What's the deal with Walsh park? On google maps it's across montreal from the police station in highland park. I always thought/still think that's highland park too, but google maps calls it Walsh.
ooooooh Ive been down that alley- I know where that is - one of my favorite Italian villa houses is tucked back in there. windows from the ground up. I was just driving around one day and drove down that alleyway. very cool - but wierd place for a park.
From what I know - the pipes can freeze at any of three points.
1) Coming from the water supply (well or city water) - these are the pipes coming into the house.
2) In a cold area in the house, such as an unheated basement or very cold area under a sink where the wall insulation may be poor.
3) Leaving the house to the city sewer or septic system - these pipes have a larger diameter so I'm not sure if that puts them at less risk, but that would make sense to me.
Outside (buried) pipes are less likely to freeze and break if they are insulated. A layer of snow, falling before temps drop to sub-zero, is a big help - better than years where there is no snow and then the temps drop.
For city water, opening the faucet(s) draws water from outside and keeps it moving. If you are at risk for freezing pipes, and are going to leave water running, call the city and see if they will give you a break on your water bill.
However, if you are on a well system, the pump constantly kicking on may add to the wear and tear of the pump. This can be compounded if the power should happen to go out. A small trickle running out should not tax the septic too bad, unless your septic is already taxed. If unsure, ask your plumber or septic service people.
Some people like to run their dishwasher with sanitize-temp water, late at night, to get some real hot water flowing out before the coldest temps hit. Or wash a load of towels in hot water. In this real cold weather, I do try to make sure I'm running some good amounts of water through the system several times a day. If you are a "yellow - let it mellow" household, it might be worth it on these really cold days/nights to flush more often.
My plumbing guy told me that pipes in a heated basement shouldn't freeze. However, if they are close to a very cold wall, I'd keep an eye on them.
If you are thinking of shutting off the water at the water main, I would call a plumber first and see if you also need to "winterize" the plumbing. There is still water in the pipes and shutting off the water will not keep it from freezing. I think if you are going to stop drawing and draining water, there is greater risk of pipes freezing, and unless the pipes get drained, when they eventually thaw, there will be a big mess.
Having said that, if pipes break, be sure you know where the shut offs are.
I've heard the same as someone posted - helps to leave cabinet doors open under the sinks if the pipes in there would be cold otherwise.
Bottom line - think about what kind of system you are on - and the costs and benefits of the trickle method. Do a little online reading, and if you are unsure of your particular situation, talk to a plumber for advice.
Some of this I know from hard experience. The rest I know from discussions with people who've also learned the hard way.
I don't know the answer to your question but my mom's septic froze on her while she was down here watching the girls last week. One of the elbows froze or something and I know she dind't turn off her heat.
I was trying to show Google street view to a friend. I gave her a link, over IM, to the map location I was looking at, then told her to click on street view. She couldn't see that option on her screen.
So I took her to the street view tutorial, and she could see the tutorial, but then when going back to google maps, she still could not find any link or icon that would let her into street view.
So...what gives with that?
I have Vista, she doesn't. Is that a factor? I can't imagine what else might be keeping her from seeing street view.
Not all streets have been mapped yet. My daughter's street in Cottage Grove hasn't yet and neither have some streets in some western states that I've tried to look at. So if it hasn't been mapped yet, there won't be the "Street View" option.
it could also be if she has updated her software for her browser!! thats about all I can think of I have seen that on my sisters computer! but thats because they have AOHELL!!!
might have something to do with flash player not working right. Or maybe she has her browser settings set to not allow any content. She might have to reset her security settings in Internet Explorer to the default levels. Go to "Tools>internet options> click the security tab and then click reset all zones to default level and try again.
I was helping a friend with some computer stuff today.
One thing we couldn't figure out, and he's asked a lot of people whom he thinks are pretty computer savvy, is why he can't truly access his old Adobe photos anymore. He can bring them up on the screen, see the actual photo, but when right-clicking to save the image (or anything) he gets a message saying its not avaiable (or some such wording).
He said this happened about a year ago and it was not in the midst of some obvious change on his part.
An alternative is if he can see them on the screen, press the "PrtScn" button. This copies the visible screen into your clipboard. Then open an image program (Paint will work) and paste the copied desktop into it, crop the picture part, save as a jpeg.
Sounds like a clip art or photo CD - many people will copy over the clip art CATALOGUE off the clip art CD, but that just copies a thumbnail of the actual image.
Later, when they try to select it for editing, the thumbnail tries to link back to the original image that isn't there - its back on the CD.
Some of these are photos he took on his digital camera. Possibly some are images people e-mailed to him. He restores wooden canoes, so a lot of them are photos of the canoes in various stages of restoration. So now he is looking to retrieve those photos to use them in printed materials, but he can only view the photos on the screen, can't open them. When he right clicks, it just says something to the effect that it can't be opened or its not available. He used to be able to open them, but suddenly that changed for all of them. It does not ask him what he wants to open them with.
I don't think pop spurts out of your nose because of it - usually it takes a good joke to do that...
I've got a TON of snorers on both sides of my family - but no confirmed cases of DEVIATED septum problems. I think most of the time people affected by it have chronic sinus infections and that kind of thing.
Snoring only takes a SOFT septum - which gets worse as we get older because we keep rattling the thing every nite during snore time. I am one of the quietest snorers in my family because I'm a stomach sleeper, and haven't 'rattled the cages' as much as my back-sleeping relatives have.
I'm a stomach sleeper most of the time too -didn't associate it with not snoring. huh
I just watched The Heartbreak Kid with Ben Stiller & his dad (rated R for many reasons-do NOT let your kids see this, whitney had watched the first 10 minutes before I realized the rating and the words and the sex!! - with out giving too much away, Ben really gives men a bad rap in this flick- wow, major jerk in the end!...I can say with my experience with men....I shoulda saw that coming)
the new wifey had the deviated septum- in theory it was supposed to be funny but I found it painful to watch. She claimed to have gotten it from a cocaine habit (Im sure there are other ways to get it but ::cringe:: owie)
Breathe Rite Strips work great - but you can't wear them EVERY night - eventually your skin will get raw from the adhesive pulling on it in the same place every night.
I have a deviated septum. It sucks. I sniff a lot and always seem to have one half of my nose plugged. I don't snore though. As far as I know. I don't get the milk spurt thing though. It's too high up in the nose to make a difference in how anything comes out of your nose.
I don't think my prob was because of cocaine. My bleeding problem is because of that. my deviated septum was from breaking my nose doing a 3 1/4 flip off of a high diving board. YEOOOCH!

I might get back to you on this question in about 2 days...

We have been told if you leave the water faucets dripping, you put a bunch of strain on the septic system - and you can't get toilets to drip anway.
Of course, if you're on city sewer, that makes a difference with the faucets.
1) Coming from the water supply (well or city water) - these are the pipes coming into the house.
2) In a cold area in the house, such as an unheated basement or very cold area under a sink where the wall insulation may be poor.

Any thoughts on what to try?
An alternative is if he can see them on the screen, press the "PrtScn" button. This copies the visible screen into your clipboard. Then open an image program (Paint will work) and paste the copied desktop into it, crop the picture part, save as a jpeg.
I'm starting to wonder if he just needs to reload the Adobe program that came with his digital camera and then upgrade it?
I don't *think* he's gotten a new computer in the interim, but just so odd that suddenly he couldn't open those photos anymore.
Later, when they try to select it for editing, the thumbnail tries to link back to the original image that isn't there - its back on the CD.
SO, follow this:
1. Double-click My Computer.
   2. Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
   3. Click the View tab.
   4. Put a check by "Hide file extensions for known file types."
   5. Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Do not Show hidden files and folders."
   6. Check "Hide protected operating system files."
   7. Click Apply, and then click OK.
Secondly, let's see if its the preview itself causing the problems.
Inside the affected folders, right click and choose View> List.
Try opening again.
Has this changed anything?
