2012 - Tony Schmidt Park

Submitted by ares on
2012 Clues

So its back to the drawing board for next year
to find a spot so deep and drear.
Harder to reach all you whiners
than those buried Chilean miners.

Next year's clues will inspire dread
requiring knowledge of languages dead,
Higher math rocket science
disbanding every hunters alliance.

I take your leave. I bid adieu.
I go in search of the perfect clue.
Prepare to hike hard dig deep and delve.
Will have a grand party in 2012.

anyone else having trouble registering for the med giveaway on facebook? I have to fill out a form every time. Any one else have to do that? Then I get email saying they are reveiwing my registration and will send an email when I'm approved or disapproved.

I've noticed some issues with registering on facebook as well. The disturbing problem is every day you sign up with all of your personal information, including a plaintext password field. And no good confirmation that your entry was successful.

Same gripe, I have had the emails saying they will confirm my registration with another email saying it was accepted yet that email never comes...

Hi every1...I decided to go look at two parks today just for *hits and giggles.....and at Tony Schmidt there were a couple walking around the shelter at the beach taking pic's on there phone. I laughed to my self and said there as nuts as me ...Was it one of us? Drove through Long Lake too. Just for the feel of it. Oh my I think I've been bit by the hunt bug.

Correct on the cipher. I gave you the keyword right before I  ed.

Ciphers are a slippery slope, I expect they won't go that far in a scramble. Perhaps something like a sudoku puzzle though? Or just anagrams, or simply mixing up the words into incoherent sentences.

Congrats incrediblemagpie  Yeah, geocachers are pretty adept at puzzles.

Sitting here listening to the hard drive on my laptop.. I think the heads might be going out.

Crappy seagate drives anyway... Manufacturers like them because they're cheap... Oh well, it's just for data right now, not the OS. I don't like it though.. think part of my tax returns will be a trip to microcenter for a western digital equivalent drive.

Here is a link to the pirate medallion contest, I think the picture of the medallion on the website is what they may look like.

So this is going on at the same time as the regular medallion hunt? I think that is a cool idea. And for those of you wondering, I usually post as Art Vandelay, but I cannot seem to change my username. So it is me Art, posting as my real name, Dan.

Rumkin ... What is that guy's caching name? I haven't seen him log anything in years. Used to cache with a kid in a stroller.

Hmm in Ramsey County Parks.. so.

Regional Parks

Bald Eagle/Otter Lake

Battle Creek

Keller

Long Lake

Tony Schmidt

Vadnais-Snail Lakes

County Parks

Beaver

Gervais

Island

Josephine

McCarrons

Owasso

Turtle

White Bear

Is the idea on these to hide them outside of St. Paul proper so they don't interfere with the Medallion Hunt?

Well, those Pirate Medallions aren't too bad; they look different enough...

Hiding a 1000 of these? Someone is going to get caught...

My guess is the cluewriter and all those responsible in the medallion hunt are probably not involved in hiding these pirate medallions.

I dont think theres much "Hiding" involved with the pirate medallions. More like scatter them around everywhere...

Hi everyone! Got the buttons registered. Wondering how they might hide the med with so little snow...probably in the woods in a log, as usual.

FYI, I asked to join the FB group under a name with "Green" in it. It's me!

True.. I'm thinking it would be nice to go and grab a handful or so from a park myself. I wouldn't mind a few free admissions to the science museum

I just saw that on their site today, however strangely enough, the picture of a prospective medallion on the science museum's site only states admission for 1 person...

To mark the 60th anniversary of the Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt, this medallion will be retired and given away in an online drawing at the end of this year's hunt.

Do you think they're using the same medallion this year? It almost sounds as if they worded it so they intend to use the current one for this years hunt.

sounds to me like its the last hunt

Hmm.. hard to say I guess. I'm not really getting that, but I suppose if they intended on ending it, they wouldn't say so until the hunt was over, as it would probably cause mass hysteria.

Mad_Dach5und

Pioneer Press would continue with the hunt forever as long as sponsors can be found to pony up the prize money and/or liability.

I don't think it will be Highland, but you never know with the Red Herring. I have a pretty good guess of where the puck will be hidden this year. Surprised nobody has picked up on it, or if they have, haven't heard about it yet.

I had someone from Cheese land tell me they had an article in the paper saying it was the last hunt. Maybe they read it the same way? I havn't seen anything to back that up myself.

Hi KC0GRN -

I was wondering the same thing. Over on the other board, they are convinced it is a new puck this year. It makes sense actually, but I agree the wording is said in such a way as to not be certain their intention.

If it is a new puck - I wonder what it looks like?

I am a newbie to the forum, but I am familiar with many of your names over the years. Anyway, great hunting to you and all.
