I don't normaly do this, but I'm going to. We have an annual party here in San Antonio called "FIESTA" -- believe me, it's huge. This year, as one of their events, they are asking people to raise money for the Humane Society...hence "El Rey Fido". If anyone could help by even the smallest donation, I'd appreciate it. If not, I appreciate you anyway!
for those of you with dogs - we just found a new dog park, that is awesome for the ones that like to run, but who might not always like to come back....
its completely fenced in, and about the size of a football field... maybe a little bigger...
its in south saint paul, right near Buggs.... if you take bryant, across the street from the bar, go over the bridge, and follow the road, all the way down to the end.... thats where she be....
its called kaposia village park, or something along those lines....
bring your own water, if you go.... they dont have a fill-up station on site.
I had the unfortunate mishap growing up of one un-found egg..
My older brother had his shot of hiding and to be fair I use to count the eggs to make sure my other brother and I would find the same amount. One year I insisted there was one still missing - but Scott knew better and said we found all of them.
One beautiful 4th of July weekend I ran to my room and grabbed my white sun hat off its stand and plop - down came the egg and split open.
My hat had a nice purple and orange stain where the egg had rested for 4 months and my room had the foulest smell for weeks!!!
Scott, all he could say was "wow, I guess you were right, there was one more egg"
My grandma used to play mind tricks on us, on easter too...
she always kept a list, of where all the eggs were hidden, and she was the only one who knew the list.... me and all of my cousins had to show her, when we found an egg, and tell her EXACTLY where it was hidden, so she could check it off the list....
and she would pull stuff like "you found it under a recliner, in the living room?..... was it mine or grandpas?".... making you think there was something hidden, under the other one - which there never was....
So I want to plan a few low cost activities with the girls this summer so they don't get lost in the shuffle of everything thats going on. I was thinking Fort Snelling, do they still do the reinactment stuffs? I remember loving going there when I was a kid but I don't remember just how old I was. Is 9 and 8 appropriate for something like this?
it may actually be cheaper to get a mnhs membership. its 75 bucks a year, and you get admission to all of mnhs's historic sites: alexander ramsey, jj hill, fort snelling, the history center, mill city museum, etc. oh and its considered a charitable deduction on your taxes, which admission isn't. considering adult admission to the fort is 10 bucks, and kids are 5, it may be worth it.
My parents got a membership and thought it was well worth the price. Mill City Museum is supposedly pretty cool.
What kind of activities do you think they would enjoy, I know of a few other low cost ideas... but wouldn't just list them out if it's something they wouldn't find interesting or fun.
I'm kinda curious if anyone has seen the new Polar Bear exhibit at Como Park Zoo yet. Como Zoo can be fun if you haven't been there in a long time - but since it is free, expect thousands of freeloaders on a good weather weekend.
We LOVE going to Como and the best part is ITS FREE!!! I'm trying to come up with new things that they haven't done before. Elizabeth's class took a field trip to the history museum like a month ago and she LOVED it, so I might look into what you suggested Ares with the mnhs. I just hate that everything is so darned expensive now days....shoot I was looking at Underwater World and it's ridiculously expensive I think for what you get...
I don't take the time to post here near often enough, but HAD to put in my 2 cents...
First, I'm SO sorry that you're having to go through this with Mike :frown:
Second, wanted to share too about cheap thrills....we did a MNHS family membership a few years back, actually for a couple years and it was really a good thing. If you think about how you might be able to use it over the next 12 months, places like Split Rock Lighthouse, and the Fur Post in Pine City... *free*. Not to mention the local stuff like the State Capitol, James J. Hill house, and the History Center. When we had more time to actually GO to these places, it was great.
If the membership seems to steep right away, check into the library!! They have the Museum Adventure Pass (I think it's called), where you can "check out" 2 free passes to many museums, etc. - And places that wouldn't even be included with the History Center membership -- The Bakken, The Swedish Institute, The MN transportation Museum....I'll see if I can find a link for it - but it's at all the local libraries - if you have a Dakota County library card, you can use that at St. Paul libraries - and vice versa. It used to be good for 4 admissions, which would be even better, but if you did the 2 free ones for you and your oldest, you'd only be left with paying for the younger child.
Also - are you still in Eagan area? I know that in St. Paul, the parks & rec do lots of things like "movies in the park" - not sure how that would go with your work schedule, but something to think about anyway.
The library too also has a bunch of free activities....
OK - that's about all my fuzzy brain can come up with at this hour. Have to be up super early to get Emily to Edina for a softball tournament by 7:15, so it's way beyond pumpkin hour!
Thanks mom!! I've seen/heard about the Library and Museum thing but never had the need to check it out until now. I am currently in Dak County but with moving I'm not sure exactly where I'm going to end up. I'm having a hard time finding Apartments outside of my immediate area (where they are all fairly spendy or completely trashy) I don't know which areas to avoid and which areas are good in other cities. Plus I'm super stressed because if we move out of this area to a new school I have to start all over again with Amy's special needs and getting her the specialists she needs during school and UGH THIS SUCKS!! OK this is turing into a vent...I'm going to go take my frustration out on my keyboard and keep searching break time's over.... LOVE YOU ALL!!
If you are so inclined, please go to the link below and vote for the North American Bear Center. They are in fourth place and would like to at least retain that standing.
It's the last day of voting...ends tonight at 11:59pm EST

If the link above does not work, go to the Facebook page for Lily the Black Bear and follow the links there.
If you are not already following Lily and her cub Hope, you may want to - it has been a very exciting and educational adventure to watch Hope since she was born (January) and through the saga of her mother Lily being run off, Hope almost not surviving, but now thriving thanks to the efforts of the NABC and it's over 100,000 fans and supporters!
Done. I think. It was kinda confusing to know if I actually voted or not. I must have since it said I could now post comments and you could only do that if you voted. Hope they do well
Oh oh oh I totally want to go to this. Thats my all time favorite movie!! I know things are crazy for you guys right now but when the time comes will you remind me of this if you still end up going?

Just thought the animal lovers on here might want to know about it as another resource.

Me: "you must not be looking very well because I have seen all 4 of them"
Kids: "please wont you give us a hint"
Me: "OK... All the eggs are in a place you haven't looked yet"
They both looked at me confused and continued to search.

I have never hidden real eggs since.

thats Rey Mysterio on the left, and Balls Mahoney on the right.
eventually.
they are sooo sweet, til you read their rough tough names! heh! nice!
one of my cousins took one, and he's been named "Vince", as in Vince McMahon....
and our friend Angela took the other one....
they broke the wrestler name rule, and named it "princess".
sigh.
they were originally gonna name it Cena....
so I dunno which is worse....
