Yesterday evening we flew back from Phoenix on Sun Country - I'm a nervous flyer. We were the last flight of the night to Minneapolis.
I called some friends in town as we were boarding at Sky Harbor to tell them the flight was on time and they can pick us up at Humphrey. The last thing he tells me as I go through the gate is "Well they filed for bankruptcy, so hopefully they have enough gas to get you home." :ooh: eek!
Subject: Improving Your Online Experience Through Congestion Management
Dear Comcast High-Speed Internet Customer:
Comcast is committed to providing you with the best online experience possible.
One of the ways we do that is by managing the leading fiber optic network in the nation to ensure it is fast, safe and reliable. As part of our ongoing efforts to continuously improve the quality of our service, we are switching to a new network congestion management technique by the end of the year. It is focused on managing network congestion only when and where it may occur. It will also replace the current technique and will help ensure that all of our customers receive their fair share of network resources.
What does this mean for you? Probably nothing. We ran five market trials of this technique over the summer and found that less than one percent of customers were affected. So, the vast majority of customers will not notice any change to their Internet experience as a result of this new technique. During the times of busiest network use (which could occur at any hour, depending on your neighborhood), those very few extraordinarily heavy users – who are doing things like conducting multiple and continuous large file transfers – may experience slightly longer response times for some online activities until the period of network congestion ends.
As we transition to this new technique, we have amended our Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") and posted it on the Comcast.net Web site. For links to the amended AUP, as well as answers to Frequently Asked Questions and more information about this new technique or our network management efforts in general, please visit our Network Management Policy page at: www.comcast.net/networkmanagement.
Thank you again for choosing Comcast as your high-speed Internet provider.
So much for high speed. I guess we can all join the slowskis.
Comcast reserves the right to suspend or terminate Service accounts where bandwidth consumption is not characteristic of a typical residential user of the Service as determined by the company in its sole discretion. Comcast has established a monthly bandwidth consumption threshold per Comcast High-Speed Internet account of 250 Gigabytes (“GB”). Use of the Service in excess of 250GB per month is excessive use and is a violation of the Policy
I'll have to agree though, some people do use a lot of bandwidth.
Typically people using file sharing applications, tranferring large, probably copyright infringement, files.
However, these days, there's a lot more free data flowing around the internet. Thanks mostly to broadband connections being more readily available. Something has to give eventually I suppose. I do tend to laugh when ISPs like Comcast or Qwest tout high Mbps numbers. It doesn't really matter how fast your connection is at a certain point, it depends on the server or pc you're pulling a file from.
Might be time to read up again on Net Neutrality though...
Waiting for the bank to acccepted our offer!! Seller accected but we have come to find out the said property is in "short sale" and are now waiting on the banks acceptance....grrrr
Can I vote now to make them go away? => THAT's an election that will end in a landslide victory!
In as much political talk has been dedicated to the environment, there's been a helluva lot more pollution spread around - both in garbage campaign broadcasting and in actual litter from all the garbage on a stick in people's yards and street corners. How many million cubic yards of crap hit the dumpsters on Nov. 5th?
We have had two very very windy days here, like cold, gusty, whippy wind. My allergies are on overdrive, but worse yet - my short hair is constantly in my face, and even pulling it back doesn't seem to work. I constantly pulling strands out of my lipgloss.
What happen to the good old days where you would sleep in line the night before tickets when on sale and had a really good chance for good seats...
Logged in for AC/DC tix within 30 seconds of them on sale - was put into the "search cue" for 25 mins!!! Got tickets on upper level - but seriously... 25 minutes? :frown:
Birthday parties (ok for at least this month anyways) We have 3 birthday parties in 5 weeks to go to. And OF COURSE they are on opposite weekends as my class for school. So 5 weeks of not being able to go out of town or do much of anything on the weekends :crying:
Movie prices!! Holy $h!t!! Took the girls to a movie tonight since we haven't been in at least 6 months or more. Nearly $22 to get in 2 kids and an adult for MATINEE PRICES! and another $17 for pop corn and drinks for us. I've decided I can wait until movies come out on DVD from now on. I thought maybe $30 tops when I decided to go. $40 just for 95 minutes of entertainment...yeah ummmm not worth it to me anymore. I could have taken them to the waterpark for a couple dollars more tomorrow for all day!
Well cripes I live on the wrong side of town! I feel so old because I almost used the I remember when line like my dad use to do. But when I grew up it was $3 for a movie and probably like $1.50 for the popcorn. I mean really how much does it REALLY cost for popcorn anyways?
There used to be a lot of "2nd Run" theatres that would show movies that were six months old and older - usually they were cheap - like $1.50 a seat - I dunno any that are still around anymore.
This Woodbury theater is an independent - not part of a chain - I wish and hope more people would go there just to keep an "indie" still alive in the Twin Cities. They do decent business on Friday nights, but the rest of the week is pretty quiet.
A quick comparison - Carmike Oakdale Stadium 20 -about 3 miles away -
Can buy tickets on the internet with Fandango, has Stadium seating -
$9 for evening, $6.75 Matinee, $6 kids under 12
(I think the last time I was there small popcorn was $3.50, Soda $3.25)
Marcus Ultra Cinema Oakdale - by Fleet Farm
$9 evening, $6.25 kids n seniors, everybody's $6 matinee - extra charges for 3-D and the shows in the UltraScreen (I think its +$1 or more)
I'd rather spend the 8 bucks at AMC or something....
I've got beef with the guy that owns that place, going back a buncha years....
you'd be amazed at how he became the owner of that place.... not good stuff...
I'll dish out a buck once in a while at The Plaza.... but other than that, i wont frequent his theatres.... he also owns that Brookdale discount theatre too...
Guess what I got for my birthday - a huge freakin' overdraft fee from TCF!
I have three accounts at TCF - Checking, Savings and an additional Checking account we use only for our mortgage payments. We started the mortgage account last May to use if for e-payments for the mortgage and nothing else. This account is in BOTH of our names. When we started the account, we were given a gold check card and a checkbook for transactions - the book went into safety deposit and the card was torn up - this was going to be online e-payments ONLY.
Last month "Here's your new TCF Check Card" came in the mail - addressed only to me. I tossed my old beat up ATM card and started using the new one.
Unbeknowst to me, this new card was only tied into the MORTGAGE account! Apparently the first gold ATM card (that we tore up) was strictly for my wife, and this was a duplicate for ME to use. By some miracle the October mortgage cleared, but I had a month's worth of purchases/withdrawals that should've been coming out of the OTHER two accounts. BTW: Apparently when you use a TCF ATM with only ONE account on it and withdraw from "savings" it pulls money from the "checking" side as well. Didn't take too long to drain it.
From my records I dug out the sheet of paper that this card was attached to when it came in the mail - in small print it says for Checking Account ending in #XXXXXXXXXXXXX5755 or something like that. That's the ONLY place to reconcile what account it came from. This card is also for a JOINT account, but the sheet only had MY name on it - the same as my ordinary TCF Checking.
The attendant on the phone said that card should've been issued in May, but wasn't activated until September - BECAUSE I DIDN'T GET IT UNTIL THEN! After 45 minutes of pissing and moaning on the phone, I got a manager to negate half of the $200+ overdraft charges. That was the "best" they could do.
The last straw: all my printed bank statements say $34 fee for insufficient funds. All of the new charges were listed at $35 each - apparently it changed as of October 7th and they started charging me on the 9th.
Twenty years I've used these guys for banking because I've always lived near a TCF or Cub Foods. The hell with that. By Christmas anything I have with TCF on it will be in a box marked "Burn in 2010".
My apologies to anyone in here that may work for them.
I had an issue with TCF a while back that left a bad taste in my mouth. I racked up $450 in those stupid $33 fee's. While it was my fault the whole thing peeved me. I completely forgot to take a $150 check to the bank (in my mind I thought I had with some other checks, long story). They continued to allow me to use my debit card well after I passed the $0 balance mark. So I went negative without knowing it fee's were being assessed a whole week went by with me writting a bunch smallish checks and using my debit card. I went to the bank with my next weeks check which just happened to cover the previous weeks fee's and not much more and started writing checks again and I got the overdraft in the mail 5 days after stuff started going into the negative. So for a day or two after depositing my check I still used my account not realizing that I was going back negative again. It was a nightmare! I just couldn't believe they didn't shut off my debit card to tip me off. It isn't a credit card with a line of credit if there isn't any cash in the account it(the card) should never work. And it shouldn't take them 5 days to notify me that there is a problem with my account. Blockbuster is sending me a recorded message the day after I'm late with a return for pity's sake why can't they send me a recorded message that just says there's a problem with your account please call us.
thats what Wells Fargo does... as soon as they've seen a problem with my account, in the past, they've called a.s.a.p.
however... I like Kitch's idea, about going in at a busy time, and making a big deal....
im not of fan of dealing with crap like this.... BUT.... I am a fan of yelling at people, who work at places, and piss me off.... especially if it causes a scene, and gets me escorted out of the building....
I get a half hour for lunch and work 34 miles away from the nearest TCF in Wisconsin.
Believe me, the phone operators last night got an earful - and I think they were actually American!
I had an old college buddy that worked for TCF for years - the running joke is - as long as you have a pulse - you can have a TCF checking account. They would give a checking account to your dog if you wanted to. I've been procrastinating the big TCF dump for years. They make money by giving accounts to anyone and everyone and then charge fees for anything and everything. It's time to move on. We've got accounts elsewhere - its just my TCF checking has been around since I was 16 years old.
Where's my freakin' free toolbox? Or rechargeable cranking flashlight? Or portable TV that won't work after February next year? Geez - that's one thing I will NEVER miss - all that junk crap they'd give away for a new account.
Call em back...I have gotten TONS of fees reversed. Tell them the story and they will help you out. Sometimes all of them sometimes half. But it is worth it. You don't even have to go in you can do it all over the phone!!
My back, chest and neck are filled with pain today. Maybe it's the weather? Sucks :frown:

Then they go to pay per use internet.
Then they don't charge you to go to their sites.
Then net neutrality is destroyed.

$4 for matinee, $6 for evening, $1.50 each for popcorn and soda
The only thing cheaper is smuggling them in the trunk to the drive-in and bringing you own popcorn
