Allison! It's less than a week away! Sure hope the digging and noodling get more interesting than the Medallion Hunt did. I still feel like we got short-changed this year.

I can promise lots of noodling but I'm afraid with this weather it will be a big zilch on the digging.

The digging will have to be in our minds...but the noodling will be fun.

i always thought that the noodling was a lot more fun than the digging anyway!

Ares - You got that right! And it's not like we've had a lot of digging muscle building this year either.

That's the Medallion for the Mock Hunt, but it's not the Medallion for the Winter Carnival hunt if that's what you were asking?

AW might have put it in dog poop, although that wasn't in my dream.

(Only New Daddy could truly appreciate this post.)

How do you know I didn't give her the idea? After all, she saw everything in a dream already!

No, I was just saying she might have already seen the truth through her psychic abilities and that's where she got the idea, because it was true! Well ok, I'll admit, it's not really in dog poop.

You heard it here first!!! (And, it's not at Crosby either!)

It was easier to get ahold of cat poop.

now that was a mental picture i needed.

Besides, the kitty litter helps it stick together more easily.

That's it. I'm not hunting.

Now the next question is, how did it get into the cat poop? Before or after the cat pooped?

Thu, 02/14/2002 - 11:33 PM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

It was one unhappy kitty.

I always wonder what fema actually was. Now I know. FEline MAnure. I guess that explains the firm yet plyable texture of it.

How many are going to Fabulous Fern's on Sunday? Any ball park figure?

Fri, 02/15/2002 - 1:11 PM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

I'm thinking 10-15 people maybe for Fern's.

On another note, I heard a very interesting story tonight Terry. I was talking to Snake 1988 and he said he saw the earmuff that it was hidden in at the Capitol. And he said it wasn't a pair of earmuffs at all. He said it was just a single ear covering that was holding the Medallion and nothing like what you described. If I remember the story correctly, you found a nice pair of earmuffs and put them back. And then you only heard that it had been found in earmuffs later and assumed it was the same ones? Or did you actually see/read about it and know it was the same? He also said where it was found (and he saw the spot) wasn't anywhere a child would have picked them up from or put them back. Is it possible you've been kicking yourself all these years for nothing?

Terry

So what does one do when the phone rings twice in the middle of the night (wrong number) and you can't get back to sleep? UGH!

Slog.

Allison - If it really was just one of the ear coverings, that would mean we've kicked ourselves for many years for nothing.

However, "The medallion was hidden inside an earmuff at the edge of the sidewalk, about 30 yards north of the fenced-in area near the Veterans Building."

That was where it was hidden and right in the area that Brenda found the earmuffs she wanted to keep. As I recall, however, that year it had been moved from it's hiding place - and with the storm that came later that week - and all the hunters there later that week (the hunt went to the last day), I believe my daughter was not the only one to have moved them.

Remember, there was only but maybe an inch of white fluffy dry snow when we had those in our hands. Barely enough snow to cover the grass. The weather was very nice and we had been all over the place there and had spent about three hours wandering through the area and kicking snow as we went. (No digging required.) There was no place a kid wouldn't have come across those in the conditions such as they were on that Tuesday night. Nor is there any place a kid wouldn't/couldn't have put them down again.

That was when the first clue came out on Sunday and there were two clues each day - morning and evening. We were there on 5 clues.

As I also recall, there was a picture of the finders either in the paper or on the news with the earmuffs - or they were described to lead us to believe they were one and the same...and my daughter freaked out.

If they were not the same, I would find it hard to believe - though believing it would certainly feel better than knowing we put the treasure back only to be found later by someone else.

So maybe now I'll dream of earmuffs in the snow.

Goodnight!

Just to remind everyone, these will be the official Mock Hunt Rules to keep in mind as you're hunting.

1. The Hunt starts on Sunday, February 17th at 7pm. The clues will then come out, once a day, always at 7pm with a total of 12 clues or until the thing has been found.

2. The hunt will end when it's been found.

3. The treasure will not be buried underground, hidden in a tree, on a roof, on a steep slope, hidden inside permanent fixtures, or hidden in any other way that would possibly require you to damage something or endanger yourself to find it.

4. The coin will be hidden in a St. Paul park and not on private property.

5. The clues will be posted to The Allison Wonderland Yahoo Club website, will be mailed to the members of The Allison Wonderland Yahoo club (who have valid emails) and will be posted to the Mock Hunt thread at People's Forum. If people would like it posted anywhere else, let me know.

6. When the coin is found, a phone number will be found on the back of it. You should call that number at your first opportunity (at any time of day) and be prepared to tell me where you found it and what it was found in. The winner will get to keep the coin and we'll make arrangements to get them the prize money.

Greetings everyone,

The Mock hunt started today when the first clue was given out at 7pm. It was actually given out at Fabulous Fern's at our pre-hunt part which turned it to be a lot of fun. Unfortunately it kept me from officially posting it online until now as I just got back, but it is only the first clue.

The prize at the moment stands at an even $500 (though I've gotten a couple other pledges I haven't collected on yet so it might get higher), plus $200 off of a car purchased from South City Motors, plus an additional $100 is being put up by the Medallionators if the winner has one of their buttons. So the prize is one that's probably worth going out to look for. All in all thus far I'd like to thank the following contributors:

Snake1988
Jake Inge
Trant Tooley and Jackie Garry of Not Another Hollywood Film
Marley King
Bob & Terry Valentine
My Dalliance
Camo Crew
Chris Digger

The prize consists entirely of their contributions and I'd like to thank them for making this what I hope will be the best Mock hunt so far. And now, on with the clue:

1. The hunt has begun and the shining of the Sun
Hath turned the snows of winter into a big muddy bath
In the parks of St. Paul you’d best be careful as you run
Seeking the treasure that lies off of the beaten path.

I have my cell phone sitting here in my vest pocket. No one has called yet to say they've found it. hehe.

turned the snows of winter into a big muddy bath Could mean the area is where there is no grass so the area is muddy and in a depressed area...or the muddy bath thing could be a hint to a small body of water that is considered muddy. Loeb Lake is one such body of water. It could also refer to the snows of winter melting which then end up in the river.

the treasure that lies off of the beaten path. Is obviously a reference to a walking/running path.

Doesn't it feel good to be noodling again!?!?!?!?!

AW, Me2, Mark, Terry V, Bob, Artemis, Marley, Camo Terry, Chris, Teresa -- it was great fun last night with you all, especially torturing AW with park names. Don't forget: Blair Arcade --> Arcade St (Phalen). Hee hee, lil inside joke there. ;)

Valley rec is evil and you know that allison!Stop trying to get people there.hehehe

Out at Loeb Lake this afternoon,so many nice hiding spots out there, still looks good to me after first clue!

Clue#1
THIS?
Something about Sun being capitalized bugs me!

What is the inside joke about Valley? Clues actually look like they would fit by the "book", but I do not recall what the park actually looks like in reality. Why can I safely scratch this off the list?

AW-Is this strictly St Paul OR Ramsey County?

It's in como near the sun bathers and the running path.
