The population in this area is predominantly of Finnish descent, and I have learned a lot about the Finnish people and their customs just from living here. One of my friends lives at Suomi Location (literally, "Finnish Location") and they still sing some Finnish hymns at their tiny little country church. Many homes have saunas (pronounced sow' (like the pig) - nah. I realized I had really adapted here when I found myself making up Finnish jokes. By the way, Sven and Ole jokes are told her as Eino (Ae-no) and Toivo jokes. Their language is quite different than what I am used to in the land of Swedes and Norwegians. A lot of my teachers in high school (Sibley - West St. Paul) were from this area and probably trained to be teachers at the university here, then went to the big cities to work. Only now do I recognize the predominance of Finnish names my teachers had. The Finns embrace what they call SISU (see-sue) which is a general word for fortitude, determination, persistance, resourcefulness, courage.
They do snow dances to the Finnish snow god, Heiki Lunta, to get enough snow to play in. I think they can stop now. We got another 6" yesterday, for a grand total of 66" in the past 10 days!
I wished my Finnish friend Happy St. Urho's Day and she corrected my pronunciation. She says "St. Oo(as in scoop)rrrrr-hoe", with a decidedly Finnish accent! LOL! I laughed all the way home, trying to say it like she did. I can't begin to pronounce most of their even most basic words.
I grew up with Swedish being spoken a bit at home (my Swedish-born grandmother lived with us) and was used to Valkommen (Welcome) and other words that seemed to have some connection to English. The Finns say Tervetuloa for Welcome. I just don't see the connection.
I hate being 'taken' - I hate fees of any kind - so it takes me longer to sign anything. Now if they said no fees what so ever they woulda been collecting my interest already.
doing my homework --- I am so tired of being nickled and dimed ($100 and $500 to death)
I'll be calling my Waste Management Co next to see what they will offer me to keep me- they billed me $11 over on this bill grrrrrrrr
so I call the guy - after making him wait a couple of weeks .... I ask him about interest rates and stuff like that...he says I called on a great day! "oooh, did I", I say. (ofcourse I did  :eyeroll: ) .... he says they just started an April Madness on loans and that my interest rate will be dropped 1.01 lower than prime (prime at 8.25) then I say something to the fact that I wasn't in a hurry and I woulda signed weeks ago if it wern't for little fees like the flood thing and county filing fees...and that their web-site said no closing costs and how the credit union we were gonna check into claims the same thing... yadda yadda yadda.... he says again "you called on a great day! :eyeroll:   - that April Madness he told me about NOW also covers no closing costs what so ever - that I won't pay for anything - zero
goodness - looks like we'll get our finances in order
weren't you watching the news a week ago? Over in Minneapolis there's a blood testing facility that just dumps it down the sewer. They were questioning the safety of doing that.
Hey Kitch - FYI - My mom is up in Ely right now and she says the guy at the Lodge says Shagwa still has 16" of ice on it! There's no open water anywhere. He says people are still walking all the way across it. They think it's because of all the cold nights way below freezing that aren't giving them a break. He says if the warm weather keeps up they might be looking at the 23rd or 24th this year. :frown: Who would have thought that this would be a late ice out year with an 80 degree temp in March? :eyeroll:
That was weird... I think you've got some serious problems Kitch... must be something running on your computer. I'm not sure how it could mess with your forum posts, but that's not a good sign.
it was impossible for me to delete the post once i did it.
basically everything on the post would bring you to a phishing site.
so I'd highly suggest you install anti-phishing blockers on your firefox or IE to prevent it from happening...I just didn't even notice it when i did it.
Make sure you check your friends list too, if you go to "edit friends" sometimes you will find friends in there you never added, they will have red X's instead of pics by them I think. I checked mine one day and found like 6 of them.

I have another question:
a person goes to the doctor
gets blood drawn for tests
they test it and give you your results back
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE BLOOD? WHAT DO THEY DO WITH IT? WHERE DOES IT GO?

I don't get it - I think ... I don't get it
