I know you would too. Although, it wouldn't stop me either, and neither would it for you.

Ken is right that we never took in the view from the exact hiding spot. However, I feel pretty confident that no dome is visible from the hiding spot, though it may be wise to allow a few feet for error.

Three more hours until clue 11. And here I was worried about this being a short hunt. Goes to show Mr. PP cluewriter what a good hiding job can do for a hunt. I guess the PP hunt from now on will only be in parks that have fallen trees.

I will openly admit that I will be at the park watching when the clue comes out tonight. I'm just not telling anyone where I'll be watching from....

Well, my park theory wasn't right (although Marley still thinks it could be) but sounds like my hiding theory was, so theres that. Good luck everyone!

you really should not comment on the clues when you host a hunt. This bugs me. Did you post this at the other boards as well? You should not confirm or deny anything IMHO.
Tue, 02/15/2011 - 3:16 PM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

I actually posted different comments on the other boards. But I didn't feel any really gave an advantage. Just clarifying issues brought up on each board. But that's not to say you're wrong. Anyway, it is official, Cluemaster did find it and will get the $300 prize. It was at Harriet Island between the playground and the levee near three trees in a triangular formation. Explanations will be posted later. Feel free to post your theories on the clues in the meantime. Rehash to follow sometime later this week.
