I always think of a grove of trees like a clump as it were in the middle of open spaces.  Probably comes from being married to someone from west central Minnesota where any clump of trees is surrounded by farmland.  Those clumps are called groves by everyone there.

Where the original farm house was, is there a separate grove of trees?

any other parks have islands

I'm trying to keep it simple.  Seems like just another clue that alludes to Crosby....there is Pike island just to the South, although I don't know of anyone having been kicked off....

Interesting (besides all the musical references) that island and my land rhyme with that other park up the hill...

Great Britain is an island - and that's where the original owners of the 160 acres were from originally.  Were they kicked out of England?

Thomas Crosby was an english immigrant.  I think maybe the Island is Britain.  Then again, it could be Crosby.

hmm.. they seem to like referring to crosby, every clue, crosby...

You know if you ignored the first two lines of each clue you would get a totally different park than Crosby.  All the totally obvious stuff pointing to Crosby is in the first two lines.  Further proof towards a conspiracy.

How far does one walk from the parking lot to the "fallen giant" and the shelter? I'm wondering which shoes I should wear for huntin' tomorrow! And I don't want to get lost!

But were they hiding from Great Britain?

not much more info than that though...out in the open, but in a grove? take a trail through the woods that a XC skier would use.. start from a solid shelter...

I'm thinking we need to look a park where the medallion was found before.

When was the first medallion hunt held.  The cooler crew website only goes back to the 1952 hunt.

Pike Island is part of Fort Snelling state park, not crosby, but it is right across the river from crosby.

If this is a map of where the clues are to lead us, we are going from the shelter along the path to an open field where yarrow grows and back to where the original structure was located in a grove of trees.

I'm sorry Jaz.  I  wasn't sure if I saw it here or at the PP.  That's why I phrased it that way.

She might be right, outtas daughter.  They referred to a treasure fit for a king earlier.  That's probably gold too.

If it's at crosby, are the clues giving directions that just lead you further and further into the park from the pavillion/shelter?

wow it's like virtual medallion hunting. "Okay outta, go 50 paces north to the grove of trees and tell me what you see"

KC0GRN

I think most people are just noodling the clue, but again the most obvious reference is crosby, and a directional clue is cryptic at best.
