2012 - Tony Schmidt Park

Submitted by ares on
2012 Clues

So its back to the drawing board for next year
to find a spot so deep and drear.
Harder to reach all you whiners
than those buried Chilean miners.

Next year's clues will inspire dread
requiring knowledge of languages dead,
Higher math rocket science
disbanding every hunters alliance.

I take your leave. I bid adieu.
I go in search of the perfect clue.
Prepare to hike hard dig deep and delve.
Will have a grand party in 2012.

Welcome to the boards! It should get busy here real soon.

I would bet that Ferguson is a female.

The CW does say No No, not Fergie! Ferguson! I thought female as did my husband right away!

Some of the mannerisms seem to indicate that the person in the video may be a woman, whether or not that is the CW is also a question.

They imply that the person behind the veil is the CW though...

Hello! Yup we were the twins, I'm glad to be here! Very sad to say my bro won't be joining us this year, he'll be out in Denmark studying.

In the past, the videos have proved to be nothing more than a distraction. For all you know, the person on-screen is not even a PP employee, but somebody's uncle/aunt sworn to secrecy. Have fun deciphering those things frame by frame, but I'm just going to smirk and get a copy of the paper with the REAL clues.

I agree however the videos by James Goodhue himself I believe was really the clue writer and hider. The videos with the nightly clues have been different characters.

Like the Goodhue videos from the past I believe that this ferguson is the clue writer.

Thank the Lord Tebow! I didn't care for the last clue writer. Obscure clues, big parks, always in the woods. Got old fast. Too bad, this new writer is a year too late. If he/she would have come around last year we might have got a small park, or at least no woods. Instead this year with no snow, we basically have to go big park and woods again (or not know the park till clue 11.

I just saw the video! Exciting.

Okay - here is what I see right away. I recognize that nose. It has been behind that screen before.

The wig looks to be more of a Ben Franklin or Thomas Jefferson style hairdo, rather than a hippie with long hair hairdo. Additionally, a simple piece of twine is used to bind the pony tail. This is atypical for ladies IMHO.

IT'S FINALLY HERE!!!!!!!!!!!

We all prep for this hunt in ways that are similar to others and some ways that are different. I tend to get a bit introspective and end up spending hours reading through parts of the water cooler threads from the old PP boards of the 90s that have been saved in archives on www.coolercrew.com. Usually, the hunting books and stuff don't come out until this coming Sunday along with all the winter gear that was laundered and packed away after the previous hunt.

I love the hunt. I miss the 2 clues a day hunts, but glad in some ways this is spread out over more days...but the sleep deprivation is worse this way.

I miss the friends that have died that we have spent many hours hunting with in the past. I am grateful for my Mom who handed down the fever to me. I look forward to talking clues with her over the phone like we've done since I was little. She is now in her 80s and I wonder how many more years I will be so lucky to have her to bounce ideas around with.

When Inks and I first started hunting together, it was about hoping to find the medallion for the money. Now I'm happy to be in the right park and have good people to share the ride with. Though it would be great to find the thing and actually not put it back, that isn't what's most important as we begin our 41st hunt together. It's about the shared experience and the great friends we have found in the process. $10,000 is nothing to scoff at, but the reality is that would be spent and gone. Friendships and memories last forever.

Like your post Terry.... Yeah... Time goes by.

I have never paid attention to when the early edition with the clue comes out. What time should I look for it. I usually look for it early evening, but this year, I am awaiting....

Guess I should put my gear together. Fill the flask, etc.

I loved the last clue writer! I've been close so many times since 2003!

If we have a new CW I may not even get close again! :coolfrown:

Not only do I agree with the chunky monkey, that funky monkey, but I think dear Ferguson is still the old CW from previous years. Might as well stick my neck out early.

If I had to guess - I would say the CW is Mike Burbach, Editor of the PP. He follows the tweets of JBrewer and has white hair, something I spotted is a feature of the CW.

Just a noodle, not an accusation. Like in the game CLUE, I am only making a suggestion here.

I certainly was much more in tune with this last clue writer. For example 21 years ago, the first place I ever looked for the medallion was Lilydale...... I was before my time. I couldn't face the ordinary and lazy as it was so many times then. Although, creatively packaged.

Love Crosby.... I was there with 6-7 others for days before the crowds came. Loved it. Still love it. I think it's a good possibility.

Crosby is on my short list just based upon general conditions.

What's your tool of choice for this year. The short flat end shovel I typically use isn't the best for these conditions.

Thinking a small headed metal rake might work well for sorting. Maybe a hoe. A regular rake seems too wide and not amenable to smaller spaces and sorting.

Thoughts?

Agreed on Crosby. I made a list of 10 parks for a silly reason that is unfounded. I have to be open to new ideas. Of course, I like the really REMOTE part of crosby..... There's a cool Teepee there.

As of now I would say hand held rake used for tilling earth.

Hey not sure if this was mentioned before but the registration deadline is TONIGHT FRIDAY at midnight.... I can't find it on TC.com but one my coworkers read it in the paper and I found the rules posted on one of the PP discussion boards.

Not sure if some of you were waiting til tomorrow to get them from Kat but you better come up with Plan B fast.

I can't access Facebook from work so could someone post a reminder on the cooler page?

It's interesting watching the clue videos in slow motion, like 20% normal speed. The voice is still masked. If you thought they were creepy at regular speed, lol way worse slower.

Does anyone know who the woman is from the PP in todays WCCO video "Friendships, Love found...." she opens the small chest and holds up the old Med. talking about"...people calling in the summer to make sure they get the vaction time for the hunt..."

Looking very carefully, she could be the female in the "deed is done" video??!! Look at the way the lips move, the front teeth, chin and hands......???

No idea, but good guess.

I've been watching the video, I'll try to get some good screen grabs.

take a look at second 43 in the vid - when the hat slides down and he/she pushes it back up. Looks like they have glasses on.

The paper cannot come soon enough tomorrow morn!

I noticed glasses much earlier in the video. In slow motion, you can see them when the person is pushed into view and they reorient themselves.

Still working on screen caps.

The PP just posted on Facebook that the scrambled 1st clue will be released at 1 am!

KC0GRN

After looking at the video more, I don't think "Ferguson" is a woman. Sometimes the arms/hands are thin, but mostly I think that's an optical illusion from the lighting.

On the screen cap, you can also see the arm is hairy, harrier than I'd expect from a woman's arms anyway.

And Skari is right, the person is wearing glasses.

I am new year, but isn't there more than 1 video released so far this year...tonight? Unless they are from previous years, I am seeing a total of 4 videos released on 1/20/2012. They were all posted tonight but they could have just posted some now from last year. I am wondering because I haven't heard anyone mention any video except the deed is done video with that girl/guy CW. If you wait for the video to end you can see the other 3 down at the bottom on the far left?

Ah gheez...I was just thinking of calling it a night and shutting things down here....now you're telling me if I stay up just ONE MORE HOUR, there might be some kind of scrambled clue for me to allow into my head, if only to drive me nuts trying to figure it out??

Face it...there's usually enough speculation/discussion/argument about the "official" clues and their true meaning....I shudder to think what will come of "scrambled" clues.

KCOGRN,

Great job on the screen shot - i couldn't figure out how to do that.

And the hairy arms, yes, most of us ladies, we try really really hard not to have hairy arms.

Hey westy,

I never noticed it before, but those first three of James Goodhue IV do not show a date.

They are from last year...I think, but yes, they are from a previous years hunt for sure.
