Como is my pick if I'm in top 5 for park picks.

heck I'm even ok with como.

I will admit I'm curious to see where they place it.

With everyone wanting it to be at BC I can see the writer tossing a nasty slide out there to make us think and wish it was at BC only to find ourselves standing in Como at clue 11.

I should go look in BC now. Maybe me2's dream will come true.

holy crap...

97 new messages, since I was up in here last...

what?

Did the hunt start already? whats going on?

and whats all this talk about Como?

Im skipping all further messages that mention that place.

Its not a park, anymore...

as the self appointed "King of deciding whats a park and whats not", I've ruled that Como is just...

ummm..

some land.

some land, that once was a park.

nothing more.

mrmnmikey

Can we put the word "Como" on the naughty list here? Have it replaced with "some land, that once was a park" or something?

Moderators????

Help??

We think the med was probably hidden last night, too. Next year we should each get assigned to a different park, and on a night that it's snowing during the week before the hunt starts, we scope out the med hider!

That is certainly a good logical reason there Ares.

I know people dont like that it always ends up there, but after muck raking tons of history about the place, it's so rich of things that can be used as clues - it really is a good choice.

ares

how about mordor?

or maybe we could liken certain parks to the various levels of hell?
Tue, 01/17/2006 - 12:22 PM Permalink
ares

ironically, i think it ends up there so often just because of the sheer size of como and the wide variety of places, landmarks, etc. makes cluewriting easy (especially when you stretch to a school 3 blocks away from the far edge of the park). by that same logic, battle creek should have had it a lot more than it has. but then again, there isn't a whole lot to landmark by there.

Love4Vino

how about omoc?

frogpond place FP?

this is a little mean.. think if we came up with a new name for it - and then went to the PP site where people aren't from here, and we all referenced that park as the new name.

say - BobLand or something.

That I think in itself would drive people nuts.

ooohhhh....I like it....

frogpond = greatwaters

greatwaters = frogpond

I just have beef with the place, because it tried to defeat me and make me retire from hunting....

Like I said... Ive already ruled on it... its no longer a park... hide it there, if they feel they must... but then the hunt becomes un-official, in this land of make-believe that I rule over.

Love4Vino

I still wish they'd hide it back at Harriet.

Hunt 2003 - I was certain it was there, so sad to see it at como.

The zoo clue everything. bummer.
Tue, 01/17/2006 - 12:33 PM Permalink
Wicked Nick

yeah...

I think we all thought it was there at some point or another....

I'll never forget that night down at the paper, when all of a sudden EVERYONE knew that Harriet had been wrong, and Como was in...

we were standing there like "Uhh... what do we do now?!?!"

Its not funny.

seriously...

no, really...

stop laughing.

I remeber being down town at PP when clue 11 came out. Some one yelled "It's at como" and ran out and every one just ignored him thinking what an ass. Then we got our paper and read the clue! OH NO! COMO!

I'll never forget the mad rush as it descended on the woods across from the carvings.
Tue, 01/17/2006 - 12:39 PM Permalink
ares

i'll never forget the caravan out 6th street, onto 94, and up lexington to the park.

mrmnmikey

That parked filled up fast! Cars up and down both sides of the street! The sound was awsome as the crowd all hit the woods at the same time it seemed. Every one scrambling for a place to dig. All the lights moving etc. Unreal!

I remember you calling me with the clue Ares. I was in my car, heading out when you told me it was at Como. I had to figure out in my head real fast the quickest way to Como. I got there pretty quickly, then got to see the people come in and try to find parking, then go running into the woods.
Tue, 01/17/2006 - 12:43 PM Permalink
mrmnmikey

People parking and running to the woods.
Tue, 01/17/2006 - 12:43 PM Permalink
Wicked Nick

haha..

we were in that caravan...

I think we almost died, trying to find a place to park too.... we slid about 2 feet away from a telephone pole out there....

also scared some old ladies that tried to jack a parking spot, that we were trying to back into.....

as soon as we got out of the car, and the carload of them saw that it was two guys in clown paint, they all started screaming hysterically and took off, as fast as they could.....

I still wonder what ever happened to them...

Med2k

That was the greatest ever. The stream was turning left onto Horton while people were still getting on 94 from downtown, like one big parade.

Lots of people pulled over for speeding too.

That had a very clue #12 feel to it.
Tue, 01/17/2006 - 12:44 PM Permalink
Love4Vino

almost seems like it would be worth it to drive a motorcycle on a night like that (too cold tho) just for the benefit of easy parking.
Tue, 01/17/2006 - 12:46 PM Permalink
Wicked Nick

and that next morning....after we had been out, and hadnt stopped home for probably 2 days or so, we ran into Trent...

we were on our way to get grub at white castle, put on new paint, and then go back....

I think the conversation was something like this:

him: Hey! Clowns! whats up guys? You guys just get here?

us: nah... we been out for 2 days straight, and been here for like 15 hours.... we're going to get food, change clothes and whatever, and then we'll be back...

we ended up only taking, maybe an hour, tops.... and he was in the same spot, when we got back, giving us some weird look, like "damn, those guys are crazy"...

My kids were out there that night. I knew Frozen Buttox from the Pioneer Press Board but had never met her in person yet. I'm oldtimer over there. All of a sudden they hear someone yelling, "Oldtimer! Are you here?" It was FB. One of my sons was standing right beside her and told her oldtimer was his Mom. The kids thought I must be famous or something and wanted to make up T-shirts that read: I Know Oldtimer :pbpt:

Remember the night I picked you up to go to Harriet Island during Frozen Buttock's hunt? We were going to meet up with outta and got stuck waiting for a train on Plato. I know Lil wanted to jump out of the car and run down there, but he was gentleman enough to stay with me. We got to HI and there was Outta sitting along in the middle of the playground really late at night! All by herself.

Then we kept finding these doggie biscuits and thought we were on to something. Redbear and TC came along and we didn't tell them about our biscuits. But it turned out they were finding them too!

I had fun that night.

Mr. Med Hunter

The 2006 Rules were on the back of the "daily Life" section of the Pioneer Press today. Harriet Island is out again this year. The trip is no longer part of the prize and it looks like only published clues and online printouts are allowed this year. I have the 2006 Rules on www.wintercarnival.8m.com.

When you send in your registration you're eligible for a trip. Is that new this year? Did they just move the trip to the drawing?
