I was very surprised, last time I was in town, to see Famous Dave's on Robert Street not only not in business but torn down! When that place was Ten Acres (not The Acres) it rocked. That was back when the Corral Drive-in Movie Theater was kitty-corner from Ten Acres. A simpler time, and although we were in the midst of a cultural revolution, still far more innocent. I miss those days. Wishing I could go back to this day in 1967 and know what I know now. But...I digress...
I knew it as Mac's Drive In in the late '50's, early '60's. Ah, good times.
I drive that intersection at least once a week and haven't even noticed the building was gone! I'm worried about my observation skills. Maybe I should turn in my keys.
I've noticed quite a few things that have changed (when I come back to the cities) and when I mention it to the locals, they haven't noticed it yet. So you are not alone, OT. Either that, or there are a LOT of people who should turn in their keys! LOL
I'm having computer problems and cannot post pictures from my laptop or home computer sooooo just imagine lots of balloons with helium for yah! and a cake with a goat on top!
Dear Kitch, or anyone who might know how to troubleshoot this problem. I am friends with a young widowed mom (here in Michigan) who needs help troubleshooting a garage door problem. She is pretty handy but wants to make sure she isn't missing some obvious fix before calling someone.
Here is her description of the problem:
The garage door goes up either about a foot or about four feet and then just stops. i thought it was hanging up on the screw/worm gear because it hadn't been greased in a while, maybe the resistance was enough that it was tripping the contact switch on the motor, but that didn't work, and neither did greasing the wheels on the track or the pulley axles. i've checked it up and down and can't find anything for it to hang up on, both while it was down and while it was stuck partially up. it comes down just fine, just won't go up.
The suggestions she has received (and tried) were:
Check the spring across the top. It will be obviously broken in two pieces if that is the problem.
Another thing, check the electronic eyes at the bottom of each side. Kids, snowblowers, lawnmowers, etc. can push them out of alignment. Just turn the little thingies to get them to face each other and try the door again.
She checked both of those and neither seem to be the problem.
If she ends up needing to call someone, I will check with some people near here so we can refer her to someone who will be fair and honest. She is relatively new to the area, lost her husband, then their baby was born a short time later, and she is still reeling from the shock of everything, so I'd like to help her minimize the stress of working through this problem.
Yup - Pull the track release and run it until it catches where it should. It might be catching in a different area of the chain.
Look at the springs. If there is a line that's straight across it's unwound. The lines need to be swirled around the coil to show that they are wound up tight. Maybe she just needs a recoiling of the springs if they aren't broken. It could be the coil end that is either broke or loosened up.
I'm wondering if there is a way to go back and find news articles relating to the medallion hunt from like either 1969 or 1962. I was just told a funny story about my dad and was hoping to find the article that was refered to. Basically my dad called in sick to work and went out medallion hunting and then the next morning his picture was shown (front page or maybe second page) hunting for the medallion. I'd love to see if I could find this.

While driving, I like to try crushing fenderbergs on the road. It is easier and more sporting than kicking fenderbergs off a vehicle, especially if moving.
unfortunately, the sand has settled under the front axle area of the floor, and along with it, the concrete. as a result, we get a lake that periodically needs to be swept out into the driveway.
Maybe it's a safety thing. The building officials in this sate thought they needed to prevent a car from rolling out of the garage if it wasn't put in park before getting out?
Kind of like the warning on a coffee cup.........Hot liquid in cup.
As long as we are asking Kitch about operating systems, exactly what is so wrong with VISTA? I have 64 bit version with 4 meg of RAM and it works just fine. Is the problem with the 32 bit version or not enough memory?
As far as vista goes. I'm quite surprised it's working ok for you. I don't think the 32 vs 64 bit has much to do with it. But if you say it's working, that's fine I guess.
Windows 7 is actually pretty decent. It runs solid (assuming you have decent hardware specs).
I often wonder if all the Vista bashing is just people jumping on the bandwagon. Seems all anyone says is that it's a crummy operating system, but never what the issues are.
From what I have heard, most complaints were from people with too little memory..........in their computer.
64 bit version with 4 gig RAM beats the heck out of my XP machine.
See now I heard that when Everyone was using it that it was So much better then XP And with my experiences with it! I thought it had a few little hick-ups but nothing to BIG!
Our Vista machine takes 5-8 minutes just to start up every Monday, and we don't have ANYthing automatically active on it. The only program it gets used for is the UPS shipping software. When it starts up it seriously reminds me of how slow the old 68k Macs were when they booted up.
I'm glad to hear it's working for you. It's a crap shoot. But the story behind the "bashing" is that MS released a alpha product as if it's was ready to go. When people started getting it on their systems there were many, many blue screens of death and other various bugs. By the time MS got around to fixing the OS through patches, the horse had left the barn and no one wanted to take Vista. They were forced to support XP much longer than originally planned as their large business customers were refusing to take the risk with all the issues. Personally I haven't played with Vista recently so I can't say if it's gotten better. I have used windows 7 and it's not bad. But MS still has the issue, and is being sued because, of allowing hardware vendors to list their hardware as "Certified" based on meeting the most minimum OS requirements. There is a Windows 7 basic that was intended for netbooks, but that flopped, but many hardware manufactures listed their hardware as Windows 7 certified. When people tried to use the "normal" ie Windows 7 Home edition it won't work. I think MS is fading fast, but they still have a strong hold in some major areas. I think they are still trying to figure out what they want to do. They lost the MP3 player market and pulled their original Windows smart phone before re-releasing an update recently. They are also losing money from the Office brand as people move to Open Office and Google Documents which is free.
So in short,, it's not just bashing, but MS is in trouble.

Thanks for any help anyone can suggest!
If it binds, the problem may be with the track, door, or springs.
If not, it's most likely a problem with the door operator.

The downtown library has old papers on microfilm. easy access. only 25 cents to print it. I charge $10 to do it - let me know

I felt Vista didn't have much to offer. I liked XP.
Also, I HATE WINDOWS 7 STARTER. Talk about a rip off! OMG!!!!
So, what is there besides Windows on a computer for a start menu and desktop?
you can't play certain games on todays computers!
