I watched it for the first time and even if I wanted to I couldn't give you a spec of details. Other than one guy's a quarterback and another's named billy bob or something.
With everything being 2 way i.s. Internet and Phone 99% of the time we know it's happening before customers do. We dispatch maintenance techs as soon as we see it. My overnight team tried to keep reaction time to about 2 minutes from outage to page. Then it's just a matter of the tech getting to the node and then finding/fixing the problem.
When it's a small area and something like a video issue that only one person reports there might be a small outage that we have no way of detecting until a tech is onsite to get levels at the tap. Of course we work to fix that asap too.
Honestly we work to keep people up. I can't stand to lose service even if I'm not activly using it. I tend to think the same way for customers.
Oh boy, I don't even know where to start on all this.
FWIW: Nothing has been finalized. The moderators are discussing this. Also note that TMK is an official moderator, but we created a thread that he is not currently part of. I felt it best that he be removed from this one subject for a bit because of his closeness. to the issue. No other moderators have protested this fact.
I have mixed emotions. My original reaction was to ban him, and I did. After further thought, I believe what Nick did wasn beyond or realm so to speak.
For example, if one of our members is over at the "WOT Reborn... Again" thread harassing people, I don't give a rats ass. That has nothing to do with the cooler crew threads. As a matter of fact, I've always been quite liberal with the happenings in the "In the news" threads within the Cooler Crew. I've always felt that we're adults, and can take care of ourselves.
Now, that being said, we have no official rules here, and never really have. It seems we're making them up as we go, and I feel like a jackass for that. I think if myself and the other moderators had gotten more involved in this earlier, we could have headed it off. However, I was thinking this was a private matter and unless I was affected, I stayed out of it. So I guess we need to make some sort of rules.
That brings us to who decides the rules? Is it the moderators, or the cooler crew at large? I don't know.
Thab brings up another question, who should the moderators be.
Some people aren't even aware, but ares, myself, TMK, OTiS, Terry V, Kitch and Clue Master are the moderators.
Trouble is, it was me (with some input from Terry V) that picked this group. We thought it represented the cooler fairly enough without making the group too large. What I'm leading to here is, is this the best group to be moderators?
So, I'm probably raising more questions than I'm answering.
After all that babble I want to say, my opinion is, Nick should be given another chance, just as we've always given people another chance.
Nope, AT&T here. I think what happened is that one time my cable got all fuzzy so I called and they said my cable was rubbing on my garage roof so they moved it over and now it's stretched or some such thing.
At least you had an excuse. You were a hick from Minnesota. This guy lived in Manhattan!
anyways...i'm done.
I hope it's over too G!

I'm so sorry, Jane...
it took a lot more than 16 hours with jake though, thx. i still stand by what i've said: out.
I'm really not all that stern. I have a huge sense of fairness, and that's why this "job" is so stressful for me sometimes.
none of this is funny for me. i'm sorry but it's not.
Why is that?
Because we are all human.
We are all different.
Shit happens.
Treasure hunting gang. Thats is our common bond. Beyond that welcome to the world of society.
We don't have a code for that either.
I won't go into why who was and wasn't chosen
Suffice it to say it wasn't just me that picked the moderators.
