You couldn't see any place to post a message or attach a picture when logged in as the CCM. Which brings up a separate issue. Does anyone know what's up with me2 not being to post pictures in the cache thread?

We should address that with Mark and Tim.

I also couldn't find a browse button in the cachers thread to post a picture.

And perhaps we should renew the CCM account just in case we need it.

Not that we've needed to, but if we do, the pay and activate process here is not yet automated and takes a day or so.

If we need that account, waiting a day or so could be a problem.

Thoughts?

I know that they've been more then generous to us but being that we haven't used the CCM in well over a year and only use the account for policing purposes they might comp us that account once again.

btw Tim, I think I owe you guys $10 for my subscription since I only paid for the CCF folder and me2s account and looked at my bank statement and could only find a paypal for $20 and one for $10. I'll add it to the one I'm gifting this Sunday.

I could pay for that CCM account. I was going to pay for the forum but that was already paid, so let's just go with that. I can pay for the CCM one this evening.

I didn't get off the phone last night long enough to remember to pay for the CCM account. I will get to that today.

Did anyone contact Mark and Tim about the expired memberships being able to see the forum but not able to post? If not, when I get to this later today, I can add that to my email getting them to activate the CCM account.

I just PM'd CM for the password for the CCM account and then he poofed gone.

If someone could provide that password, once this is paid for today, and I get to Tim, I can check if whatever it is he will do works so we can post.

I heard back from Mark. The CCM has been activated now for a year.

No mention of the answer to this that I sent along with the paypal info though.

We discovered that even though this account had expired, we could still see all the folders and discussion threads in the Cooler Crew Fo rum, but could not post or do private messages.

We had understood only paid members would be able to see the main folder and any sub folders. That is a feature we value and in the end, if that were true, it could mean more revenue for Able Minds for posting priviledges during our main hunt and some of the smaller ones we do during the year.

So basically, anyone who ever paid, even though the account has not been paid, can still see and read everything behind the curtain.

Is this something that could be fixed?

I will try to find Tim around and see if we can get an answer.

So the expired member thing was more or less by intention. I wanted to prevent an expired member from posting while still letting them read messages to keep their interest in rejoining as a paying member.

I guess that could present an issue in some cases... Such as yours, people could pay once, never pay again yet still read all the insider information.

I'll have to think about a solution for that.

What if for our main folder, we had a box to check for access that said paid members only or some such thing?

Tim, isn't the expired member status basically the same as a raw registered member? Except that they've paid once? Unless explicitly denied anyone in that state could read anyway, yes?

I'm glad we're talking about this in here so nobody gets ideas elsewhere

Are you here Tim? Any progress on being able to close our doors to expired unpaid members? People are still asking.

Tim, Mikey set up a thread under Premium Forum Folder Features about this issue.

If you read through those few posts, you'll see a reply from Mark that says it was because our Cooler Crew Moderator (CCM) account was accessed as a host.

We didn't say anything about this issue until a participant had figured out the glitch and could see everything but not post.

Mikey is not a host here so I'm confused if it was only the CCM account, there would be no reason for this to have gone public.

And from your response, it appears that what Mark and the head bacon around here have different understandings about how this is supposed to work.

I know you both are going to be busy with all the World Crossing folks setting up shop around here, but if we could get this resolved before too long, that would be super.

When it comes to the code and how things work always take it from the pigs mouth...

CCM being a host would trump the access list and expired status, but I am confirming there is an issue with the regular expired members. Your situation is slightly complex because in general we don't want to restrict expired members from viewing but in your case I agree we have to.

The solution I am looking at doing is when a member has expired and they click into a folder that has private restrictions on it, we'll redirect that user to the payment page instead of letting them into the private area. That would still allow them into areas that anyone can view, but protect the private areas despite any access list entries that currently will allow them in.

Thanks Tim. I figured as much that the pig knew what was going on here.

That bug with expired users getting into private folders should be fixed(mostly). The updated code will check the users membership and if they have expired it will remove them from the paid list.

I have to follow up one most piece of it but the change tonight will catch most of them. It fires when a page of posts loads and checks each author if the are expired. I will also put the same check in the authentication filter which will catch anyone else as they enter the site.
