Discuss the 2005 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt here.

So what is this "invitational thread"? I've been a part of the Cooler Crew since the very beginning in 1997. I may do more reading than posting, but I certainly have contributed some ideas over the years.
So, what do you have to do to get invited to the invitational thread? It seems a bit unfair to call this forum the Cooler Crew if the Cooler Crew has moved somewhere else. Especially for those of us who have been around for many years but may be wallflowers.
It bugs me that some people are so intolerant of "lurkers." There are lots and lots of reasons why people don't post. *I* don't post that often because usually someone who spends more time here than I do has already said what I wanted to say. And given all the warnings about how slowly the site is running, etc., it doesn't make sense to post just for the sake of posting. Some people are at the mercy of their Internet connections -- slow connection, less posts. Some people just aren't comfortable until they've been hunting for a while. Not posting doesn't mean that people don't contribute to the community or that they're here only to steal ideas. Cut folks a little slack...
I gotta good idea where The Med izz, BUT... I can't get it to work with the below the pond bit.
But here's a noodle:Â Below the pond could be three different directions, depending on 1) what direction/end you come into the park, or 2) below both ponds, i.e., "below" could be SW, NE, or SE - below the two ponds towards the Miss E. Sloppy.
I agree with the fact that I think certain options on here are difficult to navigate -but I also think that there is never a perfect solution for everyone.
I also agree that it is a pain when you log out for 3 hours to come back to 600 posts which consist of things like - I hate parking - who's at what bar etc. It would be nice if outside comments were left to a different thread - or if you could be monitoring 2 threads at once with little effort.
That being said - I disagree with the the clique thing, as being a newbie I was welcomed rather forthright - and adore each and every one of the CC.
Perhaps this is something that should be tabled until post hunt when nerves are not strained and people have a chance to step back and take a clearer look at the picture.Â
For two years in a row, parks that USUALLY have their gates CLSOED during The Hunt have had their gates OPEN. And during those two years where the gates had been closed but then were open - thattiz where the Puck is!!!
Also, "Southern Croxx" was just on KQ... Head for the southern croxx!!!
meet me near the front of the line tonight and we can catch up!! I have glasses and wear a "fender" hat and actually talk and share views of clues etc.
The invitational thread was merely created to keep sexist juvenile behavior to a minimum - a lot of threatening things were said and directed towards some people and it went too far....anyone in the invitational can vouch for anyone to get the "access". It isnt that big of a deal actually - f.i. AW says the same shit in there that he says in here - most CC people i have ever met tell me things and share ideas provided i share my thoughts... all you have to do is make yourslef known ( which you have obviously done) and join in on the fun!! I WILL TAKE YOU UP ON YOUR OFFER BRO! meet me in the front of the line tonight.....
Because, and KT will admit it, Matt's really caused some bad crap in years past. I, for one, got the MOST HORRIBLE e-gram from him and sent it to THX. I think he was then booted from here. I hope he's not allowed bock in... I'd thought he'd changed (ran into him at TPDG and shook his hand), and KT had said he'd grown up...
But... he's doing his crap all over again. I can't take it. I BLESS this thread. Peace and quiet and just hunting.
Red, up until the 1858 clue... I was still in BC!!! LOL!!!
this was a place to go once the PP cooler threads went p00f!
I will be the first to admit this place is slow and hard to navigate BUT - its better then the alternative at this point - maybe MA needs to get her site up to speed!
green, wow! CM told me that it was crosby and my big noodlin' got me there too. I was so happy that I was right I was so disapointed that I wasn't the only one. That's what I get for going to vegas during hunt times.
THE gallant Youth, who may have gained,            Or seeks, a "winsome Marrow,"          Was but an Infant in the lap            When first I looked on Yarrow;          Once more, by Newark's Castle-gate            Long left without a warder,          I stood, looked, listened, and with Thee,            Great Minstrel of the Border! Minstrel (singing), marrow, yarrow---from poem by Wm wordsworth
There are a number of people who come here each year for a few days, and then leave until the next cycle. I'm one of them. In perhaps my most liberal statement ever, my gripes about "the system" are largely due to not everyone getting a fair shot. One person already immediately complained about being around for years, yet never knew about the private forum. How many more are there that aren’t here or won’t say anything?
Public forums are to be universally inclusive, and based upon demerit, singly exclusive. This is not the case. As anyone would plainly see that the "private" forum has much more useful information. The fact that abusive users were able to get out of control is a score against this forum engine, not a score towards segregation. There are better ways to deal with this information.
Understand that there is a large piece of internet forum philosophy that many of you "social" forum users are missing—anonymity. It has its negatives in the form of abuse, but it has its positives in the form of enabling the reclusive a safe voice. This is more important than those who don’t perceive it could possible fathom.
Allison said so himself—he was a lurker who eased his way into participation. By requiring that people “make themselves known” before giving them access to the private thread you are assuming that people want to make themselves well known in the first place. By this tenet Allison would have been less likely to participate in the community to begin with, and considering that nobody knows about the private forum until they’re informed or otherwise invited, Allison could very well have dropped off the map. I make reference to him because he is admittedly an invaluable icon here and I have a good idea of where he’s coming from.
The vibe here is also “put up or shut up,” and I’ve given my invitation to shoulder the Internet burden this community creates. Supposing this is something that can be discussed further, I will look into establishing a relationship with the more apt to talk about the house and its foundation instead of how it’s decorated.
Just woke up from my nap. Regarding Matt. I've had some concerns about this myself. And I'm sure that there are others not in here who know something's up. The ratio of posts in here and in the regular thread is huge. If people would do their regular posting in there and just use this for ideas or messages they don't want seen, I think it would be more fair for those who for one reason or another haven't been invited. I know that when I was first invited I was leery of the whole thing. I felt it was unfair to those who had been sharing in the other thread, which I had been doing for some time before I got an invite. That's why anything that I think might be important I post in both threads. I never post anything that others have said though. Them's the rules. I shared these concerns with someone just the other day. So that's what I think.
Just got home from the park - dug on both ends (nearer picnic shelter/Eagle sign and past the big tree at the next intersection). The big tree is completely dug up - I am amazed that people are still taking the time to get under it, around it, etc.
OT, just to be devil's advocate, we had to boot someone from the posse back in the day too because they were wierd, which you and I both agreed to do. It's all relative.
Randy- I've been bitter since the beginning! My statements ring clear and for the most part they seem to be received.
I'm not out to get you. I'm not out to demolish friendships or gun down a mob of happiness. I'm concerned, and I'm pointing out discrepancies and challenging responses. This place used to be a lot better, and to deny it is a seriously questionable gamble.
Kitch, one thing I've always thought was a "once blue pond" is a "marsh."Â Marshes are ponds that have filled in with vegetation, and eventually become valleys, blah, blah, blah.
So... There a low place that was once water filled? A marsh-like kind'a place?
Would Terra Server show the 3rd pond? I've not seen it on any map o'Crosby I've looked at.
I undestand that most come here for the 12 days of the hunt. But as a community this forum has become so much more. There are a lot of threads in the off season. Most having fun and making us laugh. But others discussing peoples lives, jobs, familiies, weddings, babies, deaths....this community to me is so much more then 12 days looking for the most important posts. Even the small hello posts mean something.  Look at what a group we have done for Zeph. This isnt an individual effort. It was started because of the hunt but it is so much more. It is a group of people coming together to help a fellow cooler crew member who is serving our country in Iraq. This is what I see when I look at the Cooler Crew. A family supporting each other through ups and downs. And once a year we get together to throw ideas and try to solve clues to find the Medallion.   What about the several other Mock Hunts that people put together. This group isnt a once a year group.....it is something for all year long.....If you feel the need to improve I challenge you to do that. Create an online community for the 12 days of the Winter Carnival Medallion Hunt if you feel that it is necessary to keep out the hellos and how are you doings....even the joes if you must....But if you need somewhere to vent, share good or bad news with, and have a ball during the hunt....WE ARE HERE TOGETHER!!

Here's my contribution to the folk music connection-
A little diddy by my for all to enjoy--(maybe someone can set it to a folk tune)
Someday I'll move to Sante Fe
Where the sunshine never goes away.
But 'till then I will remain,
To hunt the medallion and to train,
My mind to decipher these treacherous clues.
Which drastically reduce my winter blues.
To trod through snow and brush and ice,
Toting every hunting device.
Flashlights, shovels, lanterns and picks,
A community gathering that really kicks!
So people get your act together.
Get out and brave that winter weather.
To Crosby I go this very night,
Medallion in hand, shouts of delight!!
Sir Osyter... The voice o'reason! Dennis the Fuzzy Gherkin!Â
My Pickles takes xception to Dennis getting that moniker.  But I guess, in actuality, Pickles was the FURFY Gherkin when he was widdo.
