the entire park of Crosby is a nature center- pretty much just beyond the 'shelter'. this clue is only helping the clueless, or those who wish for a better clue. It is REALLY looking like the last 2 hunts, where pretty much every clue tells you the park, and clue 12 tells 124,000 people to "go find it" The only difference is that this year, instead of putting 'it' in a small dense patch of woods, they're giving us a couple hundred acres of woods to look in. I'm still intrigued. I just got home, and wish&pray that all those still down there will say the same later on.
FYI The cost to turn on the power at Crosby is $45. We will be there for the RHB.
And I should also mention that we burned OTiS'S pants in the fire pit, so he needs to get a new pair. With all that said, SCD'S & MCL everyone! I have some left over caramel rolls, and pre-ground Folgers. I ain't capable of anything else at this time.

Well- have no fear- sir underdog- but we were having fun wanging our chung tonight. There may have been some lichen, but I was not a witness to any of it.
just got back from crosby, i walked the entire trail. I'm tired and cold and if that thing is found at crosby before clue ten, then its a set up. That place is so big, with so many trees and woods that you would have to be the luckiest person in the world if you found it.
So, for those who double back into the conversation thread when they wake up in the morning, I'm going to do my late night blah-blah thing with what I think so far. Ignore it, absorb it, or respond to it so I can do my own double back on my first of many clue noodlin' coffee breaks.
Crosby it is. I feel about as good about it as I have ever felt about a park. The Elway/Gannon field generals bookending Homer was the kicker...I mean the quarterback. That was just such a precious clue. I don't think the clue writers are trying to throw us off. It's a good time to use a weird park. People are sick of klutzing around behemoths like Phalen and Como but they don't want the short hunts of Merriam and Newell. This has Conway status.
Granted, Crosby is much bigger than Conway, but the writers are being careful to rule out big chunks of the park. And they're being extra careful to keep hunters away from dangerous parts of the park, because if memory serves correctly, Crosby is wilder than most St. Paul parks. Folks could get hurt if they wander too far off hiking paths.
Now I read somewhere -- here or at the Pioneer Press discussion thread, I forget which -- that there's a big ol' tree that's obviously toppled across a path but has been munched out of the way with a chainsaw. True? If so, I like the bivouac potential of that area.
Bivouac as in set'cher self up with an encampment, but also as a scan for "solid shelter." Also for clearings amongst the "wood to burn."
Why do I care about a fallen tree? I'm still thinking about the "What's that you hear?" portion of Clue 3. If there is a huge fallen tree that was chopped to unblock a hiking path, I think the clue writers are saying "yo, we didn't cut the tree down just to make a landmark." It's a play on "If a tree falls in the woods, does anyone hear it?"
Others have tried to attach "a giant falls" to this tree, which would be doubly delicious, but I'm feeling pretty good about sirens and giants giving us Homer.
Yes Greg...there is a huge tree that looks like it was growing split at one point in time. When it fell, each side went it's one way. The base is on the east side of the main trail with large sections on both sides. Most of the "chainsawed"timber has been moved to the west side of the trail.
Online chatter at the "official" discussion board is blowing up Clue 5's "helter skelter" with Beatles, Manson, and even Byrds (David Crosby) references. About the only angle I like there is that "Helter Skelter" is on The White Album and a white jewel case would be a terrific thing to hide it in. Also, the editor in me wonders why "helter skelter" is set off by commas in the clue. It's unnecessary thus maybe it's important.
From the front line: I read that somebody was caught at Crosby removing trail marker numbers. That's not in the spirit of the game, a$$hole.
Why do I fear that somebody is going to think they need to tear branches down to create "room and wood to burn" before this thing is done. Egads.
I tried it, No one found my "cooler" mark in the snow yet (as far as I know). I posted the "cooler pic" a while back! Been there since clue 2. Know where the beaver is at crosby? I do. That an the easy chair,,,Thats your mark. E-gram me and I'll fill you in if need be. Love ya bro!
I'm serious....Next year I think we should make a game out of find each others mark. Be it in the tree or something hung on a tree. Things like that will keep our eyes moving and shape while were are roaming the woods.
One of the two places I marked the snow was right near that huge tree that was cut up across the path.
For those who don't know me, don't yell at me for being an online squatter. I don't need any "go to the park, computer geek" comments. I'm writing to you from San Francisco. I'd love to be among y'all, but I'm afraid it's not possible again this year.
But I do have a cell phone force keeping me in the loop from search sites. I love it. It makes me feel all Brando in Apocalypse Now.
Hoping we get to the double digits in clues this year...
Just got back from CB. Ian 3M & I were last to leave from the CC. There was probably still 10-15 people out there. It's there. If not, people will be pretty pissed. Even met a guy named Wes who showed us pix of last years medallion as soon as it was found. It was way bigger than the one shown at the theater that their bidding on. huh
I still like the area back by the new shelter better than the fire pit one where we hung out all night. Nice fire starter KTÂ

how about a list of all the parks with a fire ring and a shelter of some sort. I will work on this tonight when dark. gonna go now to be at the park by sunrise. New tactic for this year . I hope to get out befor sunrise and be one of the first to see the park with the new clue in daylight. more daylight diggin and less nighttime diggin. I also avoid rush hour from White Bear LAke to Crosby... what a haul.Â
Biggest problem with it is that I don't get to see you guys as much. hope to see ya all in the park today. my sign is a big dug out area. can't miss it.

The big fallen tree was a giant.  there are many giant cottonwoods there. it is a very pritty oark. one of my favorites for sking.  know the park well. there is a natural wood shelter from a cluster of small trees that were knocked down when a mid size tree fella natural wooded lean too. I plan to dig there today. on a side trail not part of the paved marked trials that are usually use. this trial does come off the parking lot.
So super to see you here. Wish you were HERE in the park with the rest of us.Â
I agree with the giant and siren pointing to Homer's Odyssey. It was the first thing in that clue that jumped out at me...but it took a few minutes to actually believe that was correct as I was trying to fit it with the field generals. Once I separated the two, the rest seemed obvious and the "here's the park" clue.
Here's hoping I can get out of the office today. Depends on what the auditors have in mind...and unfortunately, they are from Chicago and without any interest in pucks hidden in parks.
