Was just down there last night scouting around. Beasts exposed, there was a big swan or some bird of some sort next to the fountain (east of the "caribou" coffee shop) and the fitness place.
Could see the paddle-wheelers. Question, did they ever race paddle-wheelers on the river there? Contests waged of yore?
Was in there yesterday... First three clues made me think of that spot with the ice and water, hill and eldd, approach and have not fear.... Lots of ice in there, and some water. Noticed a couple other guys looked to be digging up on the side of the hill, but was pretty quite in there otherwise. Except for the backed in cars in the parking lot with motors running...
I do, hoever, agree with the earlier post that a mad dash (mosh pit) to Swede would not be pretty. So maybe at a larger park that can handle a mad rush. I am sure MaPress thinks of those things like safety. Kids sometimes come with (mine have).
I'll repeat what I said last night. Using the geological definition of vale, it eliminates most parks, except those on the river (Harriet, Vento/Lower Landing, Crosby, Hidden) or Swede.
In geography, a vale is a wide river valley, usually with a particularly wide flood plain or flat valley bottom. Vales commonly occur between the escarpment slopes of pairs of chalk downs, where the chalk dome has been eroded, exposing less resistant underlying rock, usually clay.
Last night's clue screams Swede. It basically gives you a map to the entrance through the tunnel/under the bridge. Given the anagram, I can't imagine it is anywhere other than Swede unless there is some sort of wild red herring in every clue that we are supposed to figure out.
And so, for ten glorious days, there was Carnival and joyous celebration in St. Paul -- feasting, dancing, fun and frolic reigned over by Boreas and the Queen of Snows, the fairest maiden of the realm, along with the four Winds, who were each accompanied by a lovely Princess from the realm of Boreas. Klondike Kate, a lady of song and merriment, added her sassy but enchanting voice to the festivities by singing songs of desire and sentiment.
Could this be the "sweet land of fun and frolic" we are looking for? Just a late call that it is in St. Paul?
I also lean toward a St Paul park as there has been an absence of "Go Ye look in a regional area" and the absense of an actual mention of st paul; that bugged me.
But I think you may have stumbled on something here.
Good job.
I think I am going to narrow down to a city of St Paul itself park.
"not a very white christmas...?" wasn't that clue 2 at Crosby? And the anagram for Swede is for a different rendition of the park's name, not the actual name.
squatters lived in more than a dozen houses along the river between the shops and the railroad bridge. The colony lacked any municipal services and, according to the authorÂ’s recollection, had a distinctly rural flavor to it.
The FBI did not learn of the Barker-Karpis gang's involvement in the Hamm case until the following year, when they first heard of it from dying Dillinger gangster Eddie Green.
Box has a book out called On The Street Where You Live, that movie/play with Julie Andrews/Audrey Hepburn called: My Fair Lady, which has the weirdest lyrics: ALso play was called Pygmalian or something like that.
Freddy When she mentioned how her aunt bit off the spoon,
She completely done me in.
And my heart went on a journey to the moon,
When she told about her father and the gin.
And I never saw a more enchanting farce
Than that moment when she shouted
"move your bloomin' "....
I have often walked down this street before;
But the pavement always stayed beneath my feet before.
All at once am I Several stories high.
Knowing I'm on the street where you live.
Are there lilac trees in the heart of town?
Can you hear a lark in any other part of town?
Does enchantment pour Out of ev'ry door?
No, it's just on the street where you live!
And oh! The towering feeling
Just to know somehow you are near.
The overpowering feeling
That any second you may suddenly appear!
People stop and stare. They don't bother me.
For there's no where else on earth that I would rather be.
"The colony lacked any municipal services and, according to the authorÂ’s recollection, had a distinctly rural flavor to it."
OMG, I forgot about the lack of toilets at Swede back then! I posted an earlier one about if there was a bad storm, the outhouses would float down stream. COLIC!
I just rolled my ass out of bed and was playing around with some anagrams and found that too. It's got me hooked on Swede again. Which makes me happy cause I'd rather it be there than to repeat one of the recent parks.
On a side note, it was a great time at Bulldogs last night. As much as I want to get out to a park and actually do some digging, I won't complain about a night like that either. Same bat time, same bat channel after we get another crappy clue that leads us more to Arlington Arkwright than anywhere else tonight?

Okay, Mikey, now I am convinced it's BC.

::runs and washes eyes out with broken glass::
But all clues fit Como in all hunts in all years.
You have a good teacher
This has to be it. whats the chance of that.

he has a heading that states the rules say can't be hidden there as per the PP, but apparently that has changed.

"It takes all sorts to come and play sports"
unless there is an alternate/archaic meaning for sports that I cannot find... (and I looked)
Could this be the "sweet land of fun and frolic" we are looking for? Just a late call that it is in St. Paul?
After a long struggle, the railroad right of way was paved for a
recreational path, and the Hollow is now accessible to bikers and other sports enthusiasts.

Are these the "beasts exposed we are looking for?
Of course arbor is a tree; ie: Arbor Day.
So I am thinking-sigh-its with a large tract of trees that is set aside, or off from the parking lot, etc.
A harbor could be a play on words.
Harbor of impressive arbor=
A large grove of trees set off from the main park area?
So now I am down to a St Paul proper park with a large track of woods.
I love committment!
so was I

Thanks Ian...
thats usually how I do it...
tying that with your new noodle... mowing down the area would get rid of your colic...
Is this the mysterious history we were looking for?
I am just try ing to tie stuff together... All I have so far is knots

P = Park

All I know about it, is what I was told, from my grandma, and her brother-in-law and others, who lived down there....
another one comes to the dark-side....
Duh!
