It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.
Ma Ozzy
Wow, first time I have been able to get on here all day!!!!
! I am glad I am not the only one leaning towards Capital Mall right now...
But, after doing this for oh so many years, I still have my doubts... Usually, when the clues seem this vague, I start to lean towards a smaller, neighborhood park....
It's been at Newell before and the same parking existed then and hundreds of people found parking then. Forget the Capital - it's not going to be there. There's no sledding there, at least none that I'm aware of. The Capital just doesn't fit the clues.
I was out diggin' with y'all last year and the year before, and the year before... This year, I'm stuck in New Jersey! Like I mentioned last year, I became a flight attendant and I am out to see the world! (Doing much better at that than trying to figure out this year's clues!) I just logged on for the first time this year (I just got home and just got to the library.) Where is Newell Park? I've never heard of it. I can't believe Clue #5 is out and the park is still not nailed down. I do like the iconoclast clue linking to Jesse. (Way to go, thanks for voting him into office! I do believe he's going to kick some butt!!!) I'm returning home for a visit 4/5 but it'll be too late. I'm so upset and it's worth 10grand!!! They are going to make this hunt unbelievably hard! Ouch! Anyways, I can be found at inasuitcase@hotmail.com if anyone would like to give me personal tidbits on the clues (insider info) since they won't serve me any good or just cheer me up with some Minnesota humor. I'll keep checking back on your progress. Good Luck and let's hope this year is the year for the Water Cooler Crew:)!
The reason I doubt the mall is the whole golf course thing, but that can just be to throw us off or to eliminate parks with golf courses. I just know it ain't Como, and Newell just seems a little too easy. In addition, the numbers are in reference to something "adorning" and I doubt that the Radio tower adorns the front door to the park whereas a monument or actual door may. I don't think there is a space problem at the mall and a future clue can keep us from digging up or damaging monuments as well as the heavily armed state troopers.
The Irish... I must agree with you, I should hope they would not make the clues so easy as to point to Newell... But then again, I was very disappointed last year on how easy the clues were, and also last time it was at Highland park... I just hope it will be a bit more challenging this year, especially since it is worth so much more money!
If you run iconoclast through the Thesauras you get: critic, loud critic, anti-establishment. So this whole "destroying religous symbols" is too dictionary and not really the way the word is used anymore. So any ideas for parks basee on "critics"? and who was this Newell guy anyway?
As was said earlier there was the large "Big Slide" when the Winter Carnival started a long time ago right by the Capitol. So even though there is not really sledding now there was, which I know is a weak theory but oh well.
10k - why not put it in a brand new spot - a new park - wow there's an idea - it's 10k - they don't want anyone to find it until 11th-12th clue - the fun and excitment has to last for the carnival week - how much fun would it be if the damn thing was found before the first weekend - not much at all - those guys at PP are laughing at all you guys are your brilliant - 459,954, 4 and a 9 and 5 - dictionary theories and all historic ideas - I laugh because - these clues are way to early to read into as much as everyone is....
"iconoclast" unscrambled is "locations" meaning the location is in this clue, hence "New Well" or Newell!!! Also I think 9, 5, and 4 are refferences to people on a sports team, 9 players, 5 players, and 4 players get them right and shout!
You guys are all thinking wrong. Look at the parks involved and then isolate the clues to the parks. How has highland been considered such a big choice? How has Newell? Think ABOUT the clues. Do you even know all the parks in st. Paul. There are quite a few, not just the few that have been tossed around in the last few days.
Tango-- I agree! I had a message simular to that but lost it so I couldn't send it!. Any time a "real" word ie: adorn, fairway, scene, learning, and so on is used people read into it until they have nightmares of these images. Most words in a clue are just filling space. Look back at old clues and the explanations for them. They can use 2 paragraphs to say it is by a running trail! Don't try to make every word in a clue fit! Happy Hunting Everyone!!!
I think I found the spot where's its hidden. It fits all the clues without too much stretching, but its too much ground for one person to cover. But since all good theories explain AND predict, my prediction is that future clues will allude to Chatsworth, Kilburn, and/or a retirement home.
Hey Doc, knock off the cheese...you're stopping up my colon with the continual references. vbg. So, if it's in GL it must be able to be retrieved with something with cylinders. What do you think?
I support and promote the theory that with 10K on the line the PP is going to get as much press (sorry for the wording) as possible. The clues won't nail the park for 2 or 3 more days.
Alliego, if you were to dig tonight, where would you go? I am leaning towards Battle Creek. But the Capitol intrigues me. I think I am stretching the clues too much this early.
Did I find numbers near Kilburn? Oh boy did I. On the street sign for Kilburn the address is listed as 950. The first house past that is 958. So the 950 part is easy to find, but the 4 you have to approximate (somewhere a four). This is by a section of Como far from the golf course, sledding, and all the other action. You can see the tower from Chelsea Heights school from there, and one would have to be a real iconoclast to think they'd put it in Como again so soon.
I'm an early digger...I'll be digging in Highland again. Anything other than a park is a mistake. You have to take the ClueMaster at his word. I think that that's reasonable.
So Doc, you love cheese, we got that. Do you have any thoughts not related to dairy products or mythical cities? Cheese and GL are great, but not very helpful. Sorry Mr. Mayor. ;)

Hey this is Sharky!
I am so bummed...

Inside sources say Merriam is too small of park for a $10,000 prize. Could it be near the historical society? old and new

Yeeha, I got on! I haven't been able to get on since early last evening! I've gotta go slog and see what the consensus re: last night's clue is!

As was said earlier there was the large "Big Slide" when the Winter Carnival started a long time ago right by the Capitol. So even though there is not really sledding now there was, which I know is a weak theory but oh well.

Soylent Green is PEOPLE!!!!
Are all aware of MTC routes 9 & 4 running along hwy 5 adjacent to Highland (routes 54 & 94 also run by Highland)?

Hats off to the ClueMaster for a fantastic job. I really love when it goes the entire 12 days. These clues are great....ummm, I think.
I think it would be just fine to find it myself on the fifth day, but if someone else has to find it then twelve days are good.
Well said, Socrates

Socrates95- All I have to say is EXACTLY!!!!! lol Happy hunting all and I will TRY to be on tonight!!!!!!!
Where are you hunting?
Alliego, if you were to dig tonight, where would you go? I am leaning towards Battle Creek. But the Capitol intrigues me. I think I am stretching the clues too much this early.
AmyT, thanks and cya tonight.
I still say it's in Como. I don't think you can get the other parks to fit all the clues.
Anyone thinking Linwood?
Allison, just be careful not to go chasing the big white bunny into Como. ;)
Allison: did u find #'s near Kilburn?
if you are hungry maybe its in garage logic hidden in cheese!...behold the power of cheese
Boss, I am now. Thanks for the confusion. My last surviving brain cell is starting to have a melt down. lol.
grab a cylinder go to garage logic and dig...it aint easy bieng cheesy
Back to the cheese again. You make me think you're Sansevere(sp?) from the KQ Morning show.
If a shovel digs in the snow, and there is nobody around to see it, does the shovel dig in vain?
It's just way to early!!!!!!!!

To answer your question scoot, the answer is no, because medallion hunters, like dogs, always mark their territory at the bases of trees.
