Dudes, I used to organize for a living and y'all are driving me nuts. Contest vs. no contest; new logo vs. not new logo; clothes, flashies, etc. Here is what I propose:
We cannot discuss the new logo thing ad infinitum. We have to agree to either have a contest with a few different logos to pick from (and include the old one), or stick with what we have. So, do you want a contest or not? I can go either way. Same goes for a crest. Do we want one or not? If yes, let's include that as part of the contest. If we do have a contest, we need to get as many people to vote as possible. This means emailing everyone as well as managing an invitational link. Does anyone want to take ownership of running the contest if we have one?
Regarding what we wear - I am not, repeat not, going to dress up like a clown, cowboy, fireman, etc. If you want to, go ahead. I think it is funny and I will laugh at you, but my guess is most people will wear normal digging clothes and may purchase one or two things with the new (or old) logo. I would also prefer that we maintained more of a hunter type image, but again, this is up to you. I admit, that I will probably occassionally wear a tiara at cooler crew gatherings, but I don't expect to hunt in it.
Regarding flashy things, some people do not want to spend money on this stuff. It is relatively cheap, but when you buy a bunch of it, it does add up. My suggestion, everyone buy their own crap next year and pass it around, trade it, do whatever. That is what we did this year and it seemed to work. Orientaltrader is a good site and there are others.
Regarding the parade, it is easy to get in. Many people have expressed an interest in it. Does anyone want to take ownership of organizing this for next year? It will require you emailing everyone before the hunt begins.
The Ramsey County attorney Monday charged the St. Paul Winter Carnival's Vulcan King with three counts of misdemeanor sexual assault, alleging he molested three female bartenders during an annual garter ritual.
The women reported the caped Vulcans surrounded them the evening of Feb. 1 at Alary's Bar at 139 E. Seventh St.
According to the criminal complaint, the women bartenders agreed to allow the Vulcans to run the garters up their legs. But instead of performing the ritual in public, the Vulcans circled each woman and held their capes up while Thomas Clifford Trudeau, 54, touched the women's breasts, buttocks and crotches.
Trudeau tried to kiss one of the women, according to the complaint. A member of the Vulcans apologized to the women after the incident, according to the complaint. The garter episodes were not part of official Winter Carnival events, said Bob Viking, president and CEO of the St. Paul Festival and Heritage Foundation, which puts on the carnival.
In Winter Carnival lore, the Vulcans represent fire and pave the way for summer. They are one of several groups that carry on festival traditions and wear distinctive costumes, which include capes, helmets and goggles.
I will be happy to run both the contest and the organization of the parade.
By organizing the parade I mean I will make sure we are entered and as the time draws near I will make sure all parties get emailed. As for what we do or dont do in the parade this will be a voting type thing I would imagine!!
I'm willing to help out with the parade as well :) I got lots of inside access :D I rub elbows with the St.Paul Clown Club and the Klondike Kates.. and if we can get someone to sponsor us.. that may even cover the entry fee for the parade. I've done that before, they sponsor us.. we advertize for them.. it works out great!
Ok.. lets hash out the logo and crest thing first. Leelabell covered this earlier but for those who missed it while slogging:
Those of you who are submitting both logos and crests will post them here. I think the end of Feb was the date considered for voting. Pay Me will worry about that. Voting will take place in an thread so everyone can see the votes.
There will be 3 things to vote on.
Do we want to have both a logo and a crest? Which Logo you like. Which Crest you like.
The rest of the stuff we can work out with no rush as we still have 11 months to go.
you're not supposed 2 throw it.. but you can hand it out. That much I do know.. btw.. if anyone needs a clown for a kids b-day... let me know.. I can getcha the hook up :) My cousin is in the St.Paul Clown Club!
I think we defer on the candy issue until we sign up for the parade. Maybe that should be the only opportunity to hand it out, if allowed under the parade rules.
mrmnmikey, I saw the date on your pictures. Is that where the medallion was found? You seem like a lucky guy. I think I should hang out with you next year. Are you married?Â
yeah and like i was telling scribe, my sister's boyfriends dad was rex LAST year, and the paper printed HIS picture in the paper for THIS year when reporting on this whole thing. :/
I'm not taking back any of my support for the Vulcs until a full and thorough investigation is completed and He is convicted by a jury of his peers. (which should all be Vulcs, but I'm biased)
No Candy. No Candy. No Candy.
Besides kids like to get cool stuff, not more lame-ass tootsie rolls and crap.
I said my thing about the Vulc King. When we meet him he was very sincere in talking about the rules he was sticking too. I mean it was an actual conversation that he didn't need to have in the first place.
If we are to pass out stuff to kids along a parade route, and sticking to what we're about which is hunting, what about plastic shovels? Sand box shovels would be small and cheap enough I would think.
I believe I've slogged through the whole discussion on logos, parade, dress-up attire....
I still think our original "cooler crew" logo suits us just fine. But I think encouraging new ideas is good too. Lets see what people come up with (and I'll still get to cast my vote for the one *I* like the best).
What would really be nice is to have a smaller "crest" type logo that would be more suited for doing the "cooler" wear. Something that would be relatively easy to get set up for embroidery, or even a patch type thing to go on hats, jacket, scarves....and the like. I like this idea a lot.Â
I don't think either the crest OR the logo would necessarily have to have the "You Dig" slogan, but either certainly could.
Sorry for so much all at once, but I can't stay up a lot longer, and I know if I wait till morning, there'll be slogging all over again :).

Can we move on now?

NOOOO, Vulcanus Rex has been arrested? How can you people even think of attire at a time like this?
Â
Oh yeah, and regarding candy... NO WAY! Liability issues big time.
Â
wow i can't believe he was arrested. lame. sounds like trouble.
you're not supposed 2 throw it.. but you can hand it out. That much I do know.. btw.. if anyone needs a clown for a kids b-day... let me know.. I can getcha the hook up :) My cousin is in the St.Paul Clown Club!
It's just bad bad bad
What are you sad about, G?

Now that I understand exactly what happened with the Vulcs, I take back what I said the other night. It sounds a lot worse than I originally thought.
What makes it really bad as far as I can tell is there are only two sets of witnesses.
The Vulcs and the three women involved.
My cousin Dennis.. aka JR

It is not that I am not supporting the vulcs. I am just worried that it might be true.
just HAD to do it, didn't you, Scribe.
Â
Geez.
I hope it's not true.
But it's not sounding good either.
Outta, we get the idea about the candy. We can defer that discussion until next year. What we say now about candy won't be remembered anyway.
I am too, leelabell.Â
I just pray it's not.

Kids like candy fine. I don't like liability.
Read some Tort law, that will scare you over to my point of view.
Forget it, nada, zippo.

If it's cheap of course...

Damn, and I like jokes too.:)
