Guilty pleasure: Going to the LOST message boards. It kinda reminds of the PP treasure hunt board on Clue 10. Somebody new comes in and gives their observation or theory like it hasn't been discussed to death already. And all the uber-posters are like "DUH"!! or "yeah that's old news". :pbpt:
enjoy: getting the back yard looking decent, and getting the last of the leftover lumber from the bathroom remodel cut into bite sized pieces for the fire pit.the abck yard looks 100% better now (at least the part of it the goose pictures didn't show the other day).
also enjoy: making a date with tc of the davinci code saturday afternoon. (which if anyone wants to have some interesting discussion on, i'll create a thread for, so much for your simple things, simple thoughts, kitch  )
Actually where I work there isn't a decent place to get coffee in a 5 mile radius. It sucks.
Kwikstop (if there were more than 2 in the area) has some off the wall coffee that's good, but I forget the name of it, comes in a few different flavors and is pretty fresh when the brew it.
kwikstop used to be my coffee place, but the price varied depending on who was working. It's actually is the gas station I can hit with a rock from my front yard. I actually go a block down for the java city tho, cause the regular employees are nice, and honest.
can't beat good ol honesty. Bummer there are no Java City's around here, always like to try a different kind of coffee (ya never know if you'll run across something interesting).
you can order it from them on line KC. They don't have coffee shops per say -they put their product in uppper end gas stations (the shells, the cheverons, the flyers)
They have a coffee of the month club I'm thinking about joining. Send me different blends every month.
a 20 yr old woman calls looking for information on a brick house in St Paul near or on Wilkin St, maybe McBoal. her words were "it's not too small, not too quant".
My first thought is of 178 Goodrich (I describe the location, she says no but she will drive by it tomorrow and let me know the address).
so yesterday, I drove the area and only 3 houses were made of brick.
She called thismorning and told me the address. Sure enough it is the house I first mentioned to her yesterday. (pats myself on the back for naming the house in 'one brick').
sooooo, she now wants to know if an Irish woman named Sarah ever lived in the house.
I ask her if she has a last name ..... ofcourse not.
so I dabble a bit and try to look at old permit records and city directories. No such luck.
Just that the house was originally owned by Joseph Brings and was located at 314 Smith street before being moved to 178 Goodrich AND it was used in the movie Feeling Minnesota.
Wilkin Street: known as the “Little Captain” because of his small stature, Alexander Wilkin (1820-1864) was born in Orange County, New York, where he studied law with his father. After earning the rank of captain in the Mexican War, he moved to St Paul where he practiced law and dabbled in real estate. The street was named in 1849.He was the United States Marshal for Minnesota, founder of the St Paul Companies, and later fought in the Civil War where he was killed. There is also a Minnesota county named for him.
I call her back to tell her that the original house at 178 Goodrich was built in 1886 but torn down and replaced with this house from 314 Smith (which was built in about 1862).
I ask her why she didn't know the womans last name??? she decides to tell me her story. .....
When she was 8 years old she lived in the house for about a year. A spirit who seemed (or claimed) to be a witch introduced herself as Sarah. I think she also told me that another witch spoke in gaelic and banished the other witch ???
now she is writing about her experience and wants to know the house history.
yeah, he is also a professor (phd) and does work through the Minnesota Historical Society. I told her if I heard anything I would let her know and gave her some resources. ie: talking to neighbors and the current owner, deeds office.
It was just a fun story of my day to share is all... house history AND ghosts  -- all with the information of an Irish woman named Sarah in a brick house
I had a ghost in the house I grew up in, and in the one I lived in on the military base. Worked a couple of places that were too
Thankfully (after the last one being a total jerk) this house is ghost free. The winery...eh not so sure. It's got some strange activity from time to time.
the other fun project I am slowly working on are tunnels under St Paul-like from house to house/house to church / house to building (brewery/pioneer press) that sorta thing
ty tc
I forgot, I was one of 2 people to win with pocket Jacks too.
I won a Jack Daniels pack (t-shirt, couple packs of playing cards and key chains)
Congrats Me2!!
