2012 Clues
So its back to the drawing board for next year
to find a spot so deep and drear.
Harder to reach all you whiners
than those buried Chilean miners.
Next year's clues will inspire dread
requiring knowledge of languages dead,
Higher math rocket science
disbanding every hunters alliance.
I take your leave. I bid adieu.
I go in search of the perfect clue.
Prepare to hike hard dig deep and delve.
Will have a grand party in 2012.

Seriously, I'd welcome a $500 prize if it meant I could find the medallion stuck in a white castle box next to a trash can in rice park, or something along those lines.

Clues on TwinCities.com: Clues will be posted online on TwinCities.com at about 11:30 p.m. each day of the hunt – but hunters ready for a riddle will have an advantage: The clue will be released in scrambled form one hour earlier, at about 10:30 p.m.
"email alerts with a link to each new clue as itÂ’s issued."
Just the arrangement of words or will the whole clue be in code?
I think this could be fun. I see the forums revving up earlier in the night now!
"Real Pirates": In partnership with the Science Museum of Minnesota, 1,000 "medallions" will be hidden in parks around Ramsey County – each good for one free admission for the Real Pirates exhibit, opening Feb. 18.
Hey Jake, if I win it, do you want to buy it for $10,000  j/k
I can hide a clue pretty well online, or in various styles of encryption for that matter.
Or My old standby Beaver. Lots of woods there too.
Besides, how to underage hunters get into gabes. Wrecks it for 18-20 yr olds...
Since they are hiding 1000 fake pirate medallions during this years hunt, I have created a friendly competition for those wanting to see who can pick up the most of these.
Basically, the number of medallions found splits the pot. (20 found, pot split 20 ways, 1 found, winner take all) The more people play the bigger the pot will be.
I created a facebook page with the details. If you aren't on facebook and want to play, message me.

So what do you think these fakes are going to look like? the jolly roger, or something more in line with the winter carvnival/medallion hunt? I'm tempted to find a few to hang on to.

Um, I don't think there was a medallion then. I *think* a certificate was placed in the chest?
I found it when I moved.

So the Gabes thing...do you think they are going to sell papers inside or do you think they might set up the big tent outside so that all ages can stand outside and wait for the clue? I also wonder how long this construction might last on Cedar? Just this year? longer?
Maybe with the scrambled clue coming out at 10:30, they are banking on not very many people going to Gabes for the newpaper?
So many questions, so few answers...
What most people don't know is that if they win the medallion in this drawing, they will also be winning a piece of Ingebrigtson family history.
Brings up another interesting question though, I wonder if the press will make the winner sign anything stating they won't auction the medallion off on ebay.
and i have access to some decent sized super-computers. some of our smallish development systems are in the neighborhood of 6000 cores.
binary encoding is too much of a pain in the butt.
Try this:

your challenge is not so much to find the message as much as it is to find the cipher and the key.
Here's your next one ares

Oh, and I guess I'll let this count as today's puzzle for anyone else interested.
I'll work on the next one in the morning.
