2002 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

Knit...to me this word is either nothing or another one of those mittens/pouches that it gets hidden in.

but the zoo has been excluded in the rules in previous years hasn't it?

knit your brows is a Shakesperean coined phrase. Has the meaning of thinking deeply or being puzzled, frowning, etc.

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 2:09 PM Permalink
Terry

No it hasn't.

There was once a zoo on HI.

Well 'too think deep" (I got myself into trouble with that one last year)

BUT- Deep under the snow OR there is really more meaning to the clues than previous years ???

NOTE: I did not read anyones ideas between midnight last night and now-so if I reiterate an idea I am sorry.

Ares..believe me, I've thought of that. Your 10 bucks would be a good wager.

ahh. i stand corrected then. i'd swear i've seen it excluded other than in the clues before though.

Any comment about the old zoo?

So if the clues lead us to a zoo or the river, we know which park along the river not to trek.

aside from not knowing there was ever one there, not really steve.

I think clue #2 is meaningless and they're mocking us for noodling too much.

just looking at how horribly they flow make it seem like theirs some really deep hidding meanings in the clues, but i keep thinking, the first one ONLY TELLS US ITS IN SAINT PAUL, and the 2nd only ONLY TELLS US THAT ITS IN A HAT, and that we must look for it. which would really suck if im wright. i hate when im wright, please make me wrong

Steve- When was there a zoo there? Do you know which years? Being that area gets flooded about every spring, it wouldn't be a good place for zoo animals.

You may knit your brows on this one----You might have to "dig deep" in this spot--dig deep at the library or dig deeper than usual in a certain spot in the snow.

I guess i dont quite understand, how a zoo fits in. but anywho, is it worth anything that "spark" is a type of sled popular in norway??

Clue#1=a large St. Paul park Clue#2=Park consists of hills-I'm imagining a steap area.

This is clearly what I can see from the first two clues-Analyising the history of medallion hunt clues, I conclude that they usually aren't that specific on the first clue- the second clue gives us a little bit more detail of the park but still is general information-we can eliminate parks but we cannot decifer the exact park-this is usually what the clues want to provide-otherwise it would be too simple.

My zoo logic doesn't help figure out the clue writers intentions, but I can't shake this HI exclusion from my thoughts. Each year, some parks are never considered, or at least not really even dug in. Why the concern for the clue-writer? Was it really just an unusual hand shake agreement between the City and the PP - to get the word out to the "dummest hunters" that even if the clues point to Phalen from the get go, not to go to HI?

Enough of this noodling for now...

We're off to get some other life stuff done...and do some early scouting.

See yaz later!

OKIE DOKIE>>>>NOODLE THIS.....Time to kill....a novel by JOHN GRISHAM...seeing there aren't any streets in st. paul named grisham...how about another novel by grisham....perhaps chamber...as in chamber street on the east shore of lake phalen ....i know its deep but....hee hee

Steve - I'm thinking there was some concern of damage to that new park. I hope that park is not off limits for future hunts though.

Often when there's been some renovation or upgrades to parks, the medallion has been placed there. Perhaps it was an agreement to hold off another year.

randy, at this point, its important to remember, that there's no such thing as stretching too far!

Mon, 01/21/2002 - 2:29 PM Permalink
wrightwinger

it was a red plastic cart, not target though. oh its a sled thats almost like a dog sled, but smaller. and people stand on the back of them, and thats how they get around the smaller cities, is walking and pushing, then riding them.

Randi a time to kill was about racial tension and today is MLK day. grisham likes baseball, was a state congresman, and a lawyer

state capital, or baseball field, or by a court house....

Perhaps the zoo was thrown in there to throw us off? The golf courses are a given, but HI is unique and unexpected. So why not take something that is fairly given as being off limits, that is within a park, and put it in there to make us noodle it. It just throws us off the track some. Takes some attention away from the HI aspect...

'twas 459, randy.
