The next part of this is long...but it is an update about David I received this morning.

Melvin - please forward this to everyone.

David has astonished them all with his vital signs and health.

Unfortunately, right now he has developed pneumonia. This often happens in this type of case. They are fighting it with antibiotics and hope to have it under control soon. I believe with all our prayers, that this will be immediate.

The Dr informed me that the first week is usually pneumonia, the second week pulmonary problems. So, we know what we are dealing with and can pray about.

Let me tell you all - they have never had a case so severe as this in a patient that survived and all of you have kept him alive a week now. That is more than they have ever seen and they are astonished.

We all know the power of prayer. Some of them may, but I don't think they're ever experienced this much prayer before. God loves my son even more than I do and I will abide by His will, but I believe He has great things for David to do, just as He did Paul.

It is tough for me to watch and tonight I had to leave earlier than usual because I couldn't stop the tears and that's not what I want David to see. The Lord is making me strong, but sometimes, it's overwhelming.

Thank you all so much for your prayers. Please keep praying. Your prayers are what is saving him. Thank you and God Bless.

Mary, David's Mom

Oct. 28th, Latest update = please pass on.

Not as good as yesterday but nothing they didn't expect. David has an infection so they had to remove all the dressings from what they have done so far and inspect them. They look fine.

They were unable to do the back or face, although they did get quite a bit of the dead skin off the face and he looks better.

They did graft the burns on the front of his thighs with his own skin, they still have to do the backs. They also grafted his skin onto his clavicles and that is good.

They had to remove his feeding tube because his stomach is rejecting it and they will have to feed him through his veins. Not the best choice, but the only one they have right now.

His urine is darker than they would like and they will be running tests tonight. Could be he needs more fluids and they have increased his intake. Could be the kidneys. Could be the liver.

These are things that happen to people with this massive type of burns.

I will know more tomorrow and will let you know. As always, I am exhausted. Came home early, am going to eat and actually watch a little tv and then I am going to bed to start the whole thing over tomorrow.

Keep those prayers coming. Thank you.

Oct. 29th, To all of you who are keeping David in your prayers, thank you very much. I know these prayers are what is keeping him going.

One of the difficult things, since David still has not regained conciousness, is trying to find new things to say to him. I have been reading to him and I know he hears my voice because his blood pressure raises when I talk to him - this is a good thing as they want his bp up.

I am going to start reading him your emails so he can see how many people care about him and are praying for him. David will have a difficult time when he does recover (I will not say if), because his face was badly burned along with his upper torso, arms and hands. I believe he will need these messages to comfort him as he was a very attractive man and, to be blunt, he now looks like a monster. Even as his mother, it is difficult to look at him. I have to constantly remind myself that this is my beloved son, whom I cherish and love. And, the feeling passes and I am able to look at him with all the love that is within me.

They will be doing plastic surgery on his face when he is fully recovered, but until that time, he will have to live with what he looks like.

He is not a vain person, in fact, he told me he wished he wasn't so 'pretty' because people looked on the outside and not the inside. Yet, it will be a shock when he finally wakes up and sees what he looks like.

This is where all your prayers and well wishes will come in. He will be able to read them and know that there are people who care, that beauty truly is skin deep.

Thank you all for helping to make him well. Thank you for your prayers, your love and your concern.

Hey Kitch, Can you see what the top 5 over-range microwaves are for under $300?

We had our last one for less than a year and the damn thing crapped out.  We even took it apart and checked all the breakers and fuses with no luck. Must be the board.  Damn Ewave!  You get what you pay for I guess.

CM - funny you should mention over range microwaves.   We're up north for the weekend and there is one of those that came with the house.  It is a GE and, if not installed when the house was built - 1984 - it must have been in shortly afterward.  I figure back then microwaves of any kind ran around $500 or more.  I know we paid big money for our first one.  The over range ones were even more.

That first one is probably still running.  We gave it away to someone when we bought our very much cheaper and smaller machine.  It was a counter sitter and when I figured I could use the counter space we switched.  Thankfully, that one is still going strong.

Buying advice

Microwave ovens

You'll see larger capacity, more power, sensors that detect doneness, and stylish designs. You can get a countertop model for less than $40.

Microwave ovens, which built their reputation on speed, are also showing some smarts. Many automatically shut off when a sensor determines that the food is cooked or sufficiently heated. The sensor is also used to automate an array of cooking chores, with buttons labeled for frozen entrées, baked potatoes, popcorn, beverages, and other common items. Design touches include softer edges for less boxy styling, hidden controls for a sleeker look, stainless steel, and, for a few, a translucent finish.

WHAT’S AVAILABLE

GE leads the countertop microwave-oven market with almost 25 percent of sales, followed by Sharp, Panasonic, Emerson, and Kenmore. GE sells the most over-the-range models.

Microwaves come in a variety of sizes, from compact to large. Most sit on the countertop, but a growing number sold--about 25 percent--mount over the range. Several brands offer speed-cooking via halogen bulbs or convection. Speed-cook models promise grilling and browning, though results can vary significantly depending on the food. Manufacturers are working to boost capacity without taking up more space by moving controls to the door and using recessed turntables and smaller electronic components. Be warned: To gauge capacity, manufacturers tend to tally every cubic inch, including corner spaces, where food on the turntable can't rotate. In fact, the diameter of the turntable is a more realistic measurement, and we base our calculation of usable capacity on that dimension.

Microwave ovens vary in the power of the magnetron, which generates the microwaves. Midsized and large ovens are rated at 900 to 1,350 watts, compact ovens at 600 to 800 watts. A higher wattage may heat food more quickly, but differences of 100 watts are probably inconsequential. Some microwave ovens have a convection feature--a fan and, often, a heating element--that lets you roast and bake, something you don't generally do in a regular microwave.

Price range: $40 to $200 (countertop models); $300 to $500 (over-the-range); $350 to $700 (convection or halogen-bulb countertop or over-the-range).

HOW TO CHOOSE

Performance differences. Most microwave ovens are easy to use and competent at their main tasks of heating and defrosting. Nearly all the ones we've tested heated a baking dish full of cold mashed potatoes to a fairly uniform temperature. We found a few ovens that left large icy chunks while defrosting ground beef, however. Be skeptical about special technologies claimed to improve cooking evenness.

Recommendations.A large or midsized countertop model is a good choice. Compact models, though less expensive, typically have lower power ratings and don't heat as fast. Your kitchen layout may dictate an over-the-range microwave, but these models cost about twice as much as large countertop models, are heavy, and may take two people--or sometimes even an electrician--to install.

Terry... please keep the updates coming.... and we will keep sending our prayers. When he is out of the ICU is there any way that people can donate some time to sit with him and read aloud or give his poor mother some kind of a break so she can recharge a little? I would be very interested in any opportunity to help.

For all who have been praying for David and his family....

Hey Terry,

Blessings to you and Peaceful Prayer Warriors. I am a few days behind on sending the hundreds of e-mails to Mary, however, I am sending all of yours to her right now. My heart has grown so much from the messages and support people are sending Mary and David. Thank you, Peace is prevailing on earth. God bless you all.

Peaceful Thoughts,

TC - This is from David's Mom.

Wow - Terry, what a wonderful thought.  Right now,
since he is in intesive care at the Burn Unit, no one
can visit him except his immediate family.  But... how
wonderful it would be if, once he was able to
communicate (I refuse to say if) that the people who
prayed for him could meet him and read, and spend time
with him.

That would be powerful healing.

I don't know what that timing would be.  Right now I
am so sad because I have a bad cough/sore throat and
can't even see him because I could cause him to have
an infection, and he already is fighting that.  This
is the toughest thing I have ever gone through.

This is an update from David's Mom...

Dear Peacemakers, Thank you! Peace and blessings to you all. May Peace Prevail On Earth!

Peaceful Thoughts, Melvin Subject: David

Is holding his own. Vitals still good. He is scheduled for surgery tomorrow morning for his back. They want to get his face down, but then they realized it would be more painful for him to have him on his face when they did his back, as opposed to doing his back because he is laying on an air-bed type of bed to lesson his pain.

Unfortunately, I think I am allergic to the decaying skin and, even though they switched my allergy meds Thursday and put me on an antibiotic - just to be sure - after I visit Dave, I cough, and cough and cough. Of course I am wearing a face mask when I see him but...what a tough one - allergic to my own son! But, it's the decaying flesh, not him. Not sure how I am going to counter attack this one.

I stayed home yesterday with the cough but they pretty much asked me to come today because David does so much better after he's seen me. I will talk to his Dr tomorrow about it, but my main hope is that these new allergy meds kick in and this coughing quits. I cannot, not see him. Especially when I know my love is helping him.

Please pray about this too. Thank you.

I am starting a 'scrapbook' for him of the emails that come in for and about him. So, go ahead and give people me email address and I will read them to him as they come in and he will have them when he wakes up and is able to look at them.

Thanks, you guys, for sending prayer requests and for being there.

Part 2

David had successful surgery on his back today and his vitals are still very good. The infection is still there and that is a reality of burn patients.

The nurse kinda got on me today because I wasn't there, and I am always there, but, by my voice and my anguish, she understood that I myself am sick and do not want to give my germs to my son. My sister stepped inas a 'surrogate mom' until I can again be by his side. This is so tough for me. To not be able to be there because my body has developed this cough and illness in me.

I hate this. But, I know your prayers are working and I will soon be well and able to be with David again. Just keep those prayers coming because, he is surviving against all odds and I know it is your prayers that are doing it,

Have you heard of a site called Caringbridge.org?  It's set up so people can post updates on someone and also has a guestbook that people write on.  I've had several friend who have used this and currently am active in one concerning a young woman, who goes on our family vacation every year, who is now fighting cancer.   It's a great site to keep people informed and also for people to give encouragement.

I wish all the best for David and his mother.  It's a terrible thing they are going through.

Ok- Birthday's over- (thank you to all the b'day wishes...err- witches..)
election's over...
Let us move on to the important thinggs in life! The 2005 Winter Carnival!
I had a grandiose birthday- my boys gave me the arcade game of Ms. Pac Man that you can plug into your tv!!!!! My wrists are sore, cuz the joystick is not like the real REAL game. Heheh.
ESD- I was backslogging, and came upon a post of yours that said "you need a fan to get rid of the wetness"....
There are much simpler ways to change a diaper, but whatever works.... Hee.
Ahreeze- Howze marrieed life?
Sweet, ain't it?
TV, good to hear from you, sorry about the cloud cover for the eclipse.

I sometimes feel as if I should be shot, gutted, scraped of meat, de-haired, chewed upon, stretched out, and nailed to a board and left to dry.
Oh, wait, that's not me- that's the million deer gonna be shot this weekend.
GOD! I hope my husband gets one- otherwise his pee-pee may just fall right off!
Good luck to all you other deer anglers out there!
I'm not against it, I just don't get the hype....

Hi, I have been out working at my aunts sewing shop while she is was out of town: It's A Stitchin Eagan on Highway 13.

On Tuesday, Nov 2nd, at roughly 7:45 pm we had to put our dog, Taiga, to sleep. I have been just sick all week because of it. She would have turned 7 years old yesterday, but she was hardly getting any air and she layed around so listly with no energy. Whitney and Mark took her to the vet and stayed with her til the doctor told them that her heart had stopped. :( :::

That is tech 3 pets this year our family has lost. Mary the hamster and Taiga of cancer. Whitneys grandparents dog, Punky, age 9, who died of Lyme in later August. Punky and Taiga hung out together at the lake.
