For the record, I don't like it either.

I'm kind of 6 of one half a dozen of the other on this idea.

It's an excellent idea to keep noodles from being repeated ad nauseum, but it has to be very strictly monitored and I don't know if anyone will have time to do that. All it takes is one "well how does it relate to clue 3?" question and then we're talking about clue 3 in clue one's thread and the dogs will be off and running.

tim's idea of just post your noodle and get out is a good one, but then there's no real discussion about it, and that's the whole point of noodling.

thing is....the shoot the breeze thread was created for whatever, and the hunt thread was created for the hunt, yet the second the hunt thread for 2006 was created, everyone went there to discuss whatever as well, and we just keep creating more and more threads to discuss non-topical things. when i wanted to post my logo idea, i did it in 3 threads. i could've done it in more, but i got sick of posting the same thing and i'm sure people get sick of reading the same thing.

so....point is....there would need to be a fool proof method to keep it on task. or rather, a cooler proof method.

You're exactly right! We're all bad at keeping on topic. I wonder if there was a way to just have it as read only and have someone just post the bullets like ATH used to do all the time?

Artemis was kind enough to provide us with the daily updates.

That would work. I usually do that type of thing on my own and keep it on my desktop in a word file. I liked how she did it.

Does that mean that Mikey is volunteering?

LOL

That must have been before you made it into the invitational.

Or I simply missed adding you, which was known to happen.

You have access now

Did you find the keys JT?
Fri, 01/13/2006 - 7:06 PM Permalink
THX 1138

No keys to the house, just to the shed.

Those that had a separate access list, such as the invite threads, and "In the news".

I don't know that I could keep up with it this year with school and all. In the past I've been on vacation. I'll think about it though.

You would definitely be appreciated 3M.

I dunno..

the new idea sounds good...

but if you're like me, and on crappy dial-up...

your computer runs slow anyhow, and you just lose track of whatever thread you're reading after a while anyways....

no access for me, either

KITCH

thats what I'm worried about...

I subscribe to all threads....multi threads might make me more lost....

I do like maybe an idea of "hot clue Ideas" forlder only . Kinda a cut and paste of the best of the best...

we always have the normal rundown...of all the best ideas on a daily basis anyways...this could be a folder just for that.....for fast reading...
Fri, 01/13/2006 - 8:59 PM Permalink
KITCH

archiving multi threads is not a big deal...

you just stuff it all into one folder in a folder...

Lets play it by ear. If it sucks then we can drop the whole idea at anytime.

I looked, and you had access to the invitational that year.

I don't know why you didn't have access to that thread.

It wasn't intentional.

thats what I thought....

kinda weird...

oh well...

I remember when I showed up I knew nothing about invite threads or anything. I was just talking up a storm and all the sudden there was this new thread. I was like holy crap, how did I miss all that?

Then JT explained it to me.

I was happy to know I passed the test. I think people only though I was Jake for about 15 minutes. :goofy:

ots you passed my test when you called me in the park with the clue...

and you never even knew me...

archiving isn't an issue for me, terry. i've got a script that i just give the root url of the site and it scours the rest top down.

as far as a thread per clue, i don't like the idea either. but we'll see how it works.

I started a newfolder a couple days ago and still haven't been given host privileges.

I guess I knew that the actual act of archiving the thread wouldn't be a problem - but going back and reading through a year's hunt would lose some of it's appeal as the conversation would be broken up some and not in order all in one place.

I kinda like the idea of a separate thread for each clue. It's more organized. And that way if you have a new theory about clue 3 on day 8 you can post it in that folder, or if you want to see if anyone posted the same noodle that you had you can check the folder for that clue rather than slogging through hundreds of posts in the general discussion folder. Just my 2 cents.

I would agree if we had the ability to keep our thoughts organized. But, we don't. We post anywhere about anything. That's fine. That's the way we've evolved as a community, but I don't think we should believe this will stay organized.

I think the "digest" suggestion is the best idea. It would be restricted to only a few people to post "digests" and not random posts from everyone. I'd be willing to try to help with that. I could send the digest in via private message for CM to post. I just don't know how thorough I'd be able to be.

Is there an "invitational" thread this year like last year? Can I have access please?

I like the idea of having separate threads for each clue, then sharing general ideas and "meet me at Como at 11:00"-type messages on the main thread.

THX 1138

I believe the thought of the moderators is that if it's a pay site, there will be a lot less lurkers, and less need for an invitational.
Sat, 01/14/2006 - 12:14 PM Permalink
Terry

I suppose there could be lurkers who pay to lurk.
Sat, 01/14/2006 - 12:16 PM Permalink
ares

yeah but i think the probability of that is low, even if it isn't impossible.
Sat, 01/14/2006 - 12:23 PM Permalink

If they pay to lurk - that's their perogative. Though we would much prefer they come out of the dark and let us get to know them.
