2012 - Tony Schmidt Park

Submitted by ares on
2012 Clues

So its back to the drawing board for next year
to find a spot so deep and drear.
Harder to reach all you whiners
than those buried Chilean miners.

Next year's clues will inspire dread
requiring knowledge of languages dead,
Higher math rocket science
disbanding every hunters alliance.

I take your leave. I bid adieu.
I go in search of the perfect clue.
Prepare to hike hard dig deep and delve.
Will have a grand party in 2012.

Hey folks--thought I'd better introduce myself rather than creepily reading everyone's noodles over their shoulders. Year 3 at this--excited for another. Good luck out there!

Awesome Tony! Good for you. I looked in Mears park today when I was passing through. Even peeked under a mailbox.

May I ask what they look like?

Here I was all ready to say hello for the year and my membership had expired, so a little while later than I had intended...

HI!!

Once again I didn't make it to the party, one of these years I won't be stuck at work...

Skari, great to meet you face-to-face this evening.

Hi to those just getting here. Izzy - hope you get to the pre-dig gig one of these years.

Good luck all in the hunt.

Hey Terry,

It was awesome to meet you too! It was fun to meet many of the CC at the PDG.

You guys and gals are a good group.

I can't wait till the Rehash bash. I hear I have something to look forward to - being a newbie.

Is that what they told you Skari?

We are a good group. We understand medallion fever. While some others may think we're a bit loony, we understand each other's obsession with things hidden in the snow.

I best get to bed sooon. No sense being sleep deprived this early in the hunt.

It is nice to be with fellow loonies. The great part is, that unlike the voices in my head, you all WANT to talk about the hunt!

Good night All....cu in THE park.

I'm looney , came home from work and the first thing i had to do was check in on the board! Wish I could of gone to the pre dig gig, but the trade off is I don't have to work this next coming Fri Sat or Sun.I only have to work through the first 3 clues.

Has there been any decision reached on where to hang out in the evenings pre-clue? Since the scrambled clue is available on-line at 10:30 and the straight clue is available on-line at 11:30, it doesn't really make sense to go to Gabe's just to get the paper at the same time...

I would like to have people to talk to about it though, so if you guys are planning on a particular hang-out, let me know!

The first clue talks about around (circular glasses) and realm (wizarding) and makes me think of Harry Potter. I think it is referring to the three Treasure Hunt Hallows that we have to find. The first item is the Elder Digging Tool. This one tool can be used to hunt no matter if it is wet snow deep snow, no snow, thick ice, or anything else. It can sort and sift magically through anything to find small objects. The second item is the Vulcans Stone. The holder of this will remain warm no matter how bitterly cold outside it is, allowing them to search all day without getting cold. The third item is the Maraudimg Hunters Map. This map not only shows all the important details of the parks in Ramsey County, but also who is in them. This allows the holder to know the age old question of Where's Jake?

Legend has it that if one person were to possess all three, they would be master over the Winter Carnival Treasure Hunt. That is until the brother and sister looked online where everyone else was searching, went out to the park and found it five minutes later....

Thanks, brasscat!

Statistically, your choice of weekends to work was a good one.

Other than over excitement for the hunt finally getting here, not too much happens until clue 4 or so, IMO....unless, you are jake.

We were talking last night about going to The Liffey tonight, but nothing was really finalized. I'd be up for Yarussos too if someone wants to cal them and see if they'll stay open late.

Wasn't able to really read through stuff and noodle until now but I noticed they used "within OUR realm" - could be a hint at meaning PP's rule of Ramsey county meaning outside of SP city limits. They usually would use the phrase Boreas' realm, king's realm, or His realm indicating SP.

For what it's worth, in the past 24 hours, we've been to Crosby, Hidden Falls, Cherokee, Swede Hollow, Vento Trail and Lilydale, but Highland had the most foot traffic searching that we saw.

Also if we assume Pi is supposed to mean 3.14. Using my map and scale it looks like the eastern most tip of Crosby is just over 3 miles from downtown SP.

Reggie and Christa found a couple at Cherokee today. I went down Lexington and hit Snail Lake, Joesphine, Central, and Como before meeting up with them at Linwood. Then we went to Mattocks, Merriam, IM, and Phalen. No luck anywhere besides Cherokee. Also, new Daddy ran into someone at Highland yesterday who found a handful.

Yes, I just haven't been good about checking into the FB discussion there. I have the same profile pic up there for the duration of the med hunt as on here.

I think Gabe's makes sense if just to see how the whole paper sale thing is going to work with clue release timing... I don't get why the PPress would do it this way-- it has to hurt their sales.

I like Gabes for tonight, but would really like to do Yarusso's tomorrow night for their lasagna special. Also, if anyone is going to be around Como tomorrow afternoon, I was thinking of looking for some Pirate Medallions and would love some company. I can get back from work by 3:30.
