'Thinking' was used a second time in the newspaper version and the PioneerPlanet.com\WinterCarnival site. 'Linking' was used on the TwinCities.com\WinterCarnival site. Who knows what's correct. I tend to believe the TC.com site because of verbiage but it is sponsored by PP, so who knows.
I just thought I would ask, because me and 4 of my friends were just out there looking. We though that Duel could mean twice, referring to last year, as in twice in a row, and also, "Dig elsewhere and you'll find infinitum" could possibly mean that if you dont look there, you'll be lookin 4 ever. "Last year at Newell, our fate was most cruel, Unfortunately the game ended too soon, Come now...." My friend Dan was saying that it could mean that since it ended so soon last year, that they wanna continue it again, at the same place. Lemme know your thoughts.
I've been up for a long time and i'm finally starting to get somewhere. Heres is my present analysis. I am now leaning towards "Town Square Park". I'm sure you are thinking "Where is that?". It's a park in downtown at Minnesota and E 7th. It's a small 2 acre park. Here is how I think it fits the clues.
Clue 1: "...prepare to be bold..." How much bolder can you get when you pick a new park?
"...secret item..." I'm still convinced that it wont be a traditional medallion, possibly going back to the chest used in the 50's
"...place for gold..." Backing up my last comment that it will be made of gold
"...searcg infinitum..." Now, i'm still unsure as to whether or not this is a word! I looked it up, and all that came close was ad infinitum, which is Latin (for all you latin gurus) for without end or limit. It could be nothing, just telling us to look in the right place.
"...much tougher duel..." Not sure how that fits, could be nothing, but you can't get too much out of the first clue. Or can you?
"...toes...hunt until june..." That's something important! why not april or august? What major events happen in June? Maybe the park inquestion has something big happening in June? It could be the wedding reference, who knows.
Clue 2:
"...hunt in our wonderful town..." Hmmm... Town Square Park... connection possibly?
Clue 3:
"...Circular Thinking...way of thinking..." Town Square Park has a Carrousel!
"...lies out of view..." It is lying out of view... Meaning it's not just plopped in the snow! It's under a bench, brick, rock, etc.
"...bank account..." Well, the chamber of commerce is right across the street!
That is my little analysis of the clues at hand. If it is fact in Town Square Park, remember who called it first! ME! not you or cousin phil or mary-jo ME! Anyway, i'm a little tired and grumpy (can ya tell?) Let me know what you think at my sites message board. www.medallionhunt.8k.com
Town Square is an interesting thought - I remember someone who thought it might be there a couple years back. I dunno, I just don't see it being put INDOORS.
Oh, and the carousel has been out of there for years.
As for the clue - "Linking" makes it flow SO much better, but the official PP site is still showing "Thinking" - bummer.
Not feeling too hot today, but can't really waste a sick day to stay home and rest. It may come to that later in the day though: bad cough, fever, chills, just NO FUN. I'm gonna need my rest if I'm to get out there and DIG in the next few days!
Town Square Park is kinda outta the question, good thought though, You do know that Wells Fargo has bought out all of the trade center, right? thats why all the stores and restaurants closed up, thats only in the trade center though, not town square. Town Square park is going to be closed soon too...infact, i think it already is, they keep blocking off the escalators in there, and the carousel you mentioned....it hasnt been there for a couple years man, it was moved. I dont know where to though....i did know, but i forgot, ill get back to ya with that info.
There is still two versions of the clue up. One from the link at the top of this page and a different one from the link on the front page of the planet. I like the linking version better as it makes more sense.
I remember digging at Phalen one year with a linking clue. We were near a fence at the time with those chain links.
Just a note on the linking/thinking debate. The paper I picked up last night was the Minnesota edition. My metro edition at the office this morning still has thinking twice. If it is a typo, it wasn't caught between editions.
My 2 cents, I think the clues point to the savory coin to be in a hockey puck, and possibly at Newell again with the 2 ice rinks (link = rink) As for the bank account line, no idea. But it looks like many are still swaying back and forth between parks, does anyone have a top 3-5 list? As for me I am off to Newell to try and place it all together. Anyone with insight on the banking line?

morning folks. i have got to stop staying up to catch the clue. i literally had to scrape myself out of bed this morning. find something circular, or perhaps a street xxxxxx circle (don't know if there are any beyond holcombe), you're in the right park, and the treasure is just out of view of it. i'm probably sounding way too incoherent. i'm not fully awake yet.

Well for what's it worth I just called the local office for TwinCities.com to see what was up...just caught the guy walking in the door and he hadn't heard about the linking/thinking thing...said he would take a look at it...even though it rhymes better than thinking twice, it seems like the PP should be the correct version? Oh, by the way, I haven't seen the # you can call to get the update on whether or not it's been found yet, does anyone have it?
If anyone wants to join the chat at my site to talk realtime, come to www.medallionhunt.8k.com I also have past clues and hiding places at my site in the "Clue Central" section of the site. The chatroom DOES NOT req. registration
I'm curious about the idea of the object of our quest not being the traditional medallion. Notice PP calls this the 50th TREASURE hunt rather than a MEDALLION hunt. And the first clue's reference to "the place for gold" makes me think of a treasure chest, not a blue puck. Whadda ya think?
hey clue master

Sup DD?
What do you guys think about Newell?

There have been a few pointing that direction too because of your thoughts exactly but many others sound like Capitol Mall for various reasons.
Ieem atta ear. Check post 12321 for tonight's recap. SCD's to all and to all a good night. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The guide has school tonight, he may not be around until after 9.
I am teaching tonight so won't be here until after the McGovern's thing. I can't imagine how much slogging there will be to do.
Yo!
Green, I'll catch up with ya at the workplace.
But first, I gotta put makeup on my face!
Hiya Ter, and all Coolerphiles!
Mom, please feel better!!! Fast!
P.S. Ter, when I got here this morn, there were over 1200 posts! I can't possibly slog them all, unless of course . . . . . I get sick at work!
Later!

Twincities.com now hays the double thinking...so I'm thinking it's thinking!
Maybe it is all part of the plan...
Clue 3 is referring to a slide, right?

Just a thought- circular thinking one way of thinking- round rink(there a two rinks) -"View"- cross street at Palace.
Hiya, Frostbite!
Guide... I FORGOT to get two books!!!!! (smacking self in forehead) Will you be at The Conservatory and/or McGovern's tonite????
Well, I *had* it when it was the old way: thinking/linking; but THIS makes no sense to me: thinking/thinking...
Tho, duel/dual/twice does come to mind...
I had the #3 all "aced" as circular linking = an 8... And then you go down to "figure" and you've a figure 8! Skating!
See? They did it again! I get The Clue right, and they change it! Just like when they moved it from Phalen last year 'cuz I was the only one there...
Hi,
I don't want to change the subject of circle thinking, but circular advertising comes to mind.
hav'nt seen anything in the clues about a st. paul park is where you must go.st. paul is the place, ma bey not a park this year.
what are your thoughts on where it could be steve
Hay, Maureen! Gonna be at The Conservatory and/or McGovern's tonite? Hope you and Steve will Bee!
Hi Green,
I can't, I have plans with my kids. Hope to see ya at the dig.

Is it "circular thinking can be one way of THINKING or LINKING"?
THINKING
Jakey... Double thinking. No linking.
