2012 - Tony Schmidt Park

Submitted by ares on
2012 Clues

So its back to the drawing board for next year
to find a spot so deep and drear.
Harder to reach all you whiners
than those buried Chilean miners.

Next year's clues will inspire dread
requiring knowledge of languages dead,
Higher math rocket science
disbanding every hunters alliance.

I take your leave. I bid adieu.
I go in search of the perfect clue.
Prepare to hike hard dig deep and delve.
Will have a grand party in 2012.

Thanks Gilby... Still lingering in my mind cause even the workers wouldn't know if it winds up there or not.

gilby, you can never go by what the governing authority says because unless the pp says its off limits, if its public land in ramsey county its fair game. if i remember right, people heard the same thing about central park in roseville from the roseville parks department. see http://coolercrew.com/fairgrounds_myth for my treatise explaining why the fairgrounds is public land but otherwise off limits. no similar impediment exists that i have found that covers state parks.

Yay, another hunt in a huge patch of woods. There is a serious lack of creativity on these hunts in the last few years.

Seriously, I'd welcome a $500 prize if it meant I could find the medallion stuck in a white castle box next to a trash can in rice park, or something along those lines.

btw, logged in to check the forums here, oddly enough I had 78 unread messages in this forum and the cooler crew cachers forum.. medallion was hidden in harriet island in 78.. maybe I should start looking there. Lol.. right, not enough woods.

WTF,

From the Press

Clues on TwinCities.com: Clues will be posted online on TwinCities.com at about 11:30 p.m. each day of the hunt – but hunters ready for a riddle will have an advantage: The clue will be released in scrambled form one hour earlier, at about 10:30 p.m.

Curious to know what scrambled form means?

Just the arrangement of words or will the whole clue be in code?

If by chance this hunt goes long, depending how quickly you solve it, the extra hour could be critical for getting a jump on others with one of the last pinpoint the pucks location clues.

I think this could be fun. I see the forums revving up earlier in the night now!

Since they are releasing the clue in mass e-mail to everyone that signs up I wonder if this will eliminate the need to stand in line...?

People are going to be finding medallions everywhere...

"Real Pirates": In partnership with the Science Museum of Minnesota, 1,000 "medallions" will be hidden in parks around Ramsey County – each good for one free admission for the Real Pirates exhibit, opening Feb. 18.

Define scrambled.

I can hide a clue pretty well online, or in various styles of encryption for that matter.

Hi All,

Since they are hiding 1000 fake pirate medallions during this years hunt, I have created a friendly competition for those wanting to see who can pick up the most of these.

Basically, the number of medallions found splits the pot. (20 found, pot split 20 ways, 1 found, winner take all) The more people play the bigger the pot will be.

I created a facebook page with the details. If you aren't on facebook and want to play, message me.

"And in another hunt twist, 1,000 miniature medallions will be hidden in parks in Ramsey County. Each medallion is good for free admission to the "Real Pirates" exhibit opening Feb. 18 at the Science Museum of Minnesota."

So what do you think these fakes are going to look like? the jolly roger, or something more in line with the winter carvnival/medallion hunt? I'm tempted to find a few to hang on to.

Hi y'all!

So the Gabes thing...do you think they are going to sell papers inside or do you think they might set up the big tent outside so that all ages can stand outside and wait for the clue? I also wonder how long this construction might last on Cedar? Just this year? longer?

Maybe with the scrambled clue coming out at 10:30, they are banking on not very many people going to Gabes for the newpaper?

So many questions, so few answers...

10k? No way. I will be offering the winner of the drawing $1,000 for it though. It will be a no haggle offer, take it or leave it.

What most people don't know is that if they win the medallion in this drawing, they will also be winning a piece of Ingebrigtson family history.

1,000.. hmm kind of at the tempting spot.

Brings up another interesting question though, I wonder if the press will make the winner sign anything stating they won't auction the medallion off on ebay.

Well ok, yesterday's code was simple enough to understand, even for AW. I'm sure he can figure this one out easily too. Perhaps tomorrow I'll try for something more difficult.

binary encoding is too much of a pain in the butt.

Try this:

dcllehedtnrcfbeyolkdabsskgqoeepccnmpcvswrctnwpkdyotwlcbakgnycrkoowtwkhzcrsikpesccvsrdpqbzsoosoomhvtnrhlcclbillzfzdlcpekrpmgqhglcdkmbbmwcrq

your challenge is not so much to find the message as much as it is to find the cipher and the key.

unless its a wild success for all involved i'd expect that most of the lower downtown construction will be wrapped up before next year's hunt.

The construction was supposed to be about a year, and I think they're 4-5 months into it.
