She would hold her mouse over it and it would not underline. When she left-clicked, it became highlighted. If she double-clicked, it highlighted then unhighlighted. If she copy/pasted while highlighted, and put it in her address bar and hit enter, it did not work.

That certainly sounds like the text is not formatted - the cursor highlights the words like it was part of a word processing program, not a potential link.

I strongly suspect her right click / double-click to copy and paste into the address bar does not highlight the WHOLE link. There are TONS of people out there that think a double-click will pick up everything and paste it perfectly. Tell her to click and DRAG the cursor to highlight the WHOLE link before she hits 'copy'. If the link was at the end of the sentence, the extra period at the end of the line may screw it up as well.

Growing up on a Mac with a one-button mouse, double-clicking and click-and-drag are second nature. MANY people that grew up using a two-button mouse method have always used the right-click for copy and paste, have no idea any other way to do it. I STILL have to coach people how to click-and-drag a mouse - even today.

This part happened when we were on the phone last night, and I was trying to make sure she knew how to click on a link to go to a webpage.

I asked her to just hold her mouse over the URL. When she did that, it would not underline, no little hand appeared, so she could not just click on it to go to the webpage.

So, I asked her to left-click once on it. When she did, it highlighted but nothing else happened.

I asked her to click off to the side to get it unhighlighted.

Then I asked her to double-click. She did and it underlined, then un-underlined, so it did not seem to be functioning as a link.

When I send links, I send them as info on their own line, like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7mgI-OoD1Q&feature=related

And it was sitting there, all on it's own, not part of a sentence, no period after it.

In fact, that is the exact link I sent her - I just copy/pasted it out of the sent e-mail.

I agree she could have been copy/pasting wrong, once she got that far - and maybe not grabbing the whole thing.

But I still don't understand why it was not functioning as a link for her when it did for everyone else who received that same e-mail from me. If it had functioned the way it did/does for me, there would be no reason to copy/paste it.

Too bad she has so damn many cats at her house right now (five new kittens) as I am allergic to them, or I would just go over there and try to figure this out with her! I could then even show her the drag part of the trick, which I think might be harder to talk her through on the phone.

Thanks for trying to help me trouble-shoot this! It really does bug me when these two friends can't open links I send them, especially since it is usually a follow up to something they have asked me for more info about, or a link to detailed info about an event we all might want to attend. And the rest of the people getting the same info from me have no trouble with it.

Eags, in my mail options (Tools/Options from my email client, there is a box to check to read all messages in plain text.

If she has something similar and it's checked, the links wouldn't work.

I need to figure out if I have a zip program on my computer, and if I don't have one, I need to download and install one. I know I do not have WinZip, and can't recall installing any other, as I have not needed one until now. I'm trying to send a huge, graphic-intense file for this work project. When they sent me the template, it was in a zip file, and I was able to open it easily.

I use Mozilla Firefox (latest version) as my browser.

In reading about WinZip, I see it integrates with IE, which I don't use (at least not willingly).

I need to learn more and make a decision. Anyone have any advice?

Thanks!

I don't have Windows, but Stuffit is my app of choice for the Mac and seems to work well with my Windows customers. You can download and use Stuffit expander for free. WinZip works, but you pretty much have to pay right away.

On my Mac, the Stuffit Standard trial app still fully works for both compression and expansion. It's supposed to give you a 30 day trial, but it has never locked up! I just keep getting these warnings that my trial period has been expired for 287 days, but nothing else happens. I'm not complaining.

I thought it was built into windows. Right click the file and see if it shows "Send To Compressed (Zipped) Folder"

heh, I saw this yesterday and thought of your hyperlink email problem.

As for a zip program, I use 7zip, it's open source (free) and has a lot of useful features. I also don't really think it's bloatware, installs with a small footprint.

Yes, windows does have native support for zip files, but sometimes you need extra features (I wouldn't know them off the top of my head, but I know there are some).

The built in Windows Zip program should already be inside Windows XP and newer. However, it can not read other compression file types other than ZIP. Some of the original Windows built-in zip software did not even read ZIP files if they were created by another application. REALLY annoying, but most system updates fixed that bug a long time ago.

Other applications (like 'Stuffit') handle many cross-platform file types, like .zip , .tar, .sit and others.

If all you need is to expand THAT file, I would save it OUT of e-mail into 'your documents' or some place like that, then right-click on it to see if it gives you the option to UnZip the file. Trying to UnZip the attachment right out of e-mail doesn't always work correctly .

If I poked fork holes and a line through a potato and then microwaved this said potato but then I forgot about the potato in the microwave overnight, can I still eat it the next day?

Ewe! Why would you ever forget about a nummy potato in the microwave. That's just wrong to begin with.

Not sure if it's still edible or not. You might get some cold symptoms if you do eat it days later anyway. :barf:

Mr. Whipple's name was borrowed from George Carroll Whipple, Jr. a public relations executive at Benton and Bowles, the advertising agency that created the ad. The real Mr. Whipple was paid one dollar for use of his name for a commercial that was to run for six months on the west coast. It became the longest running ad campaign in the history of television.

I'd say his first name is george

a commercial made me hungry but caught my attention

Pizza Hut - those Italian meals...

they claim 3 lbs BEFORE cooking.

arn't noddles heavier AFTER they are cooked?

so why don't they advertise a heavier meal? that would make it seem like you're getting more food for the $.

I could be backwards on this. kitch?

does the food get lighter AFTER it's cooked?

Where can you watch full episodes of "The Big Bang Theory" on the Net?

CBS is a crapshoot at best - 90% of the time they just have 2 min 'clips' of episodes.

its not the noodles...

its the meat that looses the weight
Thu, 05/21/2009 - 9:26 AM Permalink
mrmnmikey

It all depends on what they are weighing at the beginning.

An uncooked noodle is lighter than a cooked noodle because it contains no water. After cooking the noodle absorbs water, and thus more weight because of the noodle weight and water weight. But the final product is actually lighter because before cooking they are weighing the noodles and water, but the food gets lighter because some of the water boils off into steam during the cooking process and goes into the atmosphere, thus losing some of the weight.

At least thats what I think.

or not...

and are you trying to say you are millions of years old?

otherwise that show is new in the last year or 2 isn't it?

what do you mean 'years ago'? or did you just want to say 'deja vu'? :sheepish:

or

Why do I have a Ricks Cabaret on this post from years ago?

odds are you want to list the entire collection on ebay.

My thoughts are this...in Minnesota you won't get much for a Minnesota product...

but here is the list of names you might want to try to contact 1st...

I need a new Air conditioning condenser for my Saturn. I'm kinda kicking myself for not buying one a couple weeks ago, since a lot of local parts dealers have jacked up the price $25 or more. Anyone have an internet auto parts place they trust?

Checker / O'Reilly retail: about $190

NAPA: over $225

Model: 2001 Saturn L200 Sedan - 4 cl. 2.2 liter engine

Compressor pump still works - just need the condenser that goes in front of the radiator. I have a buddy with a vacuum pump that will help me with the install - I just need the part - cheap!

go to checker and tell them that you can get it cheeper at auto zone then have them print you a recpit for that price and then go to auto zone with said recpit and they will beat it by I think it is 20%!!! lol I scam parts that way all the time!! or try Johns Auto in Blane they are a junk yard and have go prices!! but are a million miles away!! and some times you have to go get a few others to find one that works!!!

Sorry I am the king of DIY!!! when it comes to cars!!

Auto Zone is the cheapest of the majors around here, but there are a few dozen out-of-state suppliers that can sometimes undercut them by another $20-30. I'm still looking...

Pep Boys parts search doesn't work for me - I type in the specs, and it bounces over to the map to search for a store location - is that deliberate? Crikey!

I have found prices online at Auto Zone and O'Riely's to be lower than the store's price. Be sure to tell them so and they will give you the internet price.
