I hope you find just what you need with the holistic alternatives. That is my primary mode of healthcare and it keeps me pretty healthy.
I think western medicine is *sometimes* good for getting a diagnosis - IF you can get in and get someone to truly listen.
But for treatment, often all they know is drugs and surgery. And drugs are good when they are warranted. But so often there is something simpler, cheaper and safer to try first - too bad we don't have a truly integrated system where we see ONE person and they are knowledgeable enough that they can offer information about alternatives as well as drugs or surgery.
I am thinking seriously about going to school to be a homeopathic practitioner, once I get moved back to Minnesota.
Good luck to you and your son in finding the help you need! I hope he is feeling better soon.
I'm not sure if its a pollen thing or what - I've had "dry" congestion on one side of my head for about three weeks now. No fever or cold, just constant congestion. This week I've been moving around computer workstations at work, and I've been blowing out the dust, etc... which didn't help the situation.
I think I figured it out - my home Furnace / AC filter should've been replaced two months ago. Changed it out tonight - hopefully that will help clear the air. My "Honey Do" list has "get vent system cleaned" added to it now.
Does Cluey's place use forced air for the AC? A dirty filter can cause all kinds of health problems - and it sounds like a lot of his symptoms are breathing-related. I've heard of whole families getting sick in a house, only to find mold growing in the ventilation system.
Aren't we supposed to get vents cleaned like once every two years or something like that? I thought I read that if you own pets, you're supposed to get them cleaned once a year. Anyone have a link about that?
Plugged ears could be one of two problems. One is congestion in the eustacian tube (internally) and the second is an ear wax plug.
The eustacian tube thing usually occurs with nasal congestion and can sometimes be helped with decongestants. It can take sometime to clear though and sometimes this is an indication of infection.
The ear wax plug can be blown out by a doctor in a painless procedure that takes about a minute. One can also try that on their own using drops made for softening ear wax and an ear washing thing that will deliver a good stream of water into the ear canal and will help remove the softened wax. Doing this yourself can take several attempts depending on the amount of wax. It's quicker to see a doctor as it takes such a short time.
I have dealt with both types of plugged ears most of my life. It is irritating to say the least.
When I had my vertigo tested, I was given the "NO Q TIPS IN THE EARS" Speech, even though I haven't done anything like that.
The Ear Nose & Throat Doc basically said that ear wax is your natural moisturizer AND padding to protect your ears from extremes. It should NEVER be removed by a swab - even the softest swab will scrape the tender tissue, leaving a dry and "itchy" feeling. The natural reaction is to grab another swab and "scratch" the inside of your ear, thus making things worse. If you gotta clean it, you gotta flush it with liquid.
My ear ended up being plugged for about 7 hrs. It wasn't ear wax. It was the internal thing. I was afraid to try to pop my ears because of vertigo. I'm still stuffed up with a bad sore throat. Wish it would go away!!! Had it since monday when I woke up shivering uncontrollably. Head ache sucks too. :frown: Why the heck did I get a cold in July/August?
Ever tried sniffing steam under a towel? Does wonders for me. Seems kinda stupid to do it on a 90 degree day, but you'll feel a lot better after five minutes above a bowl of boiling water. You gotta completely close off the "tent" so that you're only sucking in the steamy air directly around the bowl. That is, until you start losing oxygen...
I am going to try to "vent" as positively as I can:
Even though I don't know where I will be or what I will be doing next month, I am trying to remember all that I have accomplished here, that my house and camp ARE on the market now, that there have been showings and interested parties for camp, and that I still have time to find a job before things get really tight.
I am trying to find a consulting project to fill the gaps right now until my fall project kicks in.
Of course there is a possibility that the fall project will get pushed back again, so any project I take will take priority over that, anyway.
I am also putting my resume out for consulting and/or permanent employment.
I am keeping my mindset open at this point - perhaps I will end up here for another winter, so might need to have a job here. Or I might get a job in the cities and have to close up the house, or rent it out.
I feel like my brain is trying to work on about ten different things today. Calls to realtors, resumes, cover letters, applications, online postings.
A little overwhelmed.
But, in perspective, in comparison, my problems are small and manageable and perhaps even somewhat predictable. I just hope I'm not kidding myself about this!
I sure liked reading that Cluey is looking better with each visit, Ares.
After finally catching the bunny that likes to live and eat in my front garden, turning on the sprinkler to find another bunny took its place. Now I know how elmer fudd feels!
Are you spray painting them fluorescent colors? Then you'll know if they are returning - besides, it gives the birds of prey an easier target...
Working at an office supply place, I've gotten really picky about what pens I like.
I'm still pretty set on Pilot G-2s in the .07mm. Though once in a while I find another style gel pen that suits me ok. Then the Uniball Vision Elite for a fancier pen, in the blue black ink, looks and writes nice. Only Bics for ballpoint, the rest are just awful..
I used to buy the Uniball Grip 0.7 in blue. There may be more to the name of it, but that is all that is included right on the pen. Now I can only find it in black. I like blue for personal writing. I will have to look for that blue black you mentioned.
Black Uni-Ball Fine Point. Buy them by the dozen. They don't have an outstanding long life or anything, but I've had three of them go through the washing machine AND dryer without leaking. Good enough in my book.
my laptop fell from a chair at the hospital this morning and slightly bumped the floor ..... had the IT guys look at it here at work .... hard drive is screwed.... I need to find someone that can recover all my photos. Anyone? ideas? I don't have the mindset right now to do it myself with a disc. Clueys ultrasound video is on there.
It won't be this weekend anyway since I'll be at the hospital. just wish I had it for up there. It was nice for cm to read up in the Cooler at night. :frown:
Being told that my nurse practitioner that I normally see doesn't have any appointments until the week of the 18th. Ummm hello...I'm in pain and I'm not waiting until next week (which I might add wouldn't work since I'm leaving out of town on Friday) The reason I started seeing the NP was so I didn't have to see a doctor for all the little things I could just see her...and now I can't even get in to see her without waiting a week. I HURT and Advil isn't working...:frown: I did get in with a doctor I've never heard of tomorrow evening...
Well they took e-rays of the hip and it doesn't look like anything with the bone so he thinks it's a pulled or strained muscle that I keep managing to reinjure some how. He said take Aleve twice a day and do physical therapy. I was hoping for something more definitive but I guess we'll give it a try. Took 20 minutes for the Dr. to come in after the nurse dropped me off, then he did spend some time with me then off to the X-Ray then I had to sit for another 20 minutes waiting for him to come back to me to tell me to take Aleve. While I have waited much longer before to see the dr, it just seemed like such a waste of time and money. Because I'm no better off than I was before (I've been thinking its probably muscular but with it coming and going with increasing frequency I wanted to rule anything else out).

I can take a look at it. Though I don't have a portable hard drive to transfer data onto yet. Looking to get one though anyway.
