2012 - Tony Schmidt Park

Submitted by ares on
2012 Clues

So its back to the drawing board for next year
to find a spot so deep and drear.
Harder to reach all you whiners
than those buried Chilean miners.

Next year's clues will inspire dread
requiring knowledge of languages dead,
Higher math rocket science
disbanding every hunters alliance.

I take your leave. I bid adieu.
I go in search of the perfect clue.
Prepare to hike hard dig deep and delve.
Will have a grand party in 2012.

So much noodling. So few clues.

I'd say some are a bit hyped up already.

The ciphers are a new twist. I understand the Vigenere, but some of the others are completely over my head. Hopefully, I am just warming up and not over-cooking my noodle!

I pretty much start hunting again each year when the buttons come out. I review the parks, read history books and work out in my snow suit at the gym!

Yes, I unabashedly do it all for the hunt.

There are some definate new twists this year.

I'm excited for the hunt, but am doubting we will be hunting except weekends. I've already put in for vacation next year before anyone else books a trip to Mexico during the hunt - when I have to cover for them.

Of course, I will end up noodling and thinking new clues until the wee hours of the morning and then go dragging into work.

Ya know terry if I'd have known John was gonna have those 3 from 89 in a video I'd have suggested he get a hold of you. You could have reenacted the find, lossd, and find

My doctor tells me that noodling several times a day is recommended for good mental health. A two week noodle-a-thon can be even better - a lifesaver for many people.

After all - it is good for your brain. (This is my rationale, at least).

Sure, your mate's sleeping patterns get thrown off and they kick you out to the blow-up mattress for the next two weeks, but it is all worth it, I say. Anything for my precious....the one that unites us all....

Noodle while you work...we won't tell.

Brenda would have to do that - and she's not here.

She and I already did the story on the documentary.

I know someone once told me they had heard when it was found and not tossed back, there was only one muff. To see them have THE pair of earmuffs intact was heartwarming in an odd sort of way.

Now you may duck!

With the first clue on Saturday, the evening will bring two things to look for - the medallion and

EARTH-DIRECTED FLARE: Active sunspot 1401 erupted today, Jan. 19th, for more than an hour around 16:00 UT. The long-duration blast produced an M3-class solar flare and a CME that appears to be heading toward Earth. Forecasters say strong geomagnetic storms are possible when the cloud arrives during the late hours of Jan. 21st. High-latitude (and possibly middle-latitude) sky watchers should be alert for auroras this weekend. Check http://spaceweather.com for movies and updates.

I like the noodle but doubt that they thought that far ahead.

(P.S.if the rhyme is direct from tha PP, I wish they would have written "bid adieu" as opposed to "bid ado"! A newspaper should know the difference)

Hi becksie -

No, the misspelling did not come from the paper, that was me. Sorry. Clearly, foreign language spelling, is not my forte!

Hey, at least I know the word delve.

oops, I see now you were referencing a different post - but, I made the same mistake.

For whats it's worth...I Love Long Lake regional Park..have for years..

uncharted territory .... only maps is online...never been there...TONS of parking! Tons of history that can be misconstrued to to city park...

lots of folks think New Brighton is not a Ramsey County Park..

Lastly because of no snow I think CW had a park picked but waited to go to an alternate park in case we didn't get snow. Just like No Time For Cold Feet said, they have back up parks and clues for different reasons. ( that's how I interpreted the interview with CW)

My Thoughts on this year

Almost had me worried there for a minute. But I'm pretty sure mine is registered.

I have been there several times. Lots of history, plenty of parking, several markers that can be noted from the spot. Lots of activities at park, close to Arden hills, not marked on google maps, not far from Gabe's, lots of trees - sounds like a good spot to me, but I am never one to attach to a park early.

Thanks for posting that! It would be great to see some auroras, it's been ages.

If the med is out there somewhere already, it's being covered with snow right now.

Not attached...just keeping an eye on it..and those are my reasons why.
Fri, 01/20/2012 - 8:28 AM Permalink

sorry brasscat, I didn't mean to imply that you were attached to the park.

The park certainly would work for this years hunt, though.

I keep imagining a sort of "smokie and the bandit" type race to the park. Scary.

Any idea when they're going to be hiding (or more to the point tossing) all of the pirate medallions?

Maybe, maybe not. I hope to get there for at least an hour or two. But I got an 8 day old at home, and the wife's Christmas party that same night (right over Como-Dale, so not too far from ABB). So we'll see what happens... Already had to turn down pre pre dig gigging at Art's house. Stupid parenting responsibilities...

The PP just tweeted that they are hiding the pirate medallions. Not sure if that means they are actually hiding them now, or just a general reminder that they are doing that this year.

I don't give a shit about the scrambled clue. I want to know if they're still making those creepy video clues.
