2012 - Tony Schmidt Park

Submitted by ares on
2012 Clues

So its back to the drawing board for next year
to find a spot so deep and drear.
Harder to reach all you whiners
than those buried Chilean miners.

Next year's clues will inspire dread
requiring knowledge of languages dead,
Higher math rocket science
disbanding every hunters alliance.

I take your leave. I bid adieu.
I go in search of the perfect clue.
Prepare to hike hard dig deep and delve.
Will have a grand party in 2012.

Thanks, Terry!

Can someone please post directions and/or a map that shows the pavillion area we are going to?

I *think* I've found it on a map, but not having made it to the park, I don't want to assume.

I was up on and off last night but did manage to soldier through the event. I'm glad I did as there were some truly great moments.

If we want to get an indoor faciity such as Newell for next year, it will have to be a St. Paul resident who makes the reservation as they don't allow non-St. Paul people to do anything until February 1st.

Terry

Does anyone remember what Newell cost previously? I looked yesterday online and the cost now for 3 hours is $150 and that's the minimum. It's worth it, but wondering if the cost went up or I wasn't as aware of the cost.

And we would have to commit to the second weekend as they only refund half the cost for a cancellation.

Is that the resident price?

There is no indication that St. Paul residents get a break in price.

Was anyone still looking to aquire some pirate medallions?

Seems to me a bunch of people were asking, but I think they forgot, or got them by other means.

me2 AW. I am sick sick head stuffy, eye crusty, head pressure at work today.

I was so glad I was at Re-hash. I've heard someone say ::cough jake cough:: they were thankful and touched to everyone for how nice they were considering...

We had a pretty good size group for Cooler Crew knighting too!

I wanted to say they are apart of the Hotel Coolerfornia, You can never leave.

    but forgot.

THANK YOU TO EACH OF YOU WHO CAME (I think over 50 people!).
GREAT pot luck food this year!

my personal favorite: That wild rice with apricots was so yummy!

And 50+ treasure hunters out there couldn't find a tooth. I don't recall who the young girl was that lost it but I hope the tooth fairy didn't forget about her.

I would really like to go.

I knew people were donating them to places and didn't want to take from that.

If there are 1 to 5 more.
I don't nnnneed to take the girls but I know we all would like to see it and CM and I would like to go as a family if possible. so any are much appreciated.

I looked while we were in the park but no luck.

Ok. I was just judging the general need/wants from people before I continue looking for more of them. I figure it doesn't make sense to grab more if I have nothing to do with the extras.

I'll post again if/when I find another batch.

I could use a few if you have any extras. My daughter and son-in-law wanted to take their family to that exhibit. One granddaughter is a real pirate fan. I am pretty sure my son-in-law has been looking in Tamarack and Otter Lake but hasn't found any yet.

The shelter in the past was $125 so it did go up this year.

Based on the number of tickets I handed out plus a few more who came at the end I would say we had about 60 people yesterday.

Does anyone think it is a bad idea to reserve joseph's private room now for the pre dig next year? I think that would be the ideal space plus they have great food.
    Mon, 02/06/2012 - 9:53 PM Permalink
    Terry

What is the charge for that? I like the idea as there were some who never made it into ABB because parking and street parking were full.

    I do like their food.

We just have to spend a minimum of $500
    Tue, 02/07/2012 - 5:02 AM Permalink
    Terry

That is certainly doable. I be this crew drops double that for the predig.

    barefootguy

The only thing about the room at Joesph's is that drinks don't count towards the $500, just food.

    Mad_Dach5und

If you're going to start the Predig DURING the dinner hour, $500 of food will be ordered, no problem...

Well, using your 20/20 hindsight - would it been a wiser decision to start the predig AFTER the Wild game had started - like 8:00 instead of 6:00? I realize there are kids and curfews involved, but geez, this is an ongoing problem of overlapping the party crowd with the dinner crowd. Parking later might've been worse, but it wasn't impossible - even at 7:00 when I arrived.
    Tue, 02/07/2012 - 10:15 AM Permalink
    Terry

But there were people who couldn't find parking and so had to drive back home. I would like to see us get out of downtown because we keep running into parking and crowd issues whenever we're there.
    Tue, 02/07/2012 - 2:53 PM Permalink
    becksie

We should really consider this...you've been suggesting it for a few years now and it's certainly worth a try.
    Tue, 02/07/2012 - 6:46 PM Permalink
    Terry

I agree. It could be a wonderful solution.
    Tue, 02/07/2012 - 6:58 PM Permalink
    Terry

Allison, would you confirm whether or not drinks count toward the $500? And we do like to start early to let people come and go as they need to do so and get a chance to visit with everyone. So a 6:00 start would be good.

Like I said, getting out of downtown would be a good idea. Less parking issues and in our own room, the only crowd would be us.

I have to throw in my 2 pennies.

All this talk about Josephs.... don't forget DeGidio's.

Big banquet room. Right on 7th st.

drinks are wwwway better at DeGidio's! omg people Josephs drinks suck.

I've even had talks with the bartenders about this. it will not change.

    However, there soups are good.

DiGideo's would work for room food and drinks. I know parking us free but is it plentiful enough nearby for our Crew?

    Terry

I have had trouble finding parking at DiGideo's. I don't know what their pricing strategy is.

Going to Josephs for the pre-dig will save me some cash since the drinks suck and they are not cheap - no good deals at Joseph's. it's not like I've been there once. I lived over there since 1998. I would go before church and evenings - gave them soooooo many chances

FAIL to almost EPIC FAIL in my book ---- I only go there when someone else wants to go and to see their flowers on the patio in the summer. It ties for BW3's on Robert St. - I will NOT get a drink at BW3's anymore. AWFUL and pricey.

    <----- NOT A FAN

    I won't spend as much - guaranteed

will Joseph's allow our own DJ?

I'll agree with J on the drinks. Not the greatest if they're delivered. They make them decent if you're sitting at the bar tho. At least with me they do.

hard to screw up a beer...
    Wed, 02/08/2012 - 5:25 PM Permalink

With our crowd, we would have a private bar in the private room. I don't know if that will make any difference. I don't drink so I don't really have any experience with that aspect.

I had to go with a low grade wine cause the drinks were THAT BAD.

It's fine for pop and beer - you can't go wrong with taste....however you can go wrong with the price of that beer or pop.

The regular rail drinks are bad. Cluey, I'm gonna bet you had to pay more to get a stronger drink too. Remember, I had to beg to get a manager to make it better. It's like being at the casino. Strict, only black or white.

You want a $6 glass of orange juice?

This is the place to be.

    Ian:

We do a number of earth day clean ups in our system and it is great you want to do Tony Schmidt. We provide bags, but not gloves. I have included our volunteer coordinator, Angela Mens-Eastman on the email. She will be the contact for setting the date and getting you the bags.

I stopped out at Tony Schmidt the afternoon before the medallion was found. I have never seen so many people in that park.
