Has anyone heard of tying bags of water around to shy away flies?

Does anyone really know HOW this works or IF it works?

any of you try it?

hhhmmmmmm

here are some other peoples answers -

I was on playa "Las Gatas" on Zihuatanejo bay in March this year, and an intienda on the beach had the water-filled bags hanging from the palapa support posts. I had never seen them before, so I asked why. "no flies" was the answer. AND.....there were NO flies.

neal erickson | 09.29.07 - 4:31 pm | #

Gravatar No post has generated so many comments as this one about how bags of water are hung to keep flies away. When I first heard about this practice, I naturally assumed it was mere superstition. But so many people believe in the method.

This raises the question: If it works, *how* does it work?

John | Homepage | 09.29.07 - 8:21 pm | #

Gravatar I lived in Ecuador, I was surprised to see them hanging water in bags to repel flies. I thought they were the only ones that did that. Funny. I don't think it works though.

Britney Holman | 11.26.07 - 6:56 pm | #

Gravatar Of course it works!!!! That is due to the light reflection on the water (Flies' eyes don't like to be bombarded with rays of shinning light)

heheheheh!!!

RU | 01.12.08 - 8:30 pm | #

Gravatar I am mexican, I've seen those bags all my life in all the country, and here everybody use it, it's very common to see them... and I have to say that where are those bags, there are not flies... so... I guess they work...

E | 01.15.08 - 7:15 pm | #

Gravatar Indeed, it seems odd but the hanging of bags filled with water does work. Seen this in numerous cities throughout Mexico and have

no idea how it works. It just does, yet another oddity found in Magic-Mexico.

Adios flies!

andrew | Homepage | 02.16.08 - 7:14 pm | #

Gravatar the bags resemble spiderwebs to the flies so they avoid them. That is what my Grandmother told me. We live in Alaska were the flies and mosquitos get huge. No flies on our deck, lol.

Heather | 03.15.08 - 1:13 am | #

Gravatar A local chicken restaurant here in Texas even uses them. I too laughed when they were explained to me. But they seem to work. I would like to meet the person responsible for coming up with such an idea.

Anonymous | 04.12.08 - 12:26 am | #

Gravatar I've seen this all over Mexico; however, I've always been told (and could smell) the bags are filled with rubbing alcohol. This makes more sense to me. And it does work.

GC | 04.15.08 - 1:06 am | #

Gravatar THe water works because of the effect it has on the flies vision. It distorts their vision so much that they avoid them.

Anonymous | 05.08.08 - 6:02 pm | #

Gravatar Would it work to repel mosquitoes too? I hope so!

Because of other responsibilities asked of the person I was going to go with I now have an extra suite ticket to go see Michael W. Smith at the Xcel the following Saturday the 3rd. The question I have is who you guys think I should take. My boss, my mom or my daughter? It's Ali's birthday this week and it would be nice to take her to a concert next week to still help celebrate her birthday although she doesn't know any of his music. My boss is very religious and the seats are in our work suite. Michael Smith is part of the KTIS anniversary celebration which is a religious station. My mom, while also religious, may not know as many songs of his as my boss but then again she's my mom. I'm not into him at all and was going for the person I first asked who can't go now. So maybe I could just have my mom and Ali go without me. Either way it'll help build my relationship with either my mom, daughter or boss by taking one of them to this event. Thoughts on who and why?

Thanks all

We could have a sin-a-long!

Heaven's just a sin away, oh oh just a sin away

I can't wait another day, I think I'm giving in

How I long to hold you tight, oh oh be with you tonight

But that still don't make it right, cause I belong to him

Oh way down deep inside, I know that it's all wrong

But your eyes keep tempting me, and I never was that strong

Devil's got me now, oh oh gone and got me now

I can't fight him anyhow, I think he's gonna win

Heaven's just a sin away, oh oh just a sin away

Heaven help me when I say, I think I'm giving in

[ fiddle ]

Oh way down deep inside...

I think I'm giving in

I think I'm giving in

Does ANYONE know or use any of these companies and have any feedback for me? or use any other trading companies?

Most of these trade at $9.99 a trade - does anyone have a lower deal?

Kitch? anyone?

$10 a trade is OK. No other fees based on transaction amount? Do you have to keep funds in a moneymarket account until you want to make a trade?

yes - a money market account in between. I didnt see any fees for pulling money from a stock

They might be cheaper trades than Fidelity or Charles Schwab, but I like Fidelity the best, then Schwab.

And they usually have free trades for 30 days if you open an account. And when I did my rollover some of the mutual funds and stock was switched over in kind, meaning you don't have to sell it and buy new. I'd ask question before you do anything. Different funds transfer different. There's a fidelity office by bestbuy on Radio Dr and 94.

http://ezinearticles.com/?Best-Brokerage-Firms&id=309801

They agree, Fidelity, heres their results:

And the results – Fidelity, TradeKing, and Merrill Lynch as the three #1’s. Next to Fidelity in the honor as “Premium Broker” are E*Trade, Charles Schwab, Banc of America Investment Services, TD Ameritrade, WellsTrade, and Vanguard. Vanguard, as explained by Smart Money came last because it caters to fund-investors instead of stock-investors.

TradeKing grabbed “Best Discount Broker” although it is only a new-entry discount broker. Following the lead are Firstrade, OptionsXpress, Muriel Siebert, Scottrade, ThinkOrSwim, and WallStreet*E.

In the “Best Full–Service Broker”, Merrill Lynch is tagged-along by SmithBarney, Edward Jones, A.G. Edwards, Wachovia, Morgan Stanley, and UBS. Merrill Lynch replaced last year’s first-place Edward Jones because of the latter’s below-average stock–picking. Other special determinants used by Smart Money for their “Best Full–Service Broker” aside from the brokerage firm’s stock-picking are customer satisfaction and trust and statements.

I saw on the news a few weeks back a website to get a free credit report with no strings attached. however, I cannot remember it now.

I don't want to go through Freecreditreport.com cause there is a catch with fees.

Where can I get a real reputable FREE credit report?

from Google: AnnualCreditReport.com is the ONLY authorized source to get your free annual credit report under federal law.

you guys are terribly funny

unfortunately I don't have a choice in this matter. I have to clean everything up. I have great credit to begin with so hopefully it won't damage me for too long. I also can't have too much outstanding empty balances or eventually they won't give me credit due to too much open either where I could travel the world a few times around and then never pay it back.

Question:

I have not been able to find Eggo® waffles in the store. When will they be available again?

Answer:

Kellogg Company recently experienced supply constraints caused by flood damage at our bakery in Atlanta. In addition, we've been making significant equipment enhancements and repairs in our largest waffle bakery. Unfortunately, this is taking longer than anticipated.

The Eggo™ team is working around the clock to bring everyone's favorite waffles back to store shelves as quickly as possible. We hope to regain full distribution of Eggo products by the middle of 2010. This is a top priority for Kellogg Company.

I saw them at Target yesterday. Just happened to see the name Eggo in the case. Do they make something other than waffles?

I looked today when I was at Rainbow and didn't see waffles, but there was something in the freezer case - I think french toast - with the Eggo name on the package.
