It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.
snowdigger, Yes and that's when people got really upset about it also. In fact last year there were foot prints on the mounds from people who don't know how to respect fences and beliefs. Neighbors and the Native American community were pretty pissed off.
"Flying downhill can be quite a thrill"-- it is a thrill for someone to ski down a hill. "And a popular outdoor attraction"-- people go to the ski jump at battle creek to watch; attraction to it. "Chances of winning are nil, if you get to close to the action"- chances are slim if you get to close to the jump, it is high enough that it can be seen from a distance.
look at the explainations of past hunts. The first two clues are very significant. last year, clue #2 told you the park. In 97 clue #2 told you what it was hidden in. In 96, clue #2 told you what it was hidden in
The final clue last year, Clue #12, started like this:
"Your luck will be nil until you go west from a hill near Chippewa Avenue and Wyoming Street."
Interesting that the clue-writer used the word nil last year too. I think the use of the word nil is just part of the writer's style, and probably doesn't refer to anything special.
I like regalman's idea, skiing is an attraction and a thrill, and they have the skiing at battle creek, well at least you can see it.. How much of Battle Creek though is in Maplewood? They made it pretty clear where the past clues are listed that Maplewood didn't appreciate it..And 1982 was the last time the medallion was hidden outside of st paul
This years clues will have somethin to do with History because of the Anniversary, might this be tellin us that this might be the first time in history that the medallion was hidden in the same park two times in a row?
Scene, caught-------Police Station REMEMBER, Cherokee exstends farther down past the HighBridge\ Flying Downhill-----go farther downhill towards the bluffs where you can see the Police station
Any idea right now can somehow be twisted to fit the clues. For some reason, with the amount available, I feel the medallion will be in some small, one or two block park, not the large well mapped out parks.
well i think the detail is an excuse for two reasons. throw people off. and ryme with scene. i like scene. but cant fit it with cherokee yet. oh scenic overlook, it has those right?
venatic- it was there in 87
it said "downhill" was bringing back the sliding reference.
Thrill, attraction, action, caught, scene, green, I cannot put these together!!!
Birdie--why do you group those words together?
Birdie don't try it is to early for the specifics.
lurking
I dunno
I don't understand the "attraction" part of clue #2...sledding isn't an attraction?

Also the first year that the medallion is listed , it was hidden in highland park...

But I could be wrong...
But where from a distance????

I think people are getting WAY too much into detail...
not exactly sure where it can be seen from, but it is high enough
Me and the Medallion Mobile
maybe nil means cherokee again?
Howdy Eags!

Yeah that'd be cool if they hid in the exact same place as last year!!
About 1/3 of Battle Creek is in Maplewood, the Eastern third. Step you are correct that people are getting to detailed.
If it is cherokee, it would be sweet because we all know Cherokee like the back of our hand from being there so often last year
Just searching maps of St. Paul, and Saw the park along the river on the Highland part of town. Downhill maybe somehow a reference to SUMMIT Avenue?
I'm back. Can you see Hollman airport from the Capitol mall Park?
could be Birdie....
But does Cherokee fit all of the discription so far?
This is just a crazy idea, but maybe the nil could also be short for Nilla as in wafers. Maybe could be in a nilla wafer box.
I do think I'm going way far off with that idea.
Oh God I know it like the back of my hand anyways. But.......I think that CP again iz wishful thinking
medallionhound--what I get out of it so far is that it is at a park with a golf course and a sledding/skiing hill and you should avoid both....
Hey! Anybuddy want to go to Cherokee Park and dig in the same exact spot where it was found last year??? I'm liking this idea!
nil=nothing.
Me and the Medallion Mobile
cherokee, has sledding. it has no golf. it was an attraction for us last year. i spouse all parks fit description so far. we'll see tonight.
What *some* people did wrong last year was look TOO DEEP into the clues.
Scene, caught-------Police Station REMEMBER, Cherokee exstends farther down past the HighBridge\ Flying Downhill-----go farther downhill towards the bluffs where you can see the Police station
Eags: You live by CP, wanna go try it now?
Step i am with you all the way so far. But there is the nagging part of me that the park doesn't have a golf course.
bandit--they really were basic when they gave the answers....i agree with you.
Me and the Medallion Mobile
dug the spot in hidden falls, found a mound of dirt. nothing in it. hmm, maybe same spot in cherokee. to the bat(medallion)mobile robin!!
I don't think "nil" has any special significance. I think the clue-writer just likes to use that word to rhyme with "hill".
Hound--Really? You may be right, but why would they go in such detail about it if there was no course? It just doesn't make sense to me...any opinion?

Well, I'm going to CP by the tree they found it at last year. Anybuddy wanna join me?
Me and the Medallion Mobile
well i think the detail is an excuse for two reasons. throw people off. and ryme with scene. i like scene. but cant fit it with cherokee yet. oh scenic overlook, it has those right?
Cory--good point....in a certain way, they are kind of turing us off from big parks....avoid golf courses and sledding hills?
Step- It might not have a golf course but at the begging they are so vague with the clues they don't want idiots digging them up.
It's not at Cherokee....
Me and the Medallion Mobile
I would join you, but gots school tomorow. could go afterwards. but youve dug by then.
Me and the Medallion Mobile
well cherokee, highland, or hiddenfalls.
hound--that could be....I can't wait for tonights clue...I think it will have some REAL answers in it....
