We didn't have a television until I was 12 so the only cartoon I remember when I was young was Winky Dink and You. I understand Winky made a comeback as a cartoon later, but the original was cool. You could sent for a piece of plastic to stick on the screen and then Winky Dink would use tell you where to draw on the screen to make cool pictures. I was probably a little old for even that, but it was unique for sure.
Any remember Sid and Marty Krofft and all those shows they did? Land of the Lost was just the tip of the iceberg. I know waaaay too much about those shows. I found THAT out doing the interactive Bar Trivia game one time.
you guys are going to make me go in to it AGAIN!!!! I did this for you guys a few months Ago!!! it just gose to show WHO READS MY POSTS!?!?!?!?!?
we were literally just talking about Wonder Woman and the Bionic Woman and the Million Dollar Man the other night. How cool it would be to see them on tv again. thanks Iceman.
If its possible to have fraternal twins by having a mother that has two eggs fertilized at the same time, is it possible that the twins could have 2 different fathers?
Ok Kitch, I've been looking for an hour now and can't find any info on this one.
What is the history of Cable company names in the twin cities? Essentially I'm looking for what cable company offered service to the maplewood area back in the middle 80s.
Two of my friends are each having trouble opening links when I send them.
I suspect they both are not real good at keeping things updated on their computers (kind of your typical came-to-it-late older user) but I'd still like them to be able to get to the links I send!
What things could I suggest they update - or I could go help them with it?
Is this likely to be a browser update issue? Or is there something else I should be looking at first?
It has been various links over a long period of time.
This is one I sent recently to several friends at the same time - only these two people could not open the links - same two people who often can't open links I send.
No, one lady is retired, the other works at home but on her own internet connection. We all have the same high speed internet (cable modem) service through Charter, which is sort of the only choice up here.
They can go to YouTube and view videos. Just can't get there clicking on my links. Once in awhile a link I send them will work. Most of the time, not.
Since I send the same links to multiple people at a time (usually these are related to birding or some local event I want them to have more info about so we can plan to go) and most people have no trouble with the links and these two ladies almost always have trouble, I just wondered if there is some way I can help them troubleshoot this.
Another friend could not get maps to load. I found out she was using Firefox 1.0 or some archaic version like that. That's why my first thought was that maybe these ladies are running an old version of their web browser. However, these ladies, while they do pretty well with their small every day use of their computers, do get the "deer in the headlights" look when I try to talk them through anything - would be better if I just get on their computer next time I'm there and troubleshoot it (with their permission, of course) and thought it would be good to know what else I should check for, especially if a browser update does not do the trick.
Thanks for your thoughtful replies, thus far. Will be interesting to see what solves the problem!
Eags - We use both firefox and IE at work. All the updating is done through the network and we're not to do any of it. Sometimes, what doesn't work in firefox, will work in IE. I suspect that is an issue with either add-ons or slow updating.
Point is - perhaps they could copy and paste the url into IE and see if it works.
One of the ladies did try copying and pasting the URL and it still took her nowhere. When it happened with the first lady, I assumed she just didn't get it. But I think second lady does get how to do this stuff, so then I really started wondering why these ladies are having so much trouble.
Neither of these ladies have any work/network issues involved. The second lady has now confirmed that she has the latest version of Firefox running.
I got her to try it while we were on the phone. She would hold her mouse cursor over the link and it did not underline. When she would left click, it would highlight. Then she would copy/paste it and hit enter but it would not take her anywhere. I went into the sent copy of the same e-mail and was able to click on the link and it worked just fine. I had her double click the link and all it did was highlight, then unhighlight.
I am puzzled. If there is something I can look at - settings or whatever - on their end - I will try to help them get it resolved.
Otherwise, I think I'm just going to have to find some other way to communicate this kind of information to them.
I know it isn't on my end of things, at least I am having NO trouble opening links people send to me, and no one other than these two ladies is having any trouble opening my links, at least not that they have let me know about!
Another thing to look at would be a errant space before/after the period in ".com" (or elsewhere in the link) sometimes it is virtually impossible to see it is there, but the computer doesn't have enough 'sense' to close the gap.
I'm not seeing how it could be the link, since I and everyone else can open it just fine from the same e-mail, yet two people can't get it to "underline" so they can click on the link. Same two people have this problem almost all the time with my e-mails with links. No one else has that problem. This is usually a link to a youtube video (often of wildlife that one or another of our friends has taken) or it may be a link to a newspaper story about an event I think others might want to go to with me. Anyway...it is just puzzling.
That sounds like an e-mail application preference. If they have their e-mail set to basic text, not 'coded' or 'unicode' text, any of those words that generally make a 'link' will just show up as raw text - no formatting or scripting included. Basically 'naked' words and letters - no boldface, no colors, nothing.
Same goes for your outgoing e-mail preferences - you can toggle plain text on/off. If you have only a couple friends out of several that get the exact same message with problems, it is probably on THEIR end (incoming) message that needs to be tweaked.
Thank you, Mad Dach! That is exactly the info I was hoping for. It will give me a place to start when trying to help them tweak their settings. I suspected it must be something on THEIR end. Just didn't know if it was most likely to be an e-mail settings problem, or a browser problem, or what...
I suppose some of them could have been long links.
Why would some people be able to open the exact same link, but others can't? Would there be a setting they (those who couldn't open links) could change so a longer link would work for them?
If that seems like it could be the problem sometimes, I can convert links into tinyurl form and see if that helps.
Doesn't seem all that long. No one else had trouble opening it.
She would hold her mouse over it and it would not underline. When she left-clicked, it became highlighted. If she double-clicked, it highlighted then unhighlighted. If she copy/pasted while highlighted, and put it in her address bar and hit enter, it did not work.

This phenomenon is known as heteropaternal superfecundation.
I think I know someone that this happened to.
I heard that goes on a lot in the Caribbean.

Often if when you send the link, it's the end of a sentence with a period at the end, the link won't work.
Otherwise it could be security settings either in their email or browser.
The links are good, I am positive of that.
