2012 - Tony Schmidt Park

Submitted by ares on
2012 Clues

So its back to the drawing board for next year
to find a spot so deep and drear.
Harder to reach all you whiners
than those buried Chilean miners.

Next year's clues will inspire dread
requiring knowledge of languages dead,
Higher math rocket science
disbanding every hunters alliance.

I take your leave. I bid adieu.
I go in search of the perfect clue.
Prepare to hike hard dig deep and delve.
Will have a grand party in 2012.

So much for all that cipher mumbo jumbo! Nicely done BFG!

Sure, I leave for a few minutes.. then they post and decipher it. Heh.

I expect they'll make the scrambles harder as the clues go on.

"I love it when they dial a phone is the videos....

I ran those touch tones through an on-line DTMF decoder and came up with the number dialed..... Which was 228-2093. I will assume the area code to be 651. If so, 651-228-2093 is the direct line to John Brewer who is a reporter for the Pioneer Press. Don't know if this means anything but thought it was worth posting.

I know last year (or was it the year before?) when they dialed a phone in a video I did the same process and came up with Joe Soucheray's direct line.... he was the CW that year. Who knows, maybe this is their way of telling us that John Brewer is the CW this year????"

"I just read on John Brewer's Twitter page that he's been busy for the last week and a half with PP treasure hunt video production"

It seems obvious now that it will have to be a different one each night or they might as well not scramble it at all.

Seriously - it is ON a golf course? Now that IS different.

I'll have to go back and look at the video we tivo'ed. Her name was given there.

I gotta say, even with being as excited as I am, I feel it's a bit anticlimactic to have this clue on Friday night before I even fall asleep, with the PDG tomorrow evening and no new clue to follow. Early Edition... Pffft!

Do you think the CW really means ON the course. This is a trip! I mean - it is clue one only, why the easy give away so fast? The Ferguson clue with this is going to send thousands to Highland tomorrow morn.

"On a course for golf, please leave no mark."

I'm pretty sure this line is saying that it's NOT on a golf course...

Does anyone else think this sounds more like a clue from 20 or 30 years ago in its style and tone?

The classic debate of "Are they telling us to stay off the golf course because there is a golf course there, or is it just a general statement?" In the past it has always proven to be just a general statement.

I agree, I believe this to mean stay away from the golf courses. Leave no mark on them.

It will be hidden in this treasure chest in Cherokee Park. The clue writer is John Brewer.

If I end up being right I am saint-like.

If you end up being right, it will be a five clue hunt. :pbpt:

Gotcha. I think the wording just threw me.

The tone is very lyrical and bouncy.

The realm - what do you guys think - just St. Paul, or all of Ramsey county? Personally, I am thinking St. Paul is the King's realm.

Ok, this is getting too strange. Now they have someone singing the clues?

Did someone at the press look at the hunt a couple years ago and say "We need to jazz it up more, you know, add a bunch of multimedia to it"?

Too soon to read too much into a clue, but the condensing of Pioneer Press to Pi Press made me think of pie irons, like the kind you use around a campfire.

Guess I should get some sleep....

Oh and no hidden information in the id3 tag on the mp3 file from the clue song.

Other than it was created or generated with itunes, big deal there...

DANGIT! Was watching a movie with the family thinking to myself I will be good until this morning when I go buy the early edition. Thank god my husband is MEGA awesome to wake me up just now with the printed out clues! I feel like the kid who wanted to see the countdown to New Years, only to wake up the next day! :crying:

I have been thinking Highland before it started only for the fact that its the 60th anniversary. The reference to golf course made me think Highland was well. Though like AW said, it could just be the basic statement.

Doesn't it sound very Dylan-like? I am wondering if they will change music styles with each clue and if it can have any meaning... my guess is it is more like the video versions and is just for entertainment, but who knows!?!

The word pi was done on purpose, makes me think 3.14 or a reference to something round.

Thinking saint Paul as that's the realm.

The hand opening the treasure box in the vid capture shot is obviously female.

Check the left hand index finger's nail length.

Early pick for park is Highland.

Maybe the treasure needs to be unraveled, perhaps it's wrapped in yarn or twine of some sort.

A chest wrapped in something else?

Was it in a chest when it was under the mailbox on 7th?

It doesn't seem like it was in anything other than attached with a magnet

Was it only once it was in a chest? I thought there were a few until they retired it.

Hmmm, pi and Circulated could mean the hunt has come full circle and it's back at Highland.

Como in 2001 had the clue about circular thinking.

Could be near a street named (something) Circle.

Could be hidden in or near a fire ring.
