Got this e-mail this morning:

There was a small solar event on April 8, 2010. The effects of this event

should reach Earth sometime late on the 10th or early on the 11th of April

UT. This means auroral activity early Sunday morning in Europe and late

Saturday night in the US. If not then, Sunday night should be active. There

is some disagreement on when the shock should arrive. We try to be early

rather than late, so keep watching. We expect index 4 or active.

Here's a page that shows the different strengths of Northern Lights displays:

http://www.gedds.alaska.edu/AuroraForecast/Interpreting.htm

Tonight's is supposed to be a 4 so should be visible at least on the horizon in the twin cities (if you can get away from city lights, all the better). I think they will be hoppin' up here where I live and the skies are clear right now, so that would be soooooo awesome!

I think Terry and Inks and Donna and Buzz should be able to see them overhead.

Well, sometimes you can see them in the cities even with the light pollution. Just depends on how strong they are. I saw them from Baker playground one evening - very rare to see them at dusk, but we did.

Mags woke me one night when I was living on Emerson in WSP. This was around 3PM. We sat on the front steps until almost daylight watching probably the most amazing display I've ever seen.

And one other time, but this was around Brainerd while camping, we watched them until daylight made them impossible to see anymore.

I've only seen them a couple of times up here. You'd think I'd see them more often, being this far north. But I don't think they've been all that active in recent years.

Supposedly, increased activity is expected to be returning. But I've heard that before, too.

Yup. In the last few years, there has been very little aurora activity due to solar minimum. We are seeing increased activity recently and much activity in Alaska. I got another email with photos today of activity last evening. The person talked about laying back on the snow to watch the display. Before much longer, they won't be able to view activity as they begin having daylight 24 hours a day.

I'm right next door to a shopping mall and all it's Halogen-enhanced brilliance glowing up the sky. Makes snowstorms look cool at noght, but can't see diddly-squat for stars most of the time.

I'm going to hop on the train and go to Target Field this afternoon. Should be a good day for people watching. I went to the second exhibition game last week and had a great time. I'd better pack an umbrella.

so in other words, the hen party at your place that night, the men party at cluey's?

looks good. i might even believe it as a man cave.

and then i saw the particular frame from the movie on the telly.

um. ok.

that makes it very difficult to separate the hen party from the men's party. just sayin'.

in other news, i found out that i'm very distantly (and across a marriage, so its really distant) related to sven sundgard. turns out my grandfather's uncle's wife (all three of whom are no longer with us) is his great aunt, or something like that. the part up until "uncle's wife" i'm certain of, its just traversing down that family tree that i'm not sure of. i figure ot would appreciate that one.

Your grandfather's aunt is your great aunt and she is also Sven's great aunt, so that makes you third cousins once removed (or something like that).

Reminds me of the time I pee'd in Josh Harnetts yard - "just because he lives there"....

we were also drinking at a friends house, right down the street, but thats besides the point.
Wed, 04/14/2010 - 5:39 PM Permalink

Well, that's just a technicality. You call the wife of your blood uncle your aunt, don't you? If you look at a family tree, spouses are on the same line as the blood relative with the children of that marriage connected below that line. It's two different things, blood lines and related by marriage. But both are valid relationships.

Sven's brother dated my son-in-law's parents neighbors daughter for a while. I pumped gas across from him once at a station in CG.

my cousin dated Josh's 1/2 brother

and because she was dating him, they went to dinner in New York at a restaurant that Bono was having a party at. They came down the stairs and Bono said hi to Josh and introduced her as her brothers girlfriend. How cool of a night that musta been.

and my hair dresser cut Josh's hair when Pearl Harbor came out

so his hand that touched him have touched me!

OMG! it's not as gory right now but I'm watching Animal Planets "River Monsters"!

fish that swim up your penis (if you have one) and fish that eat you inside out!

The guy went to the morgue near the Amazon River on a Monday because most people are brought in dead from the river because they drink over the weekend and then go swim in the Amazon and can't get the man eating catfish off of themselves and die. ITS INSANE!!!

now they are on to the United States! yikes! Looks like there are 5 fish to look out for here!

I remember Mr. Ferlack talking about dating Loni Anderson when he was in high school. Those of you who went to Park know that he taught photography and headed the yearbook committee. Lucky bastard!

Oh and BTW - your hairdresser is about as gay as they come me2 - so don't get too up in arms about this sissy boy touching your scalp. :sheepish: I think he was happier touching mine :ooh: :sheepish:
