2012 Clues
So its back to the drawing board for next year
to find a spot so deep and drear.
Harder to reach all you whiners
than those buried Chilean miners.
Next year's clues will inspire dread
requiring knowledge of languages dead,
Higher math rocket science
disbanding every hunters alliance.
I take your leave. I bid adieu.
I go in search of the perfect clue.
Prepare to hike hard dig deep and delve.
Will have a grand party in 2012.

freakin awesome!!!!!
I don't care about "stealing" noodles. I care about people being unkind and deceptive.

Or in the words of Tim: Thatkl; iiiisi fgrtate akc;lk;;;fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff!
In addition, it is from all of you that I have learned over the past dozen years (starting back on the old pioneer press board) HOW to hunt.
Thank you!
I was in the park near the underground tunnel when I heard a phone ring. I looked around and nobody was anywhere near me, but the ring sounded really close. I looked around and saw a faint glow on the ground. I walked over and picked up the cell phone that was laying on the grass. It was an iphone and I look at the name of the person calling: Lee Valsvik. I answer hello, and we start talking. A friend of hers had lost the phone and was calling it to try and find it. She was going to tell her friend that I had it and to just call the phone. I could tell it was Lee Valsvik by the voice (and knowing she had been into the hunt because of a previous post here). I did meet up with the woman who lost the phone a little bit later. She was thankful for me finding it and waiting for her. Neither of us were as close to the medallion as we would have liked, but we chatted about our thoughts on the clues. She wished me luck and headed off then.
Fantastic!! So glad to hear!!
With the exception of a couple of lame explanations, I thought Ferguson did great! Leading 10,000 around their own back yards for 12 days and still having them scratching is no simple feat.
And the Weather! Wow! You could not ask for better January.
Just sad I missed another Magical Night of Scratching Snow...
get your ass back up here next year SPECIFICALLY for the hunt
I am happy you are healthy!! As i recall you gave it a real go ( on the hunt ) when you were sick a few years back...kudos and congrats!!
I love the fact that at the PP you can stay, scatter, go to a place to noodle etc...but the common thread of the PP is everyone seemed closer to some degree with seeing, touching and feeling each others vibes etc... the camaraderie of that is priceless in my opinion - not that the AM forums aren't a great place to chat - but the closeness of the group (yes i am saying group - i agree with most when we say ANYONE is welcome) whether in line or at ABB or in the parks.
I missed that this hunt!! but had a ton of fun seeing many of you out and about and of course searching....
On a positive note, I met more Coolerheads this hunt than in all the years past. That and the warm weather encouraged my dad to get out more and hunt with me. That time with him was priceless and I'd give up ever finding the medallion to have more time like that with him.
As for the lurking business over here and all that, well, I run the Twin Cities Social Club on meetup.com and face a similar problem. I like to think of all the groups on there as one big happy family but that's not the case. One group that's very similar to mine has an organizer that feels I'm a threat. I've only met her once and very briefly. Anyway, she looks at my calendar and steals most of my ideas for events and holds them a week or two before mine. Talk about pissing me off!!! But what can I do? I, too, could make it a private group but then folks interested in my group wouldn't be able to see our calendar of fun activities. Also, one of "her" fans could just pay to be a member of my group. I'd never know.
We just have to deal. It is what it is and we just need to focus on the positive - the friendships we've made, the memories, the fun... and to continue that tradition.
I know that because of this group and my being a member for almost 20-years, I've learned more about St. Paul and Ramsey County parks, people, and history than I ever thought possible living in WI! It certainly has impressed my friends, many of whom live in MN. As my one friend said the other day when I asked him if he'd like to join me in the hunt, "HA! I wouldn't be able to find one St. Paul park, let alone the right one!" He lives in Hopkins.
So, on that note, THANK YOU!!! I do hope to see this board and all of you back again next year. Too busy returning to normal life to make the Pity Party tonight and because I'm involved in Hudson's Hot Air Affair this weekend, I doubt I'll make the Rehash Bash.
Leelabel- congratulations! Cancer sucks, but being three years clear is quite the opposite. So glad to hear.
Onto some other things -
I don't care how many get credited with a find. I'm just sad when it's not me.
This board is the result of people with a like obsession wanting to share informaiton, ideas, the experience of this hunt each year. If you hunt, you can count yourself in whether you lurk, post, spend hours at the parks or none. It matters not. We all hunt the way we are able to do so.
The first time any of us met face-to-face was at the first rehash bash in 1998 in Cherokee. The smallish group that gathered there wanted to put faces to names. That lead to some friendships that endure yet today. We celebrate all sorts of things throughout the year and hold each other up when things are rough.
So how can one small medallion cause such commotion between people who really do care about others? Who cares if someone is a 1 time finder, a 2 time finder, a 3 time finder? I'm a zero time finder. I'm still a hunter and that is all I care about. I was in the right park this year. I figured I won. Too many times to count, I've been in the wrong park.
I share what I think here and always have. If people don't feel comfortable doing so, that is their right.
I love all the new people that post here each year. I would LOVE to meet all of you face-to-face. Sometimes those meetings create new friendships. Sometimes not so much, but we still share that one commonality of loving this hunt.
So before I get off my soapbox, lets all try to be civil with each other in our shared disappointment that we missed again. There are more of us zero time finders here. We are the 99%.
I hope to meet many of you on Sunday. The time is generally about 11:30 or noon so Super Bowl parties later in the day shouldn't be affected. Stay tuned to place and exact time. It is always potluck. I think I will be bringing something with wild rice this year to fit the theme.
and don't cry. You'll get me bawling
So we're going to Yarusso's for dinner. Anyone joining us? 6:30 sound good?
I have some relatives on a drop-in tonight. I'm pinned in Chanhassen,
so I'll see you folks at the rehash bash.
Here I thought I was the only one to suffer from Post
Medallion Syndrome in early February.
CL Joe for WD
See you Sunday. Stay tuned for place and exact time.
And it was great to meet a fell others as well!!
