2009 - Swede Hollow

That's eight years.....eight corners to box.

Seems we have a three dimensional box with clues on each corner, which when "laminated" and folded will reveal precisely where the "X" is.

Well... gonna go see how the wife is doing this morning...

You kids have fun out there and don't get hurt. Make sure you're wearing clean underwear and that your name is clearly marked inside. Look both ways before crossing streets and please don't find the medallion yet

DANGEROUSLY COLD WIND CHILLS EXPECTED FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY

MORNING...

.THE PASSAGE OF A COLD FRONT THIS MORNING HAS ALLOWED FOR A COLD

ARCTIC HIGH PRESSURE TO BEGIN FILTERING INTO THE UPPER MIDWEST.

THE HIGH WILL CAUSE TEMPERATURES TO PLUMMET OVERNIGHT...ALLOWING

LOW TEMPERATURES TO GET BETWEEN 10 AND 20 BELOW ZERO SATURDAY

MORNING. TO GO ALONG WITH THE BITTERLY COLD TEMPERATURES...

NORTHWEST WINDS OF 5 TO 15 MPH WILL RESULT IN DANGEROUS WIND CHILL

READINGS BETWEEN 25 AND 35 BELOW ZERO FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY

MORNING ACROSS CENTRAL AND SOUTH CENTRAL MINNESOTA AND WEST

CENTRAL WISCONSIN. THE COLDEST WIND CHILL READING WILL OCCUR

FRIDAY MORNING ACROSS CENTRAL MINNESOTA...WHERE SEVERAL HOURS OF

WIND CHILLS BETWEEN 30 AND 40 BELOW ZERO WILL BE POSSIBLE.

A WIND CHILL ADVISORY MEANS THAT VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WINDS

WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE LOW WIND CHILLS. THIS WILL RESULT IN

FROST BITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.

IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUTDOORS...MAKE SURE YOU WEAR A HAT AND

GLOVES.

Clue #5 "...Sweet land..."

From Larry Millet's book, Sherlock Holmes and the Ice Palace Murders, page 33, last paragraph ...

"At the head of the hollow stood a picturesque pile of red brick buildings, the tallest of which culminated in a dome and cupola. This, I soon learned, was the home of St. Paul's largest brewery--a fact readily confirmed by the sweet heavy odor of malted barley which permeated the atmosphere."

Wow, is this in reference in Millet's book to Swede area?

Hi Lilslim! I think I'm going to go to the PP, they're doing some Mardi Gras shindig so that might be fun.

Swede Hollow sounds good with the anagram - if that was intentional.

I unfortunately, will be stuck in my office for the rest of the day.

Real life gets so intruding.
Fri, 01/23/2009 - 9:36 AM Permalink
Liquor Lady

I can't imagine that was unintentional, what are the chances of that happening with such an odd name like that? I would be digging that park today if I was closer
Fri, 01/23/2009 - 9:39 AM Permalink
Terry

I agree. Seems to be intentional.

Wow...he was prolly looking for the medallion and didn't want to admit it! He must have been really hurt, disoriented, something...you hear about people cutting their limbs off, crawling, doing whatever it takes to get to safety. It seems odd to me that he was freezing out there for 2 days and couldn't get anywhere. :ooh:

Poor guy...hope he doesn't lose his toes or anything..

Nice noodle TMK...... I always anagram the wrong combo of words.

Nice find Posen..... I definately think Millett might be behind the clue writing. I guess we'll know for sure when the explanations come out. If they rock - Millett, if they're lame ass then it's the same floating turd from last year. Last years clues were great just the explanations for them sucked.

100% intentional.

now were the intentions to help us or throw us off is the real question

MN Wild players are "all sorts" (Canada, Finland, Slovakia, Sweden, Czech Rep., Finland) who come to play sports in St Paul at the XCEL where the RNC was. Who looks more lovely in lipstick? A hockey mom. :pbpt:

And another possible fit:

"With bower enclosed and beasts exposed"

Hamm would throw very elegant parties. The band would be imported from the city, a good German band. The lawn was all lit with Chinese lanterns, and he had tame deer that he kept in a barn below the bluff, and peacocks. And these animals would roam among his dinner guests as they danced away the night..

If you really want to fit the sports part to Swede.... I read where the children of the hollow never had a lack of balls since they would get lost down the storm drains from the above streets and come down phalen creek.

Nice.... I was trying to search for alternate spellings for svenska as in svenske to see if that would make the endless knave anagram work but I couldn't find any.... unless the alternate spelling for dalen is delen?

    sweet land of liberty

statue of liberty is on top of Yarusso's

(however I very much like the sweet smell idea) - double meaning clue?

hey hey hi everyone who hasn't been around much all year.

I havn't read to much here yet this morning but Im hoping that there isn't a leak from here in to the mapress boards. Ive been told there are more than 15 cars at one entrance there.

we scouted that park a couple days ago - I was suprised to see so many people down there then.

OH and I CANNOT believe that guy stuck in BC for 2 days! and we didn't come across him! WOW!

Vale (?), n. [OE. val, F. val, L. vallis; perhaps akin to Gr. low ground, marsh meadow. Cf. Avalanche, Vail to lower, Valley.]

A tract of low ground, or of land between hills; a valley.

" Make me a cottage in the vale."

    Tennyson.

Beyond this vale of tears there is a life above. Montgomery.

In those fair vales, by nature formed to please. Harte.

⇒ Vale is more commonly used in poetry, and valley in prose and common discourse.

Syn. -- Valley; dingle; dell; dale.

So a vale doesn't necessarily have to be a big river valley. It can be a dell or a dale.

    colic:

my thoughts on this is that the park didnt have a sewer system no toilets - it was a cess pool for years. One reason why they made everyone move out and condemned it.

I haven't seen the anagram over there either.

EVERYONE PLEASE DON'T POST SOMEONE'S ELSE NOODLES FROM HERE OVER THERE.

There is a reason we pay to post here. TMK's noodle was awesome.

Plus with st paul schools being off today we don't need 1000's of teens rushing over there to have another 6 clue hunt like BC.

I thought the puncuation from the last clue was strange. Every line ended with a different type. So I decided to take them all and anagram them and I got this

    !.,:

I think it looks a bit like the Frong Pond.
